'In God We Trust' goes missing
School plays it safe with yearbook cover photo
08:37 AM CDT on Saturday, May 20, 2006 WFAA-TV
The freedom of religion at Liberty Elementary School has gone too far for some parents at the Colleyville school.
The cover of the Keller ISD school's annual depicts the 2005 Liberty Nickel complete with the face of Thomas Jefferson but the words "In God We Trust" are missing.
Instead, the $16 yearbook contains a sticker with the credo and directions on how to apply it to the cover if the owner chooses.

This is the nuttiest thing I have read in a long time. It's a nickle for crying out loud. The kids carry them in their pockets!

(Sarcasm button on) That is so wrong! Why didn't they offer to paste on whatever the student wanted. Let's see:
In Man We Trust
In Moon We Trust
In Pot We Trust
In Gold We Trust
In Rock We Trust
In Rap We Trust
In Love We Trust

"..Statue of Liberty..."
Seeing as this article is from Texas, I imagine the bureaucrats fear that many of the students feel that the Statue of Liberty, located on the east coast, is only welcoming to white Europeans. Or perhaps because its of a women that isn't wearing a head scarf. Or you can see her ankles. Or it was given to us by the French, or ....

Of course they can't use the Statue of Liberty. When legal immigrants came through to Ellis Island, they first saw the Statue of Liberty (a gift from France) and cheered. But now days, illgals sneak across the littered desert. See, they simply can't relate.

Insanity. Indocrinate the kids the younger the better, obviously.

ALl faiths respected? The exact opposite - everyone who believes in God, no matter what day they worship Him or what name they call Him, are ALL offended.
The only people they aren't offending are the tiny handful of atheists. And this is grade school! Very few kids under 10 years old have decided they don't believe in God (except for those raised as devout atheists).

Or how about "In Hillary We Trust"? Although there are some who would promote such a change, Hitlery doesn't have a history worthy of replacing the title of "God" as a national icon that comes close to God's worthiness.

They could have left the motto on the coin as designed, then if parents did not like it, they could give them a sticker to cover it up.

Please read history. "In God We Trust" was accepted as the national motto on currency starting in 1957, encompassing all US currency by 1963. Prior to this, the US motto was E Pluribus Unum, which seemed acceptable to everyone including Providence.
"...The original national motto: "E Pluribus Unum"
The original motto of the United States was secular. "E Pluribus Unum" is Latin for "One from many" or "One from many parts." It refers to the welding of a single federal state from a group of individual political units -- originally colonies and now states.
On 1776-JUL-4, Congress appointed John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson to prepare a design for the Great Seal of the United States. The first design, submitted to Congress on 1776-AUG-10 used the motto "E Pluribus Unum." It was rejected. Five other designs also failed to meet with Congress' approval during the next five years. In 1782, Congress asked Mr. Thomson, Secretary of Congress, to complete the project. Thomson, along with a friend named Barton, produced a design that was accepted by Congress on 1782-JUN-10. It included an eagle with a heart-shaped shield, holding arrows and an olive branch in its claws. The motto "E Pluribus Unum" appeared on a scroll held in its beak. The seal was first used on 1782-SEP-16. It was first used on some federal coins in 1795..." (1)

"...Salmon P. Chase, on the $10,000 bill, was an old Abolitionist lawyer and politician (from the pre-Republican Liberty Party). As it happened, he was appointed by Abraham Lincoln to be Secretary of the Treasury and was responsible both for the introduction of federal paper money during the Civil War and for the motto "In God We Trust," which was introduced on the coinage at that time (but which did not appear on currency until 1957). In 1864 Chase was appointed Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, and in that capacity he ruled that the "Legal Tender" United States Notes had unconstitutionally voided private gold obligations previously contracted (Hepburn v. Griswold, 1870). Later his decision was reversed (Knox v. Lee and Parker v. Davis, 1871) with the help of politically reliable justices appointed by President Grant, opening the way for future use of fiat paper money and the wholesale voiding of private and public gold obligations by the New Deal court (Norman v. Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Co., Nortz v. United States, and Perry v. United States, 1935)..." (2)

Noted is Theodore Roosevelt's assertion that placing Chase's motto on legal tender was borderline sacrilege.

If these pitiful excuses for educators were anywhere near honest they would provide the students with a sticker to cover up the phrase instead of a sticker to put it back.

This is a US coin used during the second greatest expansion of US territory. You will notice In God We Trust is not present: One wonders how we ever survived as a nation...

I'm starting to think that if "the people" are stupid enough to allow this to happen, so be it. Where the blank are the parents, the townsfolk, the taxpayers whenever things like this happen?
To: Borax Queen; kstewskis
Fighting to retain our Rights is too much of a big deal to too many people. You must have noticed that by now. You get labeled with names, such as "rascist" when you do; some people cave into being marginalized, or fear of being marginalized for taking a stand.
