CHICAGO, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement was released today by the Rainbow Sash Movement (RSM). The RSM will respond to the fear and intolerance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) persons, by many of our Catholic Bishops on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2006. We will be entering, with our straight allies, Catholic Cathedrals across the nation on Pentecost wearing Rainbow Sashes as a sign of identification. Some Bishops have welcomed us in the past, and we are thankful for their welcome.
Nationally our Bishops have lobbied against our human rights. Our grief is intensified because many in the GLBT Catholic Community feel alienated from the Church because of this assault on our human rights. We believe the Bishops have a serious obligation to root out structures and attitudes that discriminate against the homosexual as a person. A small number of courageous Bishops are exerting their leadership in behalf of this effort, and these Bishops will have our full support and prayers.
The Gospels reveal that, while Jesus did not hesitate to proclaim radical ethic of life grounded in the promise of God's kingdom, he never ceased to reach out to the lowly, to the outcasts of his time even if they did not live up to the full demands of his teaching. Jesus offered forgiveness and healing to all who sought it. And when some objected to this compassion, he responded: "Let the one among you who is guiltless be the first to throw the stone,"(John 8:7)
We are followers of Jesus Christ, and Catholic. This is why members of the Rainbow Sash Movement will wear Rainbow Sashes on Pentecost Sunday. We see homophobia within the Church as both an opportunity for education, and a way to promote the idea of love of neighbor. We are calling for dialogue.

"They never add the part where He tells the woman, "Go and sin no more."
Great point.
The article SHOULD say gay and lesbian CINOs, Catholics In Name Only.
It would be the same if I was a divorced Catholic who remarried (first marriage in the Church, the second not) and demanded that the Church accept my invalid marriage.
It wouldn't happen, no matter how much "in love" we were.
Hello Miss Marple!
Here is the context.
But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."
Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.
When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court.
Straightening up, Jesus said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?"
She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more."
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."
When I read such words, tears come to my eyes, and I wonder that our churches aren't overflowing with people. We have such a marvelous faith.
As misguided and warped their message is, they still need our prayers. Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on these poor souls.
If someone does not believe in what the Catholic Church teaches, go and become an Episcopalian or a Unitarian. The Rainbow Sash fundamentally does not believe in religious freedom or toleration for orthodox Christian believers.
If you're in Texas (I think you are), you have the option of several Anglican Use Rite churches that use a service based largely on the '28 BCP but are in communion with Rome.
Why have they put sashes on those two little children in the photo?
"Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on these poor souls."
I just said the prayer, too, a few times.
You can make the Bible say ANYTHING you want it to - just take it out of context.
Remeber - text without a context, is nothing but a pretext.
And now to the big question - what is the motivation for this "action"? Is it to gain acceptance, or is it to grind homosexuality into the public view?
Homosexuals want to reduce religion, particularly Christianity, to a watered-down slurry of secular-humanist, "feel-good", "tolerant", nothingness. Reminds me a great deal of what the liberals have done to education...water it down until it is basically meaningless.
I'm happy for them to come to Church, but they need to leave their self-centeredness at home. Mass is no place for the 'look at me' nature of the homosexual movement. Mass is not about US, it is about Jesus's sacrifice, for our sins.
The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is NOT about dialogue.
Try the LCMS - you get to keep the Lutheran liturgy and hymns and leave behind the liberalism. I understand the Wisconsin Synod has also remained true to the Bible and the Lutheran catechism, but can't tell you from direct experience.
So you hate homosexuals?
I agree that humans have the right to sin but not to *demand* that others approve of their sins. I would also say that those who believe in sins and disapprove of sinfullness do not have the right to demand that sinners change - unless the sinner is deliberately harming others and breaking the law.
Would you say that you hate queers or just dislike them intensely?
Perhaps - but do you get the part about not throwing stones?
Is this what your church teaches you?
Do you understand what it means not to condemn?
