Chief Stops Police Swearing-in Ceremony
WXYZ-TV ^ | May 19, 2006 | Ray Sayah

Posted on 05/20/2006 10:07:03 PM PDT by Westlander

It started as a swearing in ceremony to put badly needed cops back on Detroit streets, but it turned into a swearing out ceremony when Chief Ella Bully-Cummings decided to stop the event at the very last moment.

The 25 police academy students were ordered back to class after one of the students failed a pop quiz by Chief Bully-Cummings.

According to Richard Weaver, Detroit Police Officers Association, the chief asked one of the students for her assistant chief’s job description. When the student didn’t know, Weaver said the chief was "highly upset," had their badges stripped and sent all 25 back to school.

An Assistant Chief's job is to be the Chief's bag man.

Only someone completly lacking in qualifications would need to have their ego massaged by terrorizing underlings for imagined slights to the person's authority.

People who are competent and actually know what they are doing. Have no need to prove themselves at the expense of others.

While the gold shield is more concerned about herself....

Last week, Detroiters were murdering each other at a rate of only one per day. 'Only' because the 361 homicides recorded last year reportedly represents the lowest total since 1967. Unfortunately, it is the murder rate that is of real import, and back in ’67, Detroit had a lot more people, so the current rate of 39 homicides per 100,000 people is actually much higher than it was back in the ’60s.

I still have a few of the green cans around here somewhere and a P38 still hangs on the chain with my tags (up in the attic). At the end of my tour is when the switch to MREs was made (circa 1984), and NOBODY was happy about it - - we NEVER thought we would miss c-rats.

Semper fidelis,

Proper training means the people are trained before the commencement ceremony. The commencement ceremony is no place to do things like that. I can guarantee you none of those officers would spit on her if her hair was on fire. One day, she'll need them. Running a department is like tap dancing on a basketball. You need loyalty from your people.

Chewing outs should happen in private. You chew cadets out in front of other cadets to make a point, but after they've made it through the class, you never chew an officer out in front of another officer. You bring them in, and talk to them privately.

I just completed a training academy. At graduation, I tied two of my cadet's ties for them. Those are my people. I'd never belittle or embarass them in front of their family members. Mothers, fathers, wives, husbands and children waiting for a swearing in ceremony get treated to this garbage. It's not right.

It was 83'. Mine was the first unit to be issued them on our way to the middle east. I lost the heel off my boot and replaced it with the brownie. It's still my favorite set of boots.;-)

Good for you and thank you for your service.

As an outsider I wasn't familiar with this woman's history. It's interesting how the MSM breaks these stories nationally and they don't bother with the background the locals and those in the same field know. You'd almost think they did it on purpose. ;)

Well, I dunno. If I were a resident of Detroit, I know I would feel much safer knowing that the police know what an assistant chief does---or even what his/her name is. Would certainly put a spring in my step (which would also help me avoid the bullets flying about).

Well, I guess she showed them, huh? The gall of a young cadet, not knowing the job description of an REMF gofer like that. Nearly every department with which I am familiar, the proper job description for assistant chief is "Chief's apple polisher, lackey, henchman, and all around flying monkey". What a pompous bitch....

And, while we're at it...what's all this about "conserving natural race horses"? What about all those other poor horses out there that aren't fast enough to race?

Too bad she didn't ask them some useless question, such as, "Since you all bring new knowledge of your neighborhoods to this job, who is the first drug pusher you are going to arrest?"

/sarcasm
