I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim
If a fence could be shown to provide ample security without traversing every mile of the border, wouldn't some of the BorderBots' concerns be addressed? If not, why not?
True. On the other side of that coin; if the illegals are made citizens they will get, by force of law, vacation bennies, health bennies, family leave, retirement accounts and all that stuff. The businesses who employ them now will drop them like hot rocks and get more illegals. Where will the new Americans work?
You are wrong on two points.
Rush let the cat out of the bag today when he stated he was blasted by everyone he met in California last week. Rush is out of touch on this issue just as those in Washington. He has paid token references to ii recently, but he had no idea how strong sentiment was against ii. Rush, living in his highly secured world now mingles with the elite and thus risks losing touch with the grassroots conservatives, which I believe he has. He certainly spent time today explaining how he was not out of touch. I think many in his circle has been taken by surprise at the strong feelings against ii.
Good summation. Bush simply refuses to budge on this issue.
I didn't hear Tancredo tonignt...But if you're right, I'll call him tomorrow and straighten him out...
I see, Looks like I'm Buying, Scotch Anyone ???
It's not even debatable. Dobbs was furious and visibly upset. There were even posts about in this thread.
Tancredo like PARTS of the speech but his praise was very measured. He still had huge problems with it.
I'm not sure how anyone could think that Tancredo, much less Dobbs, liked the speech.
Didn't you all? Hell he won by 10% every election.
Okay, here we go:
1. All illegals must register under some federal identity program.
2. All must be fingerprinted and entered in a worker database.
3. All must show a record of "paid" health insurance policy.
4. All must show proof of paid annual auto insurance.
5. All must show worker's comp insurance.
6. All must show appropriate, valid drivers license.
7. All must register all family members in the states.
8. All must pass some basic english speaking skills.
9. All must pass a bilateral crime database exchange shared between the U.S. and mexico to ferret out the criminals.
10. All must pay an initial fee to validate their status (after all the above are satisfied). This fee is $650,000 per family member, initially. $650,000 x 14 million illegals. This is equal to 9 trillion dollars and we can retire the national debt overnight. Beautiful.
You specifically said upthread that bankruptcy was the intent. If you're backing off now, fine. Congratulations.
I don't know what the fine amount should be. Maybe $10,000 is the right amount. But the President was right that we have to institute a system whereby employers will know for certain whether prospective employees are citizens or legally-registered foreigners with permission to work here.
I'm all for employer sanctions if they're intentionally hiring illegals. The penalty should be less than the death sentence from a business standpoint.
What a drama queen.....
Lighten up, Francis.
I've been pretty preoccupied with family tonight and only checking FR occasionally; I missed the speech but read it online, and I think I might agree with you; I've been no defender or fan of the Administration's stance, and I'll have to see if they'll walk what they talked tonight; but, I think I liked what they talked. It kind of told me that maybe just maybe Tony Snow gave the White House a dose of reality courtesy of FR.
Perfect and true post.
Everything has a cause and effect. Look at the energy situation since we helped improve the economies of China and India>
Speaking of Chuck Shumer, I saw an interview with him after the speech where he agrees with everything the President laid out.
Political rule #1: If you agree with Chuck Shumer, you are a shmuck just like he is.
