President's Immigration speech - Live thread

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim

"He added that part of the problem is all of the forged documents."

And anyone who says they can't confirm that the applicant is legit is FLAT ASS LYING!

The Social Security Number Verification Service (SSNVS) is one of the services offered by Social Security's Business Services Online (BSO). It allows registered users (employers and certain third-party submitters) to verify the names and Social Security Numbers (SSNs) of employees against Social Security Records.

With SSNVS, you may:

Verify up to 10 names and SSNs online and receive immediate results. There is no limit to the number of times the SSN Verification web page may be used within a session.

Upload batch files of up to 250,000 names and SSNs and usually receive results the next government business day.

The only new thing in the speech was sending some unarmed National Guard troops to help the Border Patrol shuffle paper.
>>

But this is explicitly not true. There was clear and overt mention of and ending of catch and release.

We were just discussing all three of your proposals this evening.

"2) heavily fine illegal-hiring employers"

And use that money to fund efforts to keep out/deport more illegals.

Excuse me? What makes you think I haven't made complaints. Here's what happens - "We're aware of it, there is nothing we can do unless they are openly committing a crime." Translated into: "We know they're illegal, but asking them for their papers would get us reamed by political groups."

I've also written my representatives.

But, I guess I haven't been too vigilant, and "not doing my duty" as I was in the area on my way to my military job.

Why does Bush insist in calling Mexico "our friend". I remember our "friends" celebrating 9-11 in the streets of Mexico selling Ben Laden masks and t-shirts.

Does a government who is a "friend" distribute to it's citizens literature on how to sneak across the American border?

And what is meant by "back of the line"? When law breakers are already here and enjoying the benefits of the nation? And what business do law breakers have marching in our streets making demands, claiming that they are just taking back what is theirs? What business do law breakers have becoming citizens?

If we need "guest workers" why favor Mexico, why not start the search for guest workers in Honduras or Costa Rica? Bush's remark that we can enforce laws and still be a welcoming nation is just tap dancing. As though demanding that law breakers be deported by enforcing our laws somehow negates us being a welcoming country. These people don't want to be Americans, they don't want to "assimilate", they want cash.

Every 2nd-term President seems to attract such bots. Remember Clinton's bots? No matter what was said there they were, defending the indefensible. Women libbers attacking the attacked women as whores. I'm inclined to think the bots don't even know they're bots, they just wander around, passing from President to President...

The House passes HR4437 a pretty good bill and you say that the American people are unhappy with the House?

A falling tide lowers all boats.

Is that folksy expression some sort of rationalization or excuse for why voters would be unhappy with a House that just past a pretty good HR4437?

You forgot to mention how many brutal rape-murders have been committed by illegal aliens in the past five years. It is truly disgusting

And of course native born Americans never committ any crimes.

All ethnic groups have their human scum, but you would rather focus on the ethnicity rather than the brutal crimes they committ.

I almost hate to interrupt your diatribes, since you do such a wonderful job of making a fool of yourself.

Of course all ethnic groups have "human scum." However, when you have unfettered, uncontrolled waves of people coming across the borders, you have no way of knowing just who it is coming in. A good example would be the Mariel boatlift. Roughly 10% of those who came here were criminals and the mentally ill. These are the sorts of people who should be kept out of the country. As should terrorists. But if you don't find out who's coming in, you can't protect yourself from them, or keep them out.

There are some simple facts that can be pointed out... Illegal aliens accounted for 17.5% of all crimes prosecuted in federal courts, whereas they are less than 6% of the adult population. From 1980 to 1999, the number of illegal aliens in federal and state prisons grew from 9,000 to 68,000. Today, criminal aliens account for about 30% of the inmates in federal prisons and 15-25% in many local jails. In 2003, the ICE Detention and Removal Office in Los Angeles had the manpower to process only 10-12% of the estimated 40,000 illegal aliens who passed through the county jail (24% of the total of 170,000). Over 35,000 were released back into the community. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office says there are over 300 murder warrants outstanding in L.A. County for illegal aliens who have fled to Mexico. They estimate there are 800 to 1,000 such warrants statewide in California and possibly 3,000 nationwide.

Now, maybe they're just committing crimes that americans don't want to commit, but illegal aliens ARE being incarcerated at rates that far exceed their percentage of the population.

Bush`s guest worker proposal is amnesty. The Bracero program of 1942 was a before the fact temporary worker program and it was set up between the US and Mexico governments. Today, the illegal alien workers are already here. They've already invaded. Bush wants these illegal aliens to stay and to be given a path to citizenship, even though they're criminals. You don't get!
