CHICAGO, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement was released today by the Rainbow Sash Movement (RSM). The RSM will respond to the fear and intolerance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) persons, by many of our Catholic Bishops on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2006. We will be entering, with our straight allies, Catholic Cathedrals across the nation on Pentecost wearing Rainbow Sashes as a sign of identification. Some Bishops have welcomed us in the past, and we are thankful for their welcome.
Nationally our Bishops have lobbied against our human rights. Our grief is intensified because many in the GLBT Catholic Community feel alienated from the Church because of this assault on our human rights. We believe the Bishops have a serious obligation to root out structures and attitudes that discriminate against the homosexual as a person. A small number of courageous Bishops are exerting their leadership in behalf of this effort, and these Bishops will have our full support and prayers.
The Gospels reveal that, while Jesus did not hesitate to proclaim radical ethic of life grounded in the promise of God's kingdom, he never ceased to reach out to the lowly, to the outcasts of his time even if they did not live up to the full demands of his teaching. Jesus offered forgiveness and healing to all who sought it. And when some objected to this compassion, he responded: "Let the one among you who is guiltless be the first to throw the stone,"(John 8:7)
We are followers of Jesus Christ, and Catholic. This is why members of the Rainbow Sash Movement will wear Rainbow Sashes on Pentecost Sunday. We see homophobia within the Church as both an opportunity for education, and a way to promote the idea of love of neighbor. We are calling for dialogue.

You make specific reference to "his" church. Are you saying you're not Catholic?
What business is any of this of yours, troll?
You lost your cool right before you decided to troll this thread about a Church not your own concerning the practice of faith of others.
I'm going to take a wild stab at it and say that gay & lesbian Catholics have entered Catholic Cathedrals nationally on many, many, many Pentecost Sundays. Sheesh!

I am however intolerant. I don't associate with homosexuals and don't care to either. I discriminate against them and always will. Not because of them personally, but because of their behaviour.
"Gay and Lesbian Adventists"
ROFLMAO
Tend to your own church, troll.

Gee, ya think?
One of the weirdest things I ever saw was Andy Warhol in church attending mass on a weekday. Apparently he was devotely religious and attended mass several times a week in a church filled with old ladies who had no idea who he was...
I underestimated the depth and breadth of the delusion; what they're all searching for is not our acceptance and encouragement, but God's own permission and blessing in their mission, glory be.
Go figure.
Why do you think Catholics or the Catholic Church cares about your view?
Actually no, they are listed as abominations:
Well isn't that special. In the King James Translation, you find the same word "abomination" in Leviticus 11:10 and 11:12 to describe the ceremonial unclean status of water creatures without fin or scales as you find in Leviticus 18:22 and elsewhere to describe sodomy, incest, and other sexually perversities specifically proscribed by the Scripture. If you only read the KJV, then you would see the same word "abomination" in both places. Are you one of those folks who think the KJV is the only valid translation of the Bible out there?
If you compare the verses in other translations, NIV or NAS for example, you will find the word "detestable", but in some cases you will find the word "unclean" for the shellfish and a stronger word like "wicked" for the sodomy references. That is not a very thorough study, but it does indicate that context and word differences might apply here that you won't see just from reading the KJV.
If you want to engage in a little bit of more scholarly study, rather than just trying to twist Scripture to ridicule those who stand up for the truth, you might want to see if the word translated "abomination" is the same in both places. (Hint: it's not.)
The favorite verse of the "God Hates Shrimp" crowd (Leviticus 11:10) uses the word, transliterated from Hebrew, 'Sheqets' (pronounced sheh'-kets), which means "detestable thing or idol, an unclean thing," and is primarily ceremonial in meaning and context. The word used in Leviticus 18 and 20 to identify sodomy, incest, etc as "abominations" is the word, transliterated from the Hebrew, 'Tow`ebah' (pronounced to-ay-baw'). This word has two possible senses in which something is detestable: (1) a ritualistic sense, as in unclean, or idols; and (2) an ethical or moral sense, as in wickedness. In this latter sense, an act or behavior described as "tow`ebah" is not just ceremonially or ritually unclean but is literally abhorrent to God as wicked.
Only those most deluded by self-justification could possibly interpret the context of the prohibitions against sodomy and incest in Leviticus 18 and 20 as using "tow`ebah" in the ceremonial or ritual sense of the word that is comparable to the Leviticus 11 use of "Sheqets" for the unclean status of shellfish.
But your attempt to equate sodomy with eating shellfish is a nice try, and it will probably confound anyone who is either to ignorant or too lazy to actually study the meaning of the respective Scripture verses.
You see something like that, it stays with you.
I'll say! Haha!
And there are multiple words translated "abomination" that have different meanings and varying degrees to which something is deemed "detestable". Why do you imply that they are all equal?

You'd think if she had noticed that earlier on, she might have changed her mind about entering into the relationship. I know I always tried to avoid dating men from outer space. Call it a personal foible.
Part of my predicament with this church is that my son is very active in the church and I know he wouldn't understand if I withdrew and joined another church. Our rector doesn't try to force any pro-GLB views on us but we are a very liberal congregation, socially. But so far as I can see, the Rector and Assisting Priests follow the Scripture pretty closely and it is through the out-reach ministries of the church that most acceptance of the G/L lifestyle is encouraged.
There are some very conservative parishes in my Diocese and I may try one out at some point but for now I'm still waffling.
I agree with you about the church leaving me though. Perhaps it is because I am a senior citizen and my views are more old-fashioned than many people's are in today's society.
I do thank you for your suggestions and encouragement. You have given me much to consider.
Welcome to the Church!
I hope they don't interrupt as well.
At the very least she should have changed her stupid lock
or made him leave his key. But you know I have a good feeling about her. She'll survive.
Your source data is a bit questionable:
Leviticus 24: 1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually. 3 Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the LORD continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations. 4 He shall order the lamps upon the pure candlestick before the LORD continually.I'm not sure what use of pure olive oil for the lamps and pure candlesticks have to do with divorce and remarriage.
And it becomes nobody's business if they don't try to force society to redefine its institutions like marriage, and if they don't publicize their bedroom behavior and insist that we approve of it as normal.
