[history]
I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.

Um..."automatic path to citizenship for every illegal immigrant" is what he just proposed, but says it is not amnesty. Hoo boy.
To: rodeocowboy
Taking middle ground. Many of y'all may not like it but he is doing a good job of communicating this program. "Not amnesty."

Also, demographic data indicates about 50% of our population stems from the original, pre-Revolutionary War settlers Each one of us have over 1000 ancestors who were living at the time of the Revolution. Some of them were probably in the new world and some of them not in the new world! That 50% number is meaningless.

...not enough detention facilities...
[Check with the Sheriff of Maricopa County. He seems to have found a solution.]
Exactly! We just said the same thing - - Sheriff Joe knows what works.
Hey, Mr. President: Tents are good enough for our troops but not good enough for criminals?

I really think he is doing pretty great here.I agree.
#5--honor the tradition of the melting pot. Discussing the importance of knowing English--leads from low-paying jobs to good ones. Discussing assimilation, its importance.

(Come on, Gary, act! (I finally saw Team America and am still laughing))
Says he opposes amnesty. Trying to redefine amnesty. Says he disagrees with the dictionary definition of amnesty. Says that anything less than mass deportion is not amnesty. Says there's a difference between someone who crossed the border illegally and those who have been here for years, own a home, and have an "otherwise clean record."
"People who meet these conditions should be able to apply for citizenship."
"What I've just described is not amnesty." "Demonstrated the character that makes a good citizen."
Baloney! It is still amnesty if they get away with their crime whether they illegally purchased a home or not. They've demonstrated their willingness to break our laws and violate our sovereign borders. They should go home and apply if they ever want a chance at citizenship here.

He sounds like he's talking to children. It's not an effective speech.
