LONDON, May 24, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - British pop music star Elton John has attacked the Catholic Church and its position on condom use as a reason for the demise of 60 of his friends to the sexually-transmitted disease, AIDS.
Speaking at a business awards ceremony, he said, "We don't have a medical vaccine but we have a social vaccine and it's called education." He failed to include in his so-called education platform that condoms may be a leading reason for the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Even leading health experts at the United Nations have acknowledged that condoms have an estimated 10% failure rate.
Edward C. Green, a senior research scientist at the Harvard School of Public Health explained in 2003 that the one in ten failure rate of condoms protection from AIDS is "not good enough for a fatal disease." He added, "The way condoms are marketed in Africa and other developing parts of the world is as if they were 100 percent safe."

I suspect the 60 friends of Eltons who died of aids:1)did not use condoms, and 2)had unprotected sex with numerous partners. You play, you pay:(
If you don't want to get a disease that is primarily spread through homosexual sex and drug use, then DON'T HAVE HOMOSEXUAL SEX OR USE DRUGS!
The Bible has been very clear on this for a long time, and so has the Catholic Church.
Haven't you seen the army of Catholic militants standing outside of pharmacies, grocery stores, truck stops and public school health clinics waiting to destroy the incoming cartons of trojans? Haven't you seen the parish members emptying the condom packages and replacing the contents with rosaries? Haven't you seen the effects of the church's campaign to outlaw condom sales to the public? No longer able to buy condoms openly, those who need them are forced to buy on the black market. Sneaking into back alleys to meet with Russian mafia condom kinpins.
How could you have missed this? Oh wait sorry alternate universe for the paranoid is not activated. Never mind.
Guess their own behaviour never enters into the consequences they garner.
Have another cheeseburger and chocolate cake, Reggie.
Elton, get the memo: it's not the Church's fault - it's Bush's fault!
Sheesh!
Denial of personal responsibility. It's always some authority's fault: the Church, President Bush, right-wing neo-cons, etc etc.
You go it, Thombo. Elton's pals probably paid no attention to all of the warnings concerning sex without condoms.
But then, aren't gay folk, in America, largely responsible for the spreading of the disease by partaking in one-night-stand sex with strangers?
Yep the Catholic Church is responsible for the bare-backing in the San Fran and London bath houses.
Nice verse, I'll have to remember that.
Thanks.
Exactly.
TTTOOOO MMMUUUCCCHHHH !
Brought tears to my eyes.
Thanks.
Huh?
"That dudn't make any sense..." (Laura Ingraham soundbite)
We are supposed to believe that gay men will defy the church teachings on sex but follow their teachings on condoms? If they had followed ALL of the Catholic church's teachings they would still be alive today, Elton. So it is YOUR ideas and practices that killed them.
Elton, you poor pathetic fool. Stop trying to rationalize the guilt and responsibility of sin by blaming the Catholic Church. These 60 friends of yours choose self-will in preference to God's Will and are to blame for their own sins.
Umm, ok. So they are NOT listening to the Catholic order to not have gay sex, but ARE listening to the Catholic order to not wear condoms... yeah Elton and you are a lumberjack.
Sheesh.
Oh, yeah, like those fairies listened to the Church.
I was once involved in planning a company function for the families of associates. We sent out no less than 10 messages that you MUSY sign up by "X" date. Two weeks after the cutoff date I got an email from some idiot who didn't sign up and wouldn't I hate it if he had to tell his kids they can't go. I sent him bad a short note and told him it was a fine time to teach them a lesson in personal responsibility. He didn't go.
