[history]
I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.

I would not be as irrational as you are.
Are there that many 'conservatvies' UN-AMERICAN enough to not vote and hand congress to anti-American liberals?
I don't think so.

Yep. I am on record: if you don't hear anything about punishing employers, it's "boob bait for the bubbas," a dog-and-pony show.

Seems a lot of cold accounts been warmed up with one liner sentences of support.
Never talk about the detail. RNC e-mail went out - "counter posting on freerepublic" LOL. Probably happened.

There is a huge difference from needy Mexican Catholics coming here to work, and Muslim Al-Queda that have vowed to kill us.
Look at the numbers for the OTM (that's Other Than Mexican). It is estimated to be around 100,000 per year sneaking. Who are they? Who knows. Some Hamas have been captured. Some prayer rugs and Korans have been found. They aren't all coming here to pick lettuce. Wake UP!

Amazing! I thought I was hallucinating for a few minutes. It seems as though Bush finally found a way to use the spine hes had on foreign policy the past six year, on domestic policy with the border. Short of not building a wall, hes pledged to do all the things I recall real conservatives have said needed to be done to secure the border! National Guard on the border, more Border Patrol, more surveillance, cameras, guaranteed deportation and no more stupid mega-retarded "catch and release" program, and even though Im not a fan of the whole worker program, that ID would be great if they make it hard to illegally duplicate, and illegals couldnt get work and employers would be stupid to risk the consequence of hiring people without that card. I cant wait to hear Limbaugh and Hannity on the radio tomorrow!
The democrats will be fools to oppose all this. ALL the polls, even the liberal ones taken about the border issue show that 70% to 80% or more of American CITIZENS want the border secured and illegals deported. Thats about 99% of conservatives and a significant number of the independents and the few rational democrats. If the democrats fight this, they will lose big for sure in November, as it will be so easy to paint them as anti-border security. This is awesome. Just my opinion, but I bet the Border Patrol story about them leaking Minuteman and other border watch group location and numbers to the Mexican Consulate is what made Bush have to get serious about this. Hes been in trouble about the border for a long time, but I think that might have pushed it over the edge.
Ill bet over the next few weeks, his "approval" rating numbers go up 20 to 30%. The his conservative base, like me, is why its been so far down. Id give him a favorable now. THAT is the President I voted for two times. The only thing that would make it even better the next few months would be Bin-Laden being found dead in Afghanistan, and Justice Stevens or Ginsburg retiring so the Democrats can froth at the mouth demanding a flaming liberal to take their place. A huge majority of the American people want what Bush put forward tonight. The Democrats took a big hit tonight with this speech.

You are commenting pretty well in your post, but you're talking about the future, and one that is over a decade out. If you zero all foreign workers today, an economy our size will not tolerate it. By the time your decade arrives, there will be another Great Depression in the history books, only in this one it was our parents who died at 60 of no heat in winter -- not our great grandparents.

Yep that was a big let down. I was hoping to find my Country again tonight. Well I'll at least save some gas come Nov when I won't have to drive to the polls. Nothing will keep me from it. Those supporting this I vote out. I will look for a conservative canidate withing the Independent s if the GOP can not provide such. No More Rino and especially no more F.O.B. candidates.
He made no mention of even cutting off social services to illegals. As for the penalty? LOL what a sick joke maybe what? $2000. The companies will be having $2000 sign on bonuses for them. That's fer nothing President Bushquist.

To all Thread Hijackers, Illegal Immigration obsessers et al...
Shutting the border completely is political suicide. It will allow the Democrats to get into power and will immediatley reverse our progress. President compromised with the Far-Right (US) and the Center, this was a great speech and looks like the turning point of the GOP low point, while the GOP might not be the best, they are better than the RATS. Putting Pelosi third in line to presidency and letting the Democrats control legislation (AND THUS, WAR FUNDING ETC) is NOTWorth making points to people like Chafee, Snowe and McCain.
This is the best we could have asked for from Bush, we are lucky he didnt stick with his original plan (full guest worker and no National Guard\More Agents) Stop whining and realize that we got the bigger end of the stick. Democrats just got B*tchslapped, so sit back and enjoy
I Rest my Case.

That speach will cost 45 seats in the house Mr. BUSH. Impeachment will take place 3-6 months are that. Oh, Puh-leez. Remember, we in the base are important, but every election is determined by that 20% in the middle that swing. This speech must be targeted to them as he is the president of the US, not the chair of the RNC. The middle 20% swing voters will approve of this...POLITCS IS THE ART OF THE POSSIBLE.
