Washington Senate: Cantwell (D) 46% McGavick (R) 41%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 5/16/06

May 16, 2006--Senator Maria Cantwell (D) from Washington has been on the defensive lately. She has antagonized some of the political left with her stand on Iraq and her vote on the Alito nomination. The state's Democratic Party Chairman raised doubts about her campaign last week and her GOP opponent ran an early ad blitz.

Add it all together and Cantwell's support has fallen for the fourth consecutive month and the fifth time in the last six months. The incumbent began the new year with a fifteen percentage point lead over challenger Mike McGavick (R). Now, that lead has fallen to a mere five percentage points, 46% to 41%.

A month ago, Cantwell led 48% to 40%

I don't know much about Washington state but my perception is that the only thing that gives the state any hope is the eastern region which tends to be conservative, while Seattle is a cesspool of liberals dominated by California transplants and Asians, who for whatever reason tend to vote Leftist.

A shame really, that latter thing.

It looks that way now. November is a long time off.

Don't count the GOP down & out just yet. The base in my county are mad and ready to vote in November...I can only hope the base like myself work just a little harder to insure the tension remains high so the reluctant voters turn out.

We're still hot over the Gubernatorial election theft of 2004, sick of mainstream Republican's who vote like RAT's and Bush ain't on the ballot.

No, I'm not a Pollyanna, rather a scrapper who considers themselves boxed in, you know what that means....

McGavick is closing in. Look for the Democrats to go negative soon.

Steele will be fine if the dems nominate the white guy instead of the NAACP Mfume. If they do, blacks in Maryland will either vote for Steele, or stay home, both of which will seal the deal for Steele.

Seattle is hardly part of America anymore, it seems. San Francisco and that area too. Pretty sad.

I certainly don't feel at home in Seattle. It is sad. My mother in law lives in that "enlightened" town. With just my tiny NRA sticker on my truck, last Thanksgiving, one of her neighbors attempted to give me an earful about guns endangering the city

It is amazing how well GOP senate candidates are doing, while everything else is falling apart for Bush and the GOP.

Not really. I STILL think this election will not be a "referendum" on Bush but instead will come down to local issues. This is why I think that even Kean could squeak by Menendez in New Jersey as well.

Ya, the poll does have a GOP bias I think. At least it is under suspicion for that.

Well, GOP House candidates seem to be suffering. We shall see what comes out of CD Cal-50 in early June.

She bought her last election with her internet cash.

Not totally, but she did pledge her Real.com stock as collateral for a loan. As the stock fell in value during the dot-bomb phase of 2000, nobody bothered to call for more collateral during the course of the election. Immediately after the election, Hillary held a fund raiser for Cantwell, and paid off her loans.

Of course, now she's owned lock, stock and barrel by the Hildebeest, and she's mirrored her voting record accordingly. This has upset the hyperliberals that populate the urbanized areas of Washington (you should see the drubbing she takes over at DU), and we would be wise to give some poll and possibly even some financial support to some Green Party-type candidate that could steal a "principaled" 5 to 10 percent of the vote from her.
