HILL DRIVE FOR '55' ( National Maximum Speed Limit )
New York Post ^ | May 24, 2006 | IAN BISHOP

Posted on 05/24/2006 3:25:12 PM PDT by george76

- In a surprise move yesterday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called for "most of the country" to return to a speed limit of 55 mph in an effort to slash fuel consumption...

"The 55-mile speed limit really does lower gas usage.

And wherever it can be required, and the people will accept it, we ought to do it," Clinton said at the National Press Club.

Hey!! I had one of those - it was red. The first engine that I ever got going again, in shop class, in junior high. Fired up the first pull, even. (Mr. Meins knew how to set points, however) I was the only guy who got an engine running that class. Engine had a splined shaft, so I never managed to get it into a mini-bike or go-kart like I planned.

Well, for ONCE I agree with her. 55 saves lives, especially given the lighter weight of most vehicles. As long as those limits are applied to trucks as well (which have gotten bigger as cars have gotten smaller), I'm all for it!

....Wow....I can't believe that I agree with her on something....I must be coming down with a viral infection.

Apparently, Hillary got their 'friends' to loan the silverware, etc. and not gift the stuff to the White House.

Therefore all that nice stuff never got recorded by the white house staff as owned by the american people.

Then the Clinton's removed all the 'loaned' stuff later.

Not this nonsense again. Some of us remember the 70's. Some of us remember the absurdity of driving across Nevada on the interstate highway (or trying to, anyway) at 55 mph. Maybe 55 through urban areas with heavy traffic is just dandy, but it's absurd to try to make people drive 55 on wide-open interstates where traffic is sparse and distances are long.

One of my earliest memories is driving with my Grandfather in his car, one that would sound a loud buzzer when he went over 55 MPH. He hated that car (I don't think he kept it long). He would yell at the top of his lungs to SHUT UP!

When they started making all cars with the buzzer to make you put a seatbelt on my father would sit on the seatbelt to shut the thing off rather than put it on. He hated wearing seatbelts.

Boy do I feel old. I was driving long before seat belts and 55 mph speed limit buzzers.

Most of us agree :

it's absurd to try to make people drive 55 on wide-open interstates where traffic is sparse and distances are long.

You could not be more RIGHT! All of us need to be encouraging hiltery to go "full throttle" with this 55 mph speed limit idea!

Everyone needs to send an e-mail, a letter or call her and plead with her ... please ... please ... ms hiltery tell us more about how we need 55 as a speed limit. Tell us every chance you get! Tell us every day, in some way, how good for us this would be!

She needs all the support we can muster to keep her "peddle to the metal" and convinced this is the best idea to come down the turnpike!

PLEASE ... PLEASE JUST DO IT!

[Most gifts from foreign officials are considered U.S. property, and presidents and their spouses are banned from keeping anything worth $305 or more without paying for it. They are free to keep gifts from constituents, but must list them on financial disclosure forms if they are worth $305 or more.]

The Clintons hid, finagled 'amounts' and actually took things that belonged to the White House. They were forced to return certain things.

They did receive a lot from "friends" because the 'poor' Clinton's had never had a home of their own!!

IDIOTS!

If 55 is such a great idea, why not 45mph????

In fact, Why don't we make the speed limit the average attainable maximum speed on a bicycle? That way we'll save lots of gas AND ecourage people to ride bikes instead of cars!!

OH MY GOSH IM A GENIUS! I MAY HAVE JUST SAVED THE WHOLE PLANET!

Oh my gosh, I just had another brilliant idea! Since bikes are made in factories and factories polute, once everyone gets rid of their cars and rides bikes, we can then lower the speed limit to the average walking speed of a human! Then everyone will quit riding bikes and start walking! Once we acheive that, all we got to do is convince everyone to walk barefoot and bare @ssed...that way we won't need pavement anymore OR CLOTHING FACTORIES! Just think of all the polution we could save if we didn't need any concrete! And we won't need houses to store all our clothes and once we don't need houses, we won't need jobs...It'll be a perfect utopean planet OF DUMB@SS MONKEY BRAINED LIBERAL DIRTBAGS HUMPING THEIR SISTERS IN STICK HUTS!!!!

Clinton called for "most of the country" to return to a speed limit of 55

IOW, the "little people" can return to 55.

Those chauffered around would be exempt, of course.

Oh you are old! hehe.

I've never owned a car with anti lock brakes or airbags or seatbelt alarms.

I'm currently driving an early 80s chevy 3/4 ton with no radio, no carpet, no power steering, vinyl seat, no headliner, no third brake light, no airconditioning, no hubcaps, 4 recapped bias ply tires of wich no two match. I never wear seatbelts.

If I put it up for sale I might get a hundred bucks for it. But it never breaks down and still runs like a top.

But knew plenty of people who did it.

I may be biased but in my opinion the ONLY notable thing Bill Klintoon did for all of us - positive basis, not like selling our secrets to China, was to make it reasonably comfortable to drive - at 65 mph. Little else in his "legacy" will be remembered except as infamy.

Not much compared to what he did wrong and I am not discussing choice or use of cigars but for the good of our nation.
