BATON ROUGE, La. — At least three people were killed and two others injured this morning by a gunman who opened fire at a church in north Baton Rouge, police said.

A manhunt was on for a suspect identified as Anthony Bell, 25, of Baton Rouge, who fled the church after abducting his wife and one of his three children, an infant, from the building, Sgt. Charles Armstong said.

Bell's two older children were found safe at their residence, Armstrong said.

Police received the call on the shooting around 10 a.m., around the time church services would normally be close to ending. "I'm assuming church was going on when the shooting occurred," Armstrong said.

Police said Bell drove off in a tan Chevrolet Impala.

The church is inside an old warehouse in a non-residential area of north Baton Rouge. It is surrounded by warehouses and various commercial businesses including a beauty shop, a bar and a guitar store.

FOX said apparently one of the people shot was the minister of the church.

Unbelievable.

If this shooting happened in Iraq it would be the top story and we'd be hearing about how horrible it was and how everything is a quagmire over there.

The press is describing the car at length (beige Nissan Maxima), the license plates, where the car was rented but nothing of the color of the perp's skin...is he white, chocolate, pink, yellow?

BATON ROUGE, La. -- A gunman opened fire at a church Sunday, killing five people before he abducted his wife and one of his children, police said.

A manhunt was on for a suspect identified as Anthony Bell, 25, of Baton Rouge, Sgt. Charles Armstrong said.

Bell fled the church after abducting his wife and the infant from the building, Armstrong said. The two older children were found safe at their home.

At least two others were injured in the shooting; their conditions were not immediately available, authorities said.

Police were called about the shooting around 10 a.m., around the time church services would normally be close to ending.

"I'm assuming church was going on when the shooting occurred," Armstrong said.

The shooting took place at The Ministry of Jesus Christ church, a small church sharing space in an old warehouse with a guitar shop. It is in a non-residential area, surrounded by warehouses and various commercial businesses.

Police cordoned off a nearby apartment complex early Sunday afternoon but it was unclear whether Bell was thought to be there.

Those gun-free zones are sure working. Might as well paint the building with a bulls-eye.

Church is a place of safety and sanctuary, not a place of death.
