Immigration Reform...What Say You Now FReepers?
FR | 5-19-06 | Bob J

Be Careful What You Wish For

So, we get 350 miles of fence...the Dems and Immigration proponents everything else. I knew this was going to turn out bad. By elevating the issue of illegal immigration to a crisis level, immigration reform advocates have handed the dems and the immigration lobby the vehicle by which they will really open the floodgates and naturalize 120 million new potential dem voters over the next 20 years.

Ths was never going to work. The House and Senate simply have too many RINO's to effect the kind of change that reformists dreamed of. Anyone who thought it would was blind. Thanks for the effort, but the strategery wasn't thought all the way through.

By bringing the immigration question to the top of the table, they have handed the dems a bat with which to beat us over the head for the next 20 years. Conservative and pub reformists looking for real progress and change will be characterized in the media as meanspirited racists and bigots while the dems nickel and dime the legislation and take the teeth out of any new law. They will be portrayed as the real champions.

Hope you like the fence...it's all we'll get.

This might work to our advantage, and rid us of a lot of RINO scum. This, like queer marriage, is a hot button issue in this Peoples Republic as in yours, people are pissed.

We voted to rid ourselves of bilingual education, and our commissars betrayed us, hopefully this will wake people up, it affects Union Jobs, good jobs, at good wages, and no heavy lifting.

"Look, the republicans control both houses and the White House."

As long as there are Northeastern pubs, we will never control both houses."

"Are you suggesting a better time to approach the issue would be when the democrats are in control? "

Actually, that is the perfect time. Look at welfare reform under Clinton. The dems were put on the defensive and forced to pass legislation.

It's all the FReeper's fault! I didn't know we had taken over the government?

Doesn't Kaleefornia already have a fence along most of it's border with Mexico?

The President now thinks it's a good idea 4 1/2 years after 9/11! What say you Bob?

Right, it's not like the immigration crisis was created by an utter lack of enforcement on the part of the administration which post 9-11 should have been one of the very first priorities.

Their negligence with respect to this issue borders on criminal.

So how long did you expect the invasion to remain in the closet? We can fight this now or wait. I see a future where the odds don't get any better.

Don't blame the observant people for the obvious transgressions of the politicians.

"I disagree based on the fact that serious enforcement of the border has massive support across all party lines."

All evidence to the contrary. What does have broad support is building pretty fences and instituionalizing mass immigration.

"Has the National Guard showed up at the border yet?"

Not till June.
Until then the Border Patrol will have to clean its own toilets and pick up its own trash.

If you see my previous post, you can see that these groups that organized these demonstrations are not immigration proponents. Immigration proponents are their Useful Idiots du jour.

"IMO Bush should halt all immigration and all citizenship, and call for a nation wide vote."

Ain't going to happen, let's live in the real world.

"An issue this important should not be demagogued by politicians for political advantage."

You are an optimist, aren't you?

"There are enormous pressures on politicians of both parties."

It's like squeezing a ketchup pack. Sometimes it squirts back in your face.

The problem is not RINOs (Republicans in name only) but AINOs (Americans in name only).

"Has the National Guard showed up at the border yet?"

We would have been better off with the Peace Corps.

This ain't over yet, Bob. The Senate and their crap legislation on this is basically a lost cause. Where we need to apply the strongest pressure is the House to make sure that Hastert does not cave and that the House legislation survives nearly intact in conference committee. Those on that committee need to be targetted heavily because way too much behind closed doors stuff happens in those committees and the resulting legislation is often a hideous mutation of what went in.

Sen. Sessions is on C-SPAN 2 now discussing the problems with the current bill. He more or less said that big corp. and special interests has bought this bill thats why the Senate refuses to listen to the American people. He is discussing the detrimental effects on jobs and wages now.

1) Hold your Republican representatives in Congress (both House and Senate) accountable for their actions.

2) Let them know how angry you are about this issue and convince them that they will loose their next election, if they ignore people like you. They work for you, and not the other way around!

3) Refuse to contribute any money to the GOP until this issue has been resolved to your liking.

November is a long way off, but this issue is up for a vote this month. Now is the time to demand action from our GOP on this vital issue.

Some people on Free Republic will try to convince you otherwise and that is rather sad.

"This might work to our advantage, and rid us of a lot of RINO scum."

Northeast RINO pubs are elected because that is the way their voters like them. All this ranting about RINO's isn't going to change the way people think in Connectivut.

I didn't say it was FReepers fault...quit being so defensive.

"Doesn't Kaleefornia already have a fence along most of it's border with Mexico?"

Uhhh...no.

"The President now thinks it's a good idea 4 1/2 years after 9/11! What say you Bob?"

I have no idea what you're asking me.
