I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim
Good summary... I can't believe anyone could be newly persuaded. The focus-group platitudes shouldn't be that powerful on FR!
If this is an ass kicking, then you're the one legged man.
Bush triumphed tonight. Only the reptilian knuckledraggers will fail to see that. Bravo Mr. Bush!
No Wall
Shamnesty
Anchor babies
Welfare, education for illegals
The invasion will continue and our great nation will not be recognizable in 20 years.
Our last hope is with the GOP in the House.
he said it was difficult for employers to determine who had legit ID and who didn't
but didn't say anything about FINING THOSE WHO HIRE ILLEGALS!
Extra bases, perhaps. He may score on the throwing error coming up from the Democrat response. :)
Didn't the President just denounce nonsense fear mongering related to the immigration issue.
Few here are stupid enough to buy that hyperbole. Give it up.
A double fence from Gulf Coast to the Pacific, could be built in 1 year... It would probably take 2 years, though..
As for what we do with the illegals in the meantime...
Give them that time to return home and start the LEGAL process of immigration..
Basically, tell them it's a Misdemeanor Crime to get caught here while we're building the border fence..
But when it's finished, it becomes a FELONY, and they will spend 1 year for the 1st offense at hard labor..
A second offense will be 2 years, 3rd Five Years, etc..
And they will still get sent home after they serve their time, and they will be forever barred from entering, even legally...
Let the illegals decide what to do, go and re-enter legally, or stay and serve time, and lose any chance at citizenship..
"Viva Mexico" was apparently left on the cutting room floor
No comparison whatsoever.
Before or after they bus their criminals north so they can hop the border?
I'm not in the employ of either and I agree: It was an excellent speech - our President/CIC is a man of tremendous character and he serves this great nation proud.
If you disagree, who gives a rat's a$$?
My Monday poker group has 6 guys (2 libs) and everyone of agrees that we have been sold out.
And how did you become a citizen?
What screen capture?
He said clearly that employing illegal aliens was "against the law" during his speech.
I disagree. First and foremost, is stopping the influx. He sounds committed to doing that. If we don't do that, nothing else will matter. That's why he emphasized it right out of the box.
And ANY guest worker program must be temporary. That too he said.
It was 75% positive and 25% negative, IMO.
You have to live in Western Southern State to understand the crime that goes with this scum. There are Freepers who will tell you horror stories. The last big May 1st demonstration was the LEAST crime in Los Angeles in decades on any day. Self explanatory.
"Third, we need to hold employers to account for the workers they hire. It is against the law to hire someone who is in this country illegally. Yet businesses often cannot verify the legal status of their employees, because of the widespread problem of document fraud. Therefore, comprehensive immigration reform must include a better system for verifying documents and work eligibility".
I hope this doesn't mean until we develop a better system for identification these employers will skate?
Why do you think those that had problems with his position before should be placated?
He is not going to fine those who hire illegals. They are paying the party too much damned money to worry about us. The employers know exactly what they are doing. It is BS.
