BillF and PleaDeal were off last Friday so it has fallen to me to write the weekly report from Walter Reed. I'm not as technically proficient as they are so y'all get a break from the "heavy graphics."
Honor Roll for Week 57: Justanobody; mr. and mrs. trooprally; tgslTakoma; cindy_true_supporter; Albion Wilde; BufordP; Jimmy Valentine's brother; Fraxinus; lurker Bill; mama taco; Danang68 and kristinn.
Our numbers have slacked off over the past few months. I suppose folks don't see the need to come out to Walter Reed on Friday nights now that Code Pink has been moved off the corner at the main gate. It gets rather frustrating to look out at the four corners and see them manned by only one or two Freepers. The way things are going, it won't be long before Code Pink takes that corner back because not enough Freepers care to come out and support our wounded warriors.
I know many were drawn to come out before in response to the outrageousness of an "antiwar" protest at a military hospital. However, those of us who have committed to maintaining our presence there on Friday nights have come to appreciate just how much it means to the soldiers, their families and those who work at Walter Reed to see and hear support from their fellow Americans.
Our nation has been at war for almost five years now. The media, leftists, and the 'Rats are working overtime to undermine the morale of our soldiers and the American people. What we've been doing at the gates of Walter Reed is, in my opinion, an integral part of the battle on the home front. However, there is only so much this diminshing group can accomplish without your help.
Without our presence at Walter Reed, the only thing the soldiers, their families, the workers and the general public would see is Code Pink at the main gate. With our presence, those same people see their fellow Americans supporting their efforts and honoring their sacrifices.
What you missed last Friday by not standing with us: A visit by a father whose Army son lost both his legs in Iraq two weeks before. The man, who is retired Air Force, came out to thank us for being there. He said neither he nor his son had any regrets or doubts about the mission in Iraq. He took pictures of us and our signs, and the MOAB, of course, for his son's scrapbook chronicling his recovery at Walter Reed.
You also missed speaking with two male nurses recently transferred from Fort Sam Houston who came out to thank us for being there.
You also missed the scores of soldiers, families and workers who smiled, waved, honked and hollered in appreciation of our support for them.
You also missed the supportive reaction of passersby. At times the horn honks were a cacophony of patriotism that resounded up and down Georgia Avenue.
In addition to all that, you also missed the smiles and waves from those on the packed Fran O'Brien's bus as they returned from dinner at 10 p.m.
Here's a link to the photos by Mrs. Trooprally from last Friday: Mash here. You can see that Code Pinkos Medea Benjamin and Gael Murphy were there. However, neither of them wanted anything to do with us after the spanking we had given them the day before. They did send a couple useful idiots up to "dialogue with us," but that was all.
We'll be back out at Walter Reed tomorrow night from 6:30 until at least 9:30 at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Elder Street, NW in Washington, D.C.
Code Pink will be there, too. Whether they get to retake their corner this Memorial Day weekend and harass our soldiers is up to you.
You perform a great service...thank you and your cadre.
I want to get back soon and hope to bring friends.
Hold the line, guys/gals!! What ya'll are doing is important!!
I suspect as summer arrives you will have more visitors stop by while vacationing in the DC area.
D.C. Chapter mega ping.
D.C. Chapter mega ping.
In the next few weeks, I am trying to put together something to make it even more fun to be there...hope you are hungry.
Thanks!
sadly, i've "asked off" & was told politely/firmly, "NO."
i'm with you in spirit, if not in body.

That's me doing the open mouth breathing in shot #283 next to the father who came out to thank us for reporting for duty. Our troops are reading the same press we are. Even though in their hearts they're sure the press is lying, the troops are glad they can see us out there every Friday night.
If you can't make the scene tomorrow night, hopefully you find a parade or stand with a flag in memory of those who gave their all.
OUTSTANDING! Looking forward to getting a big ole Texas hug.
I tried to interest BufordP in a game of Duck, Duck, Goose with Code Pink but he wasn't in the mood.
Go figure.
How I wish I could be there!
