There have been discussions as to whether the estrogen in the milk is affecting boys behavior...in other words making them more emotional.

Try Soy milk. It's high in natural estrogens. While it may not make boys more emotional, it has been known to cause males to develop breast tissue.

Organic is a huge scam.

A friend of mine is a farmer, raising chickens. He talks about checking feed sacks, and finding plastic and bits of metal. He found out that the once feed companies meet the nutrient requirements, they add "filler" to meet the weight requirements. That filler can be outdated candy bars, etc. In this case it was loaves of bread, plastic wrapper with metal twists, ground up.

I've read that a free range chicken has 20 times the Omega 3 content of a corporate grown chicken. There are reasons ADHD and asthma are growing exponentially, and it isn't global warming.

The reason it was wrong for the USDA to get involved is that this essentially a religious dispute. There is not shred of objective scientific evidence that organic produce is inherently healthier or safer than conventional. This is also the USDA's position. Why they let organic producers suggest otherwise in their marketing is a mystery to me.

I prefer my food without pesticides.

Me too, which is why I avoid organic. Most organic produce contains more pesticides because organic farmers use chemicals that are not very effective. Where a conventional farm would spray once or twice per season, organic growers have to spray on a weekly basis.

High Fructose Corn Syrup (my own private bugbear).

You can thank the sugar protectionists for that. Here in Canada breakfast cereals and soft drinks are sweetened with processed white cane sugar, just as God intended.

Most organic produce contains more pesticides. . .

Interesting. Do you have a source for this info?

I think I will pass on that one for my son. But perhaps I will tell my girlfriends about it?

This is the big deal about WalMart going organic.

Producers will no longer be able to charge twice as much for half the quality.

I'm a big consumer of orgaincs (though I don't care to debate whether it's a sound approach to eating with the agriculture lobby) and I've seen GOOD change in the industry.

I have a can of organic Hunts stewed tomatoes in my pantry and a can of Muir Glenn organic. Same size. The hunts cost 1/2 as much and is of better quality.

I'm REALLY happy to see the big guys get into this business...but it really pisses off the hippys.

Here's a good start- it provides details of the pesticides used in organic farming.

Actually those are pretty tasty, and don't leave that funky Cheeto/ plastic after taste. Really like the Natural Tostitos too, less crap leaves them tasting saltier without actually having nearly as much salt.

My kids drink organic milk and eat organic eggs. I get the organic Spring Mix for salads and there's a brand of organic apples that are delicious.

I've recently begun buying organic meats and butter from Rosas Farms out of Ocala, Florida. Expensive but well worth it.

Although pesticides on plants concerns me, I am more concerned with antibiotics and hormones found in meat and dairy.

I grow tomatoes, peppers and herbs in a small backyard plot and pots. I can make my own salsa except for the onion and garlic but I can probably figure those out too. I hate to bite off more than I can proverbially chew!!

The ultimate whitetrash pick-me-up: Take a bottle of coke and pour a bag of Planters Peanuts down the neck. Drink the Coke filtered through the peanuts. You have to time the last third of the "cocktail" to allow the peanuts to make it out before the bottle is empty.

I think like you do. Although pesticides can be a concern it is the hormones that I am really worried about.
