I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim
Aliens who serve in the Military automatically qualify for citizenship. U should know that. And has earned his citizenship.
However, I don't want to pay for his mom and dad, 18 brothers, 10 sisters and 47 neices and nieces and uncles and aunts.
Yes' I know. Spitz Matthews just said he thinks Durbin endorsed the President's speech.
Finally some wisdom.
WE don't need another "Trail-of-Tears"!
Educate! Assimilate! "Carpe Diem" and defuse Socialist infiltration.
I have a question.
What are we going to do when we offer these illegals that have been here a long time right to citizenship and they don't take it since it means they have to pay bak taxes, etc? Are we going to give them a time limit to get it together or else or are we just going to continue letting them live here as illegals?
I want that answered from the Presidant!
Good Gosh you are killing me. It's a joke.
Ya know, that slightly annoying glare in the window is ultimately meaningless, yet in some ways symbolic. Another detail overlooked by an admin with good intentions but perceived to be less than professional and lacking in competence. Sheesh, do they need Tony Snow to cover every single aspect of PR?
Like it or not, the President is not currently perceived as a great leader by the majority of Americans. Unfortunately this speech did nothing to break that perception. Obviously substance is more important than style, but appearing competent and comfortable in the office of the Presidency does matter when you are polling under 40%. The danger is this will lead more Americans to just blow off his speech.
"The President's poll numbers are freefalling into the 20's as he speaks. Rightfully so. What a disappointment."
I just listened to a pile of cr*p. Same old same old. He hasn't budged off of his amnesty program one bit. This is all a temporary ploy to fool all you RINO's out there, and it will. I'm sure you'll jump on the compassionate part of his conservatism, and I use that term loosely, and totally ignore that he is not conservative here at all. He's as bad as the Dems on touchy feely, we can't kick them out, they work so hard, baloney. He said nothing about how so many of them feed off of our welfare system, education system, end up in our jails, and cost we, the taxpayers, bundles of money. He said nothing about going after employers w/fines, jail, etc. for those that hire illegals, he said nothing about a real fence; in other words, anything that would really work he did not speak to. This is sickening, and Bush once again proves he is nothing more than a Rockefeller Republican in disguise. And you RINO suckers out there fall for it. Disgusting.
Exactly.
You are absolutely right! We gotta stop eating our own!
WEAK Speech...come on, we knew all this, people walk across deserts, blah blah blah...doesn't he get it..we need enforcement up front and first W.
I love GW!!
He has the honesty to deal with a problem no one else would. He will piss off the isolationists, but so what. They want all the illegals out NOW and a WALL, which is plain stupid, not to mention unrealistic. I am embarrassed to be associated with them as "republicans" anyway.
God Bless George W Bush!!!
LOL! The above coming from one of the biggest enablers of hysterical hyperbole on FR.
He did a fine job tonight.
Thank God he doesnt listen to the ranting extremists--on both sides.
Reading thru this thread is a kick... I'd like to ask all those claiming this was a persuasive speech - what was the difference between what the president said this time, and what he said last time?
He says we need to ratchet down the rhetoric, and have a debate, but he has budged not one inch from where he began on this issue.
Look at this situation with your good eye. If you want a good screwing, listen to Durbin's dem. reply. Unless you have a tin ear, that is.
