Dick Morris: Build a Wall, Allow Guest Workers
NewsMax ^ | May 3, 2006 | Dick Morris

This ethnic group, by far the fastest growing in our nation, will likely tip one way or the other as a result of what happens in Washington this year and next. With the Hispanic vote expected to top 20 percent by 2020, the resulting collective decision of the Latino community could be the most important factor in the future of America's political parties.

Some Republicans feel squeezed between the demands of their right-wing base and their desire to appeal to Hispanic voters. But they need not make a choice. They can have their cake and eat it too.

Liberals want the guest workers, and conservatives want the wall.

Make a deal.

Give them both what they want. The president or, failing that, the Republican Party in Congress needs to put together a package that delivers both. The political impact of such a move would be sensational.

It would do more to build a link between the GOP and the Latino vote than any other policy decision. It could lead to a realignment of the political loyalties of the Hispanic community.

Unless he's talking about the Clintons (of which he knows something), Dick Morris needs to STFU.

And are they going to make the employers pay back taxes? You know, their part of social security, and will they be given amnesty for hiring illegals, not paying taxes, not paying into workmen's comp. I haven't heard anything about this from the Senate. So it's not just the law breakers from another country but the ones that aided and abetted them that will receive amnesty.

"Guest workers, if they are forced upon us, should have an expiration date tattooed on their foreheads."

Naw. Put it on their forearms.

I think those of us that have experienced life outside the mainland are all glad to live within this system.

-No, but they might very well be members of the Catholic church. More members means more money for the Vatican. See why so many Catholics are pro-illegal? I honestly believe they don't give a rip if they many illegals are socialist/Marxists or not. Just ask that Cardinal Mahoney rascal.

Statistics do not bear out what you postulate.

Dream on as you lose.

Why should I give any credence to what this toe-sucking, former Clintonista says?

"President Bush did exactly that -- gave everyone half a loaf."

And see how well it's working.

These politicians and political pundits never seem to learn that the ones who take the middle of the road "get run over by both sides."

Agree. Lay-off got me behind for a QUARTER of a year. Figured no big deal, always ontime before, IRS would cut me a huss on term payments.
YEEyah...NEVER HAtchee! They wanted all or ME. And DA-ME didn't think I needed a lawyer for behavior that was all HONEST.
Before said and done, I had to cash in a VERY substantial retirement plan to pay principal, interest and penalaties. Then there was "early withdrawal"...thought that was how additional deductions were avoided...or is that ascrewed?
...State came after me next.
Before all said and done, all levels of Gubment were beyond satiation..their toenails were even curled. So much for asking for a smoke..
Despite "talk" of the IRS, NEVER thought Government would do such to a Citizen Down but not Out.
As for the 'Migs, maybe they gonna get 50-year no-interest loan to pay back-taxes.
Fellow citizens that work for the IRS are a disgrace. Even worse are the elected folks that direct them forth.

Excellent point.

In addition, these 20 million will be pro-immigration and mostly pro-Mexico making even harder for our politicians to stop illegal immigration in the future.

Finally, why would any poor Mexican vote Republican? Love of the Capital Gains tax cut?

A poor Mexican will vote Democrat since they will give him benefits and social programs the Republicans won't. And in offering ethnic/race preferences the Repubs can never outbid the democrats. Lots of blacks are social conservatives, but they vote 90% democrat.
