14 GOP INCUMBENTS DEFEATED IN PRIMARY
capoliticalnews.com (received via email) ^ | May 20, 2006 | Stephen Frank

Conservatives, nationwide are getting angry about the loss of principle by GOP'ers in office. Big spending in Washington and Sacramento. The inability to control illegal aliens. Failure to protect jobs and the failure to stop the social agenda of liberals in our schools in finally causing conservatives to say NO to GOP incumbents, even if it means we could lose seats in a legislative body. The thought is simple, why protect a Republican running for office if their voting record will differ little from the Democrats.

In Utah, GOP Congressman Chris Cannon could not win his Parties endorsement for re-election--his opponent got more votes in Convention then he did.

In Nebraska, Congressman tom Osborne, and legend in the state, was defeated for the nomination for Governor due to his weak stand on illegal aliens.

In Heardon, Virginia, five incumbent city council members lost re-election due to their creation of a "Day Labor Center" for illegal aliens.

In the California 50th Congressional District Special Election, the Democrat is ahead of the Republican, since the Republican has been portrayed as more liberal than many Democrats--has even supported Democrats in the past.

But, Pennsylvania last Tuesday should have been the two by four to every GOP candidate and office holder in the nation. At least 14 incumbent GOP office holders, including the top two in the State Senate were defeated in a Republican primary, by Republicans. The good news is that if they had not been defeated, many GOP voters would have stayed home in November. This is a lesson for us in California, and the nation, GOP voters have had enough of Republicans acting like Democrats. Our candidates need to stand for GOP principles, then vote and govern that way once in office.

No longer will GOP voters settle for, "well at least they have a "R" after their name." There is a revolt going on in GOP ranks and it is moving across the nation.

You need to learn to look at a RINO like Snowe or Specter as a place holder until more conservative candidates can be elected.

It's very hard to replace a RINO with a conservative without letting a dem hold the seat for a term. While genuinely moderate Republicans may be fine, RINOs are a cancer on the party.

Also, if I might use an analogy, if you are in a car that's skidding down an icy hill toward a sharp cliff, is it better to keep the brakes locked, or is it better to let up on the brakes to try to regain traction? Letting up on the brakes for a moment may mean that--briefly--one is sliding down the hill faster, and it may be that one won't be able to avoid going over the cliff. Indeed, one might end up going over the cliff sooner than if one simply kept the brakes locked.

On the other hand, the guaranteed outcome of keeping the breaks locked is that the car will go over the cliff. The only possibility of stopping it is to try to regain traction. The longer the brakes are kept locked beforehand, though, the more likely it becomes that the cliff will be unavoidable.

Bilbray the Republican had a ACU lifetime rating of 71%. If 71% is more liberal than "many Democrats" or even any Democrat, I'll eat my hat.

I find it ironic that this article describes Bilbray supporting Democrats as a bad thing (and it is) yet we're supposed to think it a positive sign that a Democrat is beating Bilbray the Republican.

I think we're lost in the woods.

It's a tough call.
Part of me says don't vote CINO no matter what. If they can't even secure the border then what good are they.

The other part sees the Judges we just put on the court
and says NICE. It also says that the DNC would have screwed the pooch on the war on terror and never had the stones to go into Iraq.

I didn't vote for Virginia Senator John Warner the last time he ran, and I never will vote for that bastage.
I'm not sure I'll have the same conviction if it comes down to Giuliani or McCain vs Hitlery though.

The problem? Cannon is open borders. Notoriously so.

His opponent will also be 100% ACU. And for closed borders and anti-amnesty. And if he wins the primary, he will win the seat.

That's an improvement.

Facts don't matter. /sarc GOOD post, Free Reign.

Short-sighted, ignorant post, you mean.

This is an instance where a conservative with one serious flaw can be and would be replaced with a conservative with no serious flaws.

Only a fool would pass up the opportunity.

Let me 'interpet' what you've said thus far:

It was good for the country when Clinton defeated Bob Dole.

I remember in '04 a guy named Matt Throckmorton also forced Cannon into a primary.

Cannon was for pro-illegal alien H.R. 1684 and Throckmorton ran against Cannon on that issue.

Cannon won IIRC by a good margin.

Anyway, after the 04' primary Cannon seems to be whistling a different tune -- he does a good anti-illegal alien thing by voting for HR4437.

IMO, It's hard to assess the Cannon '06 runoff as anti-illegal alien progress.

Cannon was forced into a primary two years ago too, but his opponent lacked funds and the open borders debacle hadn't reached full hideous flower. Here's an excerpt from a 2004 article in National Review On-Line that points up Cannon's "problem" quite nicely:

"The [Wall Street] Journal and Chris Cannon are exemplars of this second kind of post-Americanism, and thus the editorial makes sense — it's not the candidate as such that's at issue but the validity of his post-American worldview. Though his lifetime ACU rating is almost exactly the same as restrictionist leader Tom Tancredo's (96 and 97, respectively), their answers to Sam Huntington's "Who Are We?" couldn't be more different.

"Central to Huntington's question is the distinction (or lack thereof) between us and them, between Americans and foreigners, and especially, between legal and illegal immigrants. And Cannon minces no words here. Two years ago, upon receiving an award from MALDEF, a left-wing racial-identity group created by the Ford Foundation, Cannon said "We love immigrants in Utah. And we don't make the distinction very often between legal and illegal." He went on to boast of Utah's acceptance of Mexico's illegal-alien I.D. card and even praised pregnant women who sneak across the border to have their children.

"Nor was this an isolated incident. Just last month, Cannon and an aide appeared on a Spanish-language radio show (Cannon did his LDS missionary work in Guatemala), where the aide to urged illegal aliens to surreptitiously contribute to the Cannon campaign in the name of their U.S.-born children. It's worth looking at an excerpt of what aide Marco Diaz said, as Cannon sat next to him:"

. . .if you are undocumented you must find, we welcome this money, but you have to find someone who is legal in order to donate money, or in other words the federal law really does prohibit us from doing some things and we want to do everything by the rule, if not, our opponent can attack us and say "you see, he is trying to...to influence the race with people that, that are not here legally in this country." Therefore, it has to be done with precaution.

Cannon's opponent this time around, John Jacob, can match Cannon dollar for dollar in the primary. The mood among 3rd District Republicans has shifted sharply away from Cannon's open borders sentiments in the past two years. Where in the past they were willing to overlook it, they have clearly signaled "enough, already!" this time around. Cannon may try to salvage his position by publically adopting a closed-borders posture for the next few months. Chances are, it won't work.

I was at the convention in Utah and cast my ballot in opposition to Chris Cannon. His district is a sure Republican district regardless of who runs.

I was proud to be part of a movement telling RINOs to GO HOME!!!

Seeing as Cannon's lifetime ACU rating is 97% and his ACU ratings for the last two years are 100% each, I'm wondering which of his votes make him a RINO?

"Hillary's health care plan, and its defeat, in 1994 resulted in the Republican takeover of Congress. That was at least as potent as illegal immigration, if not more so."

Don't forget the Assault Weapon Ban that year also.

If only the RNC and the Republicans in DC would see this and believe it, instead they keep trying to shove Guiliani and McCain at us and telling candidates to move to the center.

I've been railing on the RNC SOBs every chance I get- on the phone and through the mail. The last questionaire they sent out had absolutely zero questions on illegal immigration, but I let 'em know. Shove this one world government agenda (free trade, open borders, cheap labor) up your A$$!
