Watt arrested in D.C. protest
The Charlotte Observer ^ | TIM FUNK

WASHINGTON - Rep. Mel Watt, D-N.C., of Charlotte and six other members of the Congressional Black Caucus were arrested outside the Sudanese Embassy on Tuesday while protesting the killing and starvation that continues in that African country's Darfur region.

"We will not tolerate genocide," said caucus chairman Watt. "We are saying to Sudan: `This has to stop.' "

The protesters' plan was to get arrested, Watt told the Observer, and they alerted Capitol Police beforehand that they would block the embassy entrance.

Watt said the group was advised to stay off the sidewalk -- the jurisdiction of the District of Columbia police -- and the Secret Service officers who made the arrests waited until Watt answered reporters' questions.

Then the caucus members were handcuffed, taken to a nearby police station, booked, and fingerprinted.

Saddam kills 400,000,and threaten us with WMDs and the dems say do nothing. Darfur has 150,000 dead and are no threat to us and the dems say invade.

District of Columbia police

My gawd, MORE racist police brutality. They are as bad as the KGB, arresting decent, honest, fervent, loyal, wunnerful advocates like Watt.

I don't get it. Why protest here in the U.S.? Shouldn't they actually GO to Dafur and protest there?

Yes, well like Hollywood liberals, they still want their modern comforts and conveniences.

Another effective Black Caucus exercise.

Can't let the illegals get all the ink and TV face time.

That's right the illegals are coming to DC today to demand their rights.

ICE agents will be prominent in their absence.

The Black Caucus are so racist that I'm stunned that they aren't called on it more often.

In their warped worldview, the Sudanese people are worthy of being saved, but the Iraqi people aren't similarly worthy.

I'm just sick and bloody tired of this relentless guilt trip being foisted on us. It's not just Mr. Watt -- it's the mainstream media too. I decided after the tsnuami when some UN guy said the U.S. didn't do enough that I would quit feeling sorry for all these little poor pizzant countries whose citizens will not take responsibility for themselves and expect the U.S. to take care of them. The way I figure the misery these people are experiencing now is due largely to their own irresponsibility. We have our own problems. We can't be expected to wet nurse the rest of the world. Let the UN take care of the problem if it thinks it can do better.

This guy needs to go to Philadelphia. The murder rate this year is terrible. The blacks are killing blacks and nobody cares. The streets are a shooting gallery. People are being shot in the home and vehicles by stray bullets fired by low lifes. Where are the black leaders and black caucus members when citizens are being killed in our own city? They just do not care.

Give the man credit for bringing attention to this disaster. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

The things is, people will see the pathetic "demonstrations" by these whackjobs and will associate the disaster in the Sudan with them...and they will lose interest.

Wow. At first I thought it was our buddy J.C. I am glad it't not. I know his name is Watts, but I read it quickly. Of course another observation is that Democrat was not in the title of the story!!!! Surprise.

This dim bulb has never been rated more than ten watt, max. The only way to determine if the switch is on was to strike a match and check the position of the switch.
