Your defense of Brownback reminds me of an infantile joke about a one-time practitioner of male, oral homosexuality. He claimed to have done lots of great things, built giant buildings, long bridges, won battles, etc., etc.

“Nobody ever called me a great builder or a great general,” he lamented, “but let me suck ~one~ little _ _ _ _ and what do they call me?”

Brownback has done some good things, but he is badly wrong on one little issue. And it is defines him now, another RINO along with McCain, Graham, Specter and the rest.

Brownback's voting record may be great but he just torpedoed any hopes of being President with that vote. McCain led him straight over the cliff.
