Immigration Reform...What Say You Now FReepers?
FR | 5-19-06 | Bob J

Be Careful What You Wish For

So, we get 350 miles of fence...the Dems and Immigration proponents everything else. I knew this was going to turn out bad. By elevating the issue of illegal immigration to a crisis level, immigration reform advocates have handed the dems and the immigration lobby the vehicle by which they will really open the floodgates and naturalize 120 million new potential dem voters over the next 20 years.

Ths was never going to work. The House and Senate simply have too many RINO's to effect the kind of change that reformists dreamed of. Anyone who thought it would was blind. Thanks for the effort, but the strategery wasn't thought all the way through.

By bringing the immigration question to the top of the table, they have handed the dems a bat with which to beat us over the head for the next 20 years. Conservative and pub reformists looking for real progress and change will be characterized in the media as meanspirited racists and bigots while the dems nickel and dime the legislation and take the teeth out of any new law. They will be portrayed as the real champions.

Hope you like the fence...it's all we'll get.

" All this ranting about RINOs isn't going to change the way people think in Connecticut."

People think in Connecticut? Wouldn't know it from their Senators and Congresscritters. What is it with New England? Is everyone braindead up there? Is there some hideous chemical in the water?

Agreed. Do you think they will do that?

10 years ago, my wife and I had a horse ranch located a few miles North of the Mexican border.

In New Mexico, around the Las Cruces area, the rodes formed natural choke points, and that is where the border patrol stations are located.

Our horse ranch was located about two miles South of the border patrol station, and that put us in a rather interesting situation.

The "Coyotes" would drop the illegal aliens off at my property and have them hike cross-country around the border patrol station. On the other side, they would join together and continue on their trip.

Having served with the U.S. Army for 20 years, and often performing the duty of guarding the borders of other countries, it was rather natural that my wife and I would protect our own home from illegal invasion.

My wife and I often captured illegal aliens and held them until the border patrol could arrive and take them into custody.

This citizen took the issue very seriously!

That has yet to be decided. Don't be such a doom and gloomer.

I don't really think I am a coward, but...until one is under fire, one never knows for certain. I would hope I would perform intelligently and honorably in any given situation.

I think the horse is already out of the barn. No matter how the details turn out, legalizing millions of illegal immigrants and wiping clean their crimes as if they didn't happen, is going to be bad for conservatives.

The first order of business is the rule of law and the Senate took a pass.

It may come to that...on a larger scale. I admire your gumption in doing so, and I understand it...if I had property being used like that, it would make me pretty angry.

"If it's bigoted to want illegals shot on sight what would you call allowing them to get in and kill innocent American citizens either intentionally or unintentionally?'

Huh? This is the kind of muddled rationale that got us in this problem in the first place.

"Thats not my recollection. The odd-bigot always got smoked out and zapped pretty quickly."

Not at first.

"Hell, even the non-bigot anti illegal FReeper got zapped, if his argument became uncomfortably cogent."

That happened too but it was because the bigots were allowed to run rampant on the threads for too long and they tainted all the clear thinkers.

Eastbound, thanks for directing me to Alan Keyes. It was most appreciated.

The border security crisis serves to reveal a deeper one, which has at its heart this question: If the elites produced by both the existing political parties are no longer willing to defend the nation's borders, how can we trust them to defend its life?

If for the sake of special interests and political ambition, they abandon the invisible line that defines our national territory, what of the intangible principles that define our liberty and the sovereignty of our people? President Bush and the Senate elite may think they are dealing with a crisis about immigration, but in fact it is a crisis of confidence, and it's all about them.

I'm overwrought with this issue, and need to lighten up.

But that's no excuse for my rudeness..I am sorry and I hope you will accept my apology.

"And I suppose Blacks like Maxine Waters who will oppose anything that resembles Amnesty are NOT going to be called Racists..but the Pubs will?"

Yes. And the media will spotlight the pubs and ignore the Waters.

"The fault with the GOP is that we elected a bunch of spineless, RINO's who didn't show their true colors till this."

You're saying the true colors of pubs like Chaffee and Smow were not known? Huh? Give me a break.

"We've identified them, they are on notice AND we are going to vote them OUT!!"

Blah, blah, blah. I've heard it all before but Chaffee and Snow keep getting elected.

Sure it is. Tell that to all the family members and folks who's lives have been ruined by an illegal alien.

I'd gather they'd rather have their loved ones back or would have preferred not to have been raped, beaten etc. as opposed to allowing illegals to cross at will unchallenged.

Oh, I absolutely did when I read your first response...I know exactly how it is, I didn't hold that comment against you at all. You thought I was one of those Freeper cowards, we've all seen em in threads!

No problem there.
