All I read of your post is true, but then Pat R should have greater care in speaking out in God's name if the small, still voice is so faint.
It doesn't bring honor to God to say such, especially when he's incorrect so often.

but people like Robertson who are seeking oracles have no idea who or what is responding to their request...

I disagree.

Christ provided a clear New Testament way to test the spirits--those which do not confess that He came in the flesh . . . etc. are not of Him.

Pat is very experienced in such testings.

I recall around 1998 when he announced doom on Florida because Disney was having Gay Day or something like that. Robertson said Florida should watch out because they get hurricanes. The same year we had four hurricanes go through the Virginia Beach area (where CBN and Robert's university is located). You can't say that God doesn't have a sense of humor...

Any idiot who places an ounce of credence in Robertson or his fellow robber preachers shouldn't be let out alone in public. He, and they, thrive on the stupidity of the gullible who cheered Elmer Gantry as they give up the grocery money so that those theives can but another college and open a fake law school (Regents) and make up law to suit their biblical view of public policy.

Thank you very much for your harsh, mean spirited, assaultive and insulting viscious attack on my personhood, my sanity and my integrity. It helps a lot toward encouraging me toward humility.

Perhaps the Lord will finish that hard task before He comes again after all.

I quite agree. I think he's become more tentative and cautious in his wording. But he gets in trouble for that, too--as you see hereon.

He probably should consult his Board or other mentor peers more often. But, it's his TV show and if he feels led at the spur of the moment--I'd rather him share from his heart and spirit what he thinks is true and let the flock discern prayerfull as I Cor 14 exhorts us to do. THAT'S OUR JOB. I've had people, including myself, hold back for fear of being wrong and others missed out on a much needed input and blessing. I think that's worse, personally.

I'm not sure I would give him as much credit as others are doing. He is a mortal man...not one of the disciples. God may give him direction...or he may be an accomplished con man.

He may truly be in an advanced walk with out God...if that is true, then I am overjoyed for his blessings. I have no way of knowing. I will follow my own walk with God in the way that God sees fit to lead me.

I can't judge him because the bible says "Judge not lest ye be judged" Let's not make the man into a God...it's up to our maker to call each of us to the throne to be considered worthy or not.

"Thank you very much for your harsh, mean spirited, assaultive and insulting viscious attack on my personhood, my sanity and my integrity. It helps a lot toward encouraging me toward humility." Quix, my friend, you're amazing. You have a way about you ... I would have jumped down the poster's throat, but by your leave I'll just push the ignore button and whistle onward.

"God DOES speak to people, but HE doesn't give them incorrect information. Pat needs to be quiet."

I agree. Alice Smith, who is an intercessor(I read her books) talks about when it is good to say something and when it is NOT good to say something if you believe that God said something to you. Even she said that sometimes it is your own mind that says it and not God. She was asked one time about the United States, and what God was revealing to her about it, and she would not say anything. Only that we had better come back to God or there would be serious consequences. Pat needs to shut his mouth and find other ways to express himself when he believes God revealed something to him.

Alice sounds like she has a lot of The Lord's wisdom. I agree. And many of us learn that the very hard way. And some of us have thicker heads than others of us.

Re: "You seem to be of the very high and lofty opinion that God would never implement a training course in hearing His still small voice. Perhaps you've declined to be enrolled in such a training course."

"Still small voice training course?!" Are you saying that is what Pat Robertson is doing?? He's just practicing publicly on one of his "still small voice training" assignments. Don't you get it? The problem with Pat Robertson's comment is that it could have been said by anyone - maybe God is going to send a storm or a tsunami?! Let's see, I can do this too - I think God told me that maybe you are going to get sick this next year or maybe it was a traffic accident, or, God told me that California is going to have the Big One this year and slide off into the Pacific - maybe.

It would be one thing if Pat were sitting around with a few friends and tells them about some "feeling" he's having about God's leading - but that's not what he did. He made a public proclamation that God spoke to him and gave him this so-called message. The problem is the message is so vague that whether it comes true or not, God is off the hook (and so is Pat).

My question to Robertson would be: Why even say this at all? Is God saying this or not? If you don't know, then you better keep your mouth shut until you are certain one way or another.

You seem to want to equate personal impressions from prayer and Scripture with God "speaking" to you just as He did with the prophets. Don't you realize how serious it is to claim such a thing? In the Old Testament the people were instructed that if anyone comes to them and claims that they are speaking a supposed message from God, and that message does not come true, then that person was a false prophet. The person who made the claim was to be put to death.

Am I saying that God cannot speak to us today? No, I'm just saying a lot of people (Christians included) go around presumptuously saying that God "spoke" to them when they really do not know what they are talking about, and that they are forgetting that it is God's Name and reputation that they are putting on the line when they do so.

The question is, how do we know if someone truely has a "message" from God or if they are just having an emotional experience or an ego trip? First, if what they say contradicts sound Biblical doctrine and teaching, then that "message" is to be rejected. Second, if the message is prophetic about a future event, it will be clear, concise, and easy to confirm or deny. It won't be some vague "maybe" or "possibly".

You must apply this to people claiming to speak for God, or you will be carried away by "every wind of doctrine". The Christian's only solid ground is the revealed Word of God in the Bible. Don't minimize it's importance in this regard.

Very wise............not only for Pat, but for all of us.

We know that we as a nation, are in deep sin, and that we need to come back to obedience to God's laws, but when one gets into the political realm (or the weather??), it's best to keep quiet with one's thoughts.

I see that often here on FR, where people are adament about issues, but it is their politics driving their understanding of Scripture, and not the other way around.

It's a very dangerous thing to do (we all do it at times, I think), but Pat Robertson's notoriety should make him even more careful of the things he says come 'from God.'

If and when he is wrong, then he brings dishonor to God. It's one thing entirely to be persecuted because you represent the Lord, and are persecuted by the world, because Christ was. It's quite another to be ridiculed because you are saying that God has told you things that He hasn't told you, and you in essence become a false prophet.

Pat needs to be quiet.
