This act is very touching. I pray for a special blessing on this ship and all who travel within her.

I thought the Chinese bought up all the scrap metal. Seems to be the only thing they are willing to buy from us.

There is a good special on TV about this ship and her construction. It might have been the History Channel?, Modern Marvels?

There are still some who understand what we're really fighting for.

This is good news! Right after 9-11 I sent a request to President Bush to do this very thing.

"Melt down our ruined plowshares and turn them into spears".

Wow.

There is a piece of WTC beam that sits at the entrance to Camp Geiger, Jacksonville, NC, where all new Marines (save Infantry) learn their prospective jobs, at the Beurit Memorial. It was presented to the Marines by the FDNY in solidarity.

This is truly poignant. This hales back to memories of the battleship USS West Virginia (BB-48). Damaged and sunk at Pearl Harbor, she was raised, refurbished, and after serving well in the Pacific war, ended up in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese surrender. What ytuly delicious irony! May the USS New York and all who serve on her have the same history!

It's great being an American!  !

Reminds me of the movie The Patriot, when Mel Gibson's character melts down the last of his sons' toy soldiers and casts it into the ball that he uses to shoot the evil Redcoat colonel.

What goes around comes around.
