WASHINGTON - Two top CIA officials will bolster prosecutors' charge that Vice President Cheney's chief aide lied to them, court papers show. Prosecutors say disgraced Cheney chief of staff Lewis (Scooter) Libby learned CIA spy Valerie Plame's identity from, among others, agency officials who will be called to testify at his trial for perjury, false statements and obstruction of justice.

The U.S. alleges he learned about Plame from one of the CIA officials when he went after dirt on her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson. Wilson shattered a pillar of President Bush's rationale for war - that Iraq was seeking to build a nuclear weapon.

Guy who seemed to be more sympathetic to Clinton....

APBnews.com 6/19/00 James Gordon Meek "…..A CIA analyst's slaying over the weekend was the result of a robbery attempt and not tied to his work at the spy agency, authorities said today. Metropolitan Police said John D. Muskopf, 28, was walking with a group of friends in Washington's Shaw neighborhood at 2:30 a.m. Saturday when a mid-sized red or burgundy car pulled up. Witnesses said a man jumped out of the car brandishing a handgun and demanding money. "It appears Mr. Muskopf refused," according to a police statement about the incident. ……"

APBnews.com 6/19/00 James Gordon Meek "…..Bryson said investigators do not think Muskopf was targeted because he works at the CIA. …….. Mansfield said Muskopf was assigned to the Office of Transnational Issues, where he worked as an analyst on nuclear proliferation and security matters. ……Muskopf, who was single, was "very sharp as an analyst and very well liked by his colleagues," Mansfield said. ……… In March 1996, former CIA Director William E. Colby disappeared from his cottage on the Wicomico River in Maryland, fueling speculation about possible foul play. Ten days later Colby's body surfaced in the river, but his death was determined to be the result of a boating accident. Still, conspiracy theorists suspected he might have been murdered for his unpopular decisions as director in the mid-1970s, or over undisclosed secrets. ….."

The NY Daily News is an extreme leftwing NY paper that has a long history of licking the ground for Bill Clinton.

"Prosecutors say disgraced Cheney chief of staff Lewis (Scooter) Libby learned CIA spy Valerie Plame's "

What kind of BS is this? I thought prosecutors made no claims regarding her covert status, much less being a "spy". I thought this was supposed to have devolved to a strict perjury case. Did prosecutors actually say this, or is this some editor's way of misreporting to "change the world for the better".

yes, but the point is - they aren't being investigated. Libby and Rove are, and there is nothing that can be done to stop Fitzgerald. all along, the white house should have been on offense here, instead the only rebuttal message we have has been "this is a serious investigation".

Maybe you should have read the article if you're interested in this subject. The CIA guys are named.
"
But subsequent documents allege Libby asked top CIA official Robert Grenier on June 11 why the agency sent Wilson to Niger to see if Iraq tried to buy uranium. Grenier replied that Plame was an agent and "believed responsible" for arranging her husband's trip.

The other official was Craig Schmall, a CIA briefer whom Libby complained to about the Wilson trip on June 14, court files allege."

So then Robert Grenier is the origional source of the leak! The CIA outted one of their own?

This year, as CIA Counterterrorist Center chief, Grenier oversaw the failed missile strike aimed at Al Qaeda No. 2 Ayman Al-Zawahiri. Shortly afterward, Grenier was demoted.

Demoted and now looking to get even? Pathetic!

But Vince Cannistraro, a former CIA counterterrorism chief, said Grenier lost his job over his "concerns about aggressive interrogations [of terrorist detainees] at secret sites."

Possibly the one who leaked the information on the CIA's secret prisons as well! A disgruntaled traitor who outted Wilsons wife. Oh man, would I love to be Libby's lawyer with this goober on the stand! Destroy him and fitz top witness!

I noted from a Fox report last night on the new Iraqi cabinet that one of the officials used to be the head of Saddam's nuclear weapons program, but was imprisoned and beaten for his refusal to push the program along. Saddam had nuclear ambitions. Should the NY Daily News be sued for lying?

This case is totally convoluted. Isn't Libby indicted for not remembering he talked to some reporter, but Libby's diary indicated he talked to the reporter? Now you have witnesses on the subject of where Libby learned about Plame. OK, so maybe he heard it from some CIA people and from some reporters. So what? The trial is an absurdity at this point.

I think Libby's attorney Ted Wells will eat this mess for lunch. This kind of indictment is only good for threatening a guy into pleading. When they trot out all this confusion for the jury, Wells will cut through it like the Gordian knot.

Exactly! Who else did these CIA employees tell that "Wilson's wife" sent him. If she was so covert or classified, who gave them authorization to give her identity away?

Should the NY Daily News be sued for lying?
The rag is vying with the NY Times to be NY's official Hillary Clinton For President paper. Both papers should have disclaimers identifying their 'news' articles as Hillary talking points.

disgraced Cheney chief of staff Lewis

No bias here. Is he really "disgraced" before the charges are proven, or is just MAKING charges enough to disgrace people?

Fitzgerald's case is going down the toilet because he has to show that the charges that he brought was central to her being at the minimum "classified" or it's not central to the case and is just a he said, she said. Fitzy has to prove that these 2 CIA employees never had contact with the media either because that's the way Libby's lawyers will direct this and with all the leaks in the CIA I would almost guarantee these employees had spoken to the MSM at some point.

Nice editorializing in "...'disgraced' Cheney chief of staff..."
The line also violates the AP stylebook chapter on titles. If the Daily News means to add the word "disgraced" to Libby's title, all the worlds leading up to Libby should be in caps.

Ding ding ding.

There is actually a bit of truth in this article if you read enough into it.

Grenier either:

(A) outed Plame and blew her cover to Libby, or,

(B) Plame wasn't a NOC and wasn't covert, which is why Grenier was forthcoming to Libby.

This is actually a plus for Libby, and Fitzy knows it. That's why he leaked this upcoming testimony.

Check out Just One Minute blog, http://justoneminute.typepad.com/, for all the real info on this case. The major media news reports are persistantly wrong or way behind on this strory and this article is certainly no exception.

From JustOneMinute:

"Here is a headscratcher in the NY Daily News - they offer a no-news story bashing Libby based on months-old info, and we wonder why . . ."
