'In God We Trust' goes missing

School plays it safe with yearbook cover photo

The freedom of religion at Liberty Elementary School has gone too far for some parents at the Colleyville school.

The cover of the Keller ISD school's annual depicts the 2005 Liberty Nickel – complete with the face of Thomas Jefferson – but the words "In God We Trust" are missing.

Instead, the $16 yearbook contains a sticker with the credo and directions on how to apply it to the cover if the owner chooses.

This is the nuttiest thing I have read in a long time. It's a nickle for crying out loud. The kids carry them in their pockets!

Seeing as this article is from Texas, I imagine the bureaucrats fear that many of the students feel that the Statue of Liberty, located on the east coast, is only welcoming to white Europeans. Or perhaps because its of a women that isn't wearing a head scarf. Or you can see her ankles. Or it was given to us by the French, or ....

Of course they can't use the Statue of Liberty. When legal immigrants came through to Ellis Island, they first saw the Statue of Liberty (a gift from France) and cheered. But now days, illgals sneak across the littered desert. See, they simply can't relate.

ALl faiths respected? The exact opposite - everyone who believes in God, no matter what day they worship Him or what name they call Him, are ALL offended.

The only people they aren't offending are the tiny handful of atheists. And this is grade school! Very few kids under 10 years old have decided they don't believe in God (except for those raised as devout atheists).

Although there are some who would promote such a change, Hitlery doesn't have a history worthy of replacing the title of "God" as a national icon that comes close to God's worthiness.

They could have left the motto on the coin as designed, then if parents did not like it, they could give them a sticker to cover it up.

Please read history. "In God We Trust" was accepted as the national motto on currency starting in 1957, encompassing all US currency by 1963. Prior to this, the US motto was E Pluribus Unum, which seemed acceptable to everyone including Providence.

If these pitiful excuses for educators were anywhere near honest they would provide the students with a sticker to cover up the phrase instead of a sticker to put it back.

Fighting to retain our Rights is too much of a big deal to too many people. You must have noticed that by now. You get labeled with names, such as "rascist" when you do; some people cave into being marginalized, or fear of being marginalized for taking a stand.
