WASHINGTON - In the first chapter of what is likely to be a blistering campaign, U.S. Rep. John Murtha's Republican challenger, Diana L. Irey, traveled to Washington yesterday to decry Mr. Murtha as one-time patriot who has "lost his way" after his recent comments about a November incident involving U.S. Marines and civilian killings in the city of Haditha, Iraq.

LOL...he is an entrenched incumbent. What other issue do you think he has, and has done well (hint: the issue all incumbents have...starts with p...ends with K....)
"These inflammatory remarks read around the world not only put Americans lives at risk," she said, "but will also be used as a recruiting tool for terrorist organizations."
A spokeswoman for Mr. Murtha said the congressman would not comment on Ms. Irey's remarks(Unquote)
Murtha won't respond because he knows that she is right and he won't engage her in a debate he knows he would lose. Murtha needs to be flushed out as a fraud, with an expose of his purple heart strategy by which he calls himself a war hero, when in fact he never was seriously woulded, so he had to petition for the awards after he returned home from Vietnam.
The bottom line is this: Diana gave voice to the truth and stuck to the issues without calling Murtha a liar. This is the starting point of a campaign that is based on MANY issues which concern the citizens of the 12th district, all of which will be addressed in due time - it's not just one issue.
You can prognosticate all you want on what may happen, but the bottom line is she has said and done nothing she needs to defend herself against, while Murtha has created quite a collection of sound-bites that prove him to have everything but the welfare of our troops at heart.
And quit projecting by claiming I am engaging in "petty personal attacks". You're the one who made the pointless comment, so defend it or move on.
LOL...one thing about rabid Freepers...god forbid that you present them with any alternate pov, especially at election time. Have fun.
Cambria County Republicans said they will support Irey, but refused to harshly criticize Murtha on issues other than the war.
I cant say anything bad about John Murtha. Hes been a good man for this area, said Bill Weigle, executive director of the countys GOP. This is going to be a really personal choice. Obviously, his stand to withdraw from Iraq is going to sway voters.
Cambria Commissioner Bill Harris agreed.
I have the utmost respect and admiration for John Murtha, Harris said. But competition is good, and I think he welcomes it. We need to give Diana a chance. We need to learn more about her.
-------
Does this sound like a fired up GOP to you? The bottom line is that Murtha brings home the pork, and the locals are well aware of that, and, as you can see from the GOP leaders, they are willing to give the old man a pass on the crazy talk.
I believe Mr. Murtha has been accused of using his postion to throw business to his brother, has he not?

Thank you for admitting Murtha is talking crazy. I was thinking your posts indicated you were in agreement with him, but surely if you think he talks crazy your wouldn't agree with him?!!
As to your questions about Republicans not being fired up...there are conservative Republicans, liberal Republicans, and then there are the RINOS, and unfortunately, we don't always see eye to eye on matters - certainly not with RINOS!
Why can't I find anything on the National Press Club web site about this press conference? Was it REALLY at the National Press Club? Why can't I find a single photo of this event? What gives? Wonder why Murtha went on Allan Colmes' radio show and Diana only went on Laura Ingram?
I can not answer the question regarding Ingram v Colmes. I do believe other interviews are in the works.
Rabid, huh? Apparently God forbid that you present CC with an alternative point of view. You have fun too.
I'm not sure about the RINO quotient out there. They can't be too bad since that area has probably the most conservative Dems in the state. In fact that congressional district held 2 of the 3 Dem incumbents that the electorate sent packing in the primaries.
Thanks for the information. I don't know much about that area of the country, and usually don't get involved in political campaigns in States other than my own. But when you have a candidate whose rhetoric is doing harm to the nation and to the morale of our military, it's time to help defeat that person.
BAM!
Aww...he looks a little disoriented. Is he a senile old rat?
LOL!
