I still have a few of the green cans around here somewhere and a P38 still hangs on the chain with my tags (up in the attic). At the end of my tour is when the switch to MREs was made (circa 1984), and NOBODY was happy about it - - we NEVER thought we would miss c-rats.

It was 83'. Mine was the first unit to be issued them on our way to the middle east. I lost the heel off my boot and replaced it with the brownie. It's still my favorite set of boots.;-)

I've never had a MRE.

The guy who cleans out the beer taps down at the pub says he's a Vietnam Vet and describes sitting around Bang Sang eating MREs.

The first half of my year tour in RVN was on a river boat and C-Rats was it.

I'm playing this guy like a Flounder, just waiting for the right time to set the hook.
