I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim
You're telling me, now, that this is what the INS/ICE said? I don't believe you.
You said that you called the police.
I asked you WHY you didn't call the INS or ICE.
Now, NOW, you're telling me that the INS told you that they can't do anything unless the illegals commit a crime? SINCE WHEN DOES THE INS DEAL SOLELY WITH A CRIME OTHER THAN BEING HERE ILLEGALLY?
"Is this straight from truthout?"
What's "truthout"?
It's axiomatic.
2006 is an off-year election, when turnouts are always bad.
Conservatives are the key to low-turnout elections, Border Conservatives, the "BorderBots", are a key part of that constituency all across America.
Before the speech they said, loud and clear over and over again, what they needed: a real FENCE, and NO amnesty. President Bush didn't give them that. He gave them a "virtual" (i.e. "unreal") fence and amnesty-by-another-name.
Here on FR, you see the BorderBots howling like boiled cats, and it's entirely sincere. A certain number of them will sit out this election, or vote for third parties. They said so before, and they will execute now. In an offyear election, losing a key constituency, while the Democrats have just organized the legal and ILLEGAL Hispanic vote as never before, spells disaster in enough congressional districts to give the Democrats control of the House and the Senate.
Pelosi and others have already said they would immediately begin investigations, and she's been coy about impeachment.
Each of these things is linked, and always was linked, and folks have been saying it for a long, long time. That's why Bush had to give a speech tonight: to try and break the iron triangle forming around him.
Ask the BorderBots on the thread. They were the ones saying BEFORE the speech, for weeks, that if there was amnesty and no fence they were sitting out this election.
Go ahead and ask how many of them have changed their minds.
If that reflects the Border Conservatives' view, as I strongly suspect it does, the Republicans will lose Congress, and impeachment will follow in train.
Of course, if the BorderBots swallow hard and decide they have to vote Republican anyway, to save the rest of the agenda, disaster will be averted. I see no reason whatsoever to believe that they will do that.
Hi
These people are brutal. See ya tomorrow.
Ang
Exactly!
The talk was so TOUGH tonight, twice as many illegals will be coming here tomorrow.
The Indians were here and then the Spanish.... Mexico didn't even want anything to do with this area and was not at all sad to sell it to the USA -- for $15 million dollars-- and the people who were here at the time were thrilled to finally be under US sovernty.</p>
I wouldn't mind Bush's plan so much if it weren't for the Reconquista (demographic conquest of former Mexican land) aspect to this. Some people in the Latino community (and this includes, no doubt, some illegals) sincerely want the S.W. United States to revert back to Mexico. Mexicans have been taught that this land was stolen from them (rather than ceded by their own government per the Tready of Guadalupe Hidalgo). In this light, legalization instead of deportation or attrition is a form of slow demographic suicide for that part of the U.S.
Furthermore, there is the plain ol' National Security aspect of this. Homeland Security cannot even properly screen the 950,000 legals who come into the U.S. each year. What makes you think they'll do any better with a flood of 12 to 30 million just-legalized people?
We have so much to thank W for. It is truly sad that so many conservatives of his own party are so ungrateful they want it all.
I guess they have forgotten any good relationship is difficult and both sides must give in on issues to make it work. Unfortunately too many just want to take. There are days that I am disgusted with the give me everything attitude of some conservatives. Do these conservatives with children give their kids everything they want and demand? My hunch is no. So, why act this way as and adult?
If we lose in Nov., because these ungrateful short-sighted republicans stay home, they will get allot, I repeat allot less from Reid and Pelosi.
It is truly sad these republicans forget the great economy, low taxes, low unemployment, our safety, no child left behind, medicare overhaul, drug prescription for the elderly, etc. and not to mention the honor returned to the office of the presidency by W.
W will be remembered as a president that had to overcome and deal with obstacles that no other president in our union has, and he did it with class. He did his way. God bless you W. I am proud you are my POTUS. My daughter prays everynight and she says May God bless you president Bush and your family. I could not say it any better.
Then it isn't going to do much good, is it?
Im not your son..
Dana Rohrbacker and JD Hayworth are not pleased.
I guess you missed lawdude's clarification.
The "final solution" in question is the deportation of all illegal aliens from the U.S.
"Push a button and, poof, they all disapear?"
The problem is not that any should "disappear".
The problem is that the so-called "comprehensive" legislation before Congress is not "comprehensive" about enforcement as much as it is "comprehensive" about massively increasing immigration.
See: http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/wm1076.cfm
The U.S. cannot assimilate 100 million new people in twenty years, and the numbers of those who will immigrate and be eligible for national safety-net entitlements within those 20 years will dwarf all current federal deficits by a couple trillion dollars.
The "reform" mantra is being used to hide details that will totally remake the U.S. socially, politically and in every other way in 25 years or less.
And too many people are going along just to go along.
Get out of here and go read what is actually in the "reform" legislation.
Quit supporting talking points and slogans when you don't know the details being pushed behind them.
BUMP
"You may never get out of the weeds, because a flood is overwhelming you, senora."
If it gets that bad, and that is always a possibility, because if we can't stop the explosion of illegal immigration soon, we will be lost as a country anyhow, and will become Atzlan. I'll be dead, so it will obviously be immaterial to me, but I pity those in this country who will have to deal with this problem, and who will lose in the process what this great country once was. I, however, will die with a clear conscience, knowing that I knew what was coming and tried to so something about it before it was too late, whether I succeeded or not.
One small consolation is that your country will go down the tubes way before ours will. We may end up Atzlan but you will already be Eurabia. But, then again, you may be lucky and be dead by then too. I'd rather live in an Atzlan, than in a radical Islamist state of what once was France, with a Mullah as President and your progeny living as second class dhimmi citizens in what was once your own country. So sad.
Nope - I know Brit. Next question.
Hey ang...it was inevitable.
See ya.
"You Bush Haters have fallen for the bait the Demo Leadership has spewed and you feel hook line and sinker.
Newsflash- this didn't come from the Demo leadership."
Oh, from the MSM - - same thing
