President's Immigration speech - Live thread

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim

Just one more nothing speech. He is a lame duck with 2 1/2 years to go. In a year he will be beyond lame, maybe paralyzed.

What did he say would happen to employers who hire illegals? I think about 4 or 5 companies a year get busted. What is going to change? Where is the penalties? You make it a 5 year offense to hire illegals, the problem is over. There will not be any more problem. But, that isn't going to happen. The campaign contributions from agribusiness and the construction and the restaurant industries are so shiny and filled with zeros on the end.

Chicos, sadly, I believe many do not realize Abe Lincoln was a Republican. A wonderful black woman, Frances Rice, who is former military, is working tirelessy with the National Black Republican Club to educate African Americans on how it was the Rep Party that helped end slavery etc.

The President is all for an amnesty program and yet many of the illegal protesters a few weeks back carried anti-Bush signs. These are NOT future Republicans.

These people are poor, uneducated, and willing to break the law to get what they want. That screams Democrat to me.

I'm no liberal. I've been a member of this forum since 1998 and am as conservative as they come.

Throwing around unfounded accusations will not support your position or convince anyone to change their point of view.

Give me your sick and impoverished. Give me those who refuse the rule of law of the USA. Give me those who lift their own flag over that of this country. Give me those who educate their children on the American Citizens dime. Give me those who will not pledge allegiance to this country nor learn it's language. Give me those who would rather flee their own country than try and fight for a country under THE RULE OF LAW.

You know, LAW. That law that came by way of MOSES.

Our President and this countrys politicians are all about the Rule of Law?

YOu bet.

This should be lively on CNN/Larry King - Edward James Almost versus Jim Gilchrist.

Slight correction. The Mayflower landed in 1620. Jamestown, the 1st permanent English settlement, was in 1607. I invite you to come to "the birthplace of America", the Old Dominion, the great state of Virginia and celebrate with us, our 400th birthday in 2007. Are you THAT dimwitted enough not to realize that Texas, California and the whole southwest were not part of Mexico at the time?

>>>>>He basically handed us our entire cake, just it was one peice short...

WRONG!

First off, Bush didn't promise 12,000 new border patrol agents. He said there would be an increase of 6,000, starting a year from now.

"By the end of 2008, we will increase the number of Border Patrol officers by an additional 6,000."

Bush`s other rhetoric sounded good. Josh Bolton, Tony Snow and Karl Rove did a good job of preparing Bush for this speech. But I'm not convinced Bush will do anything. He has had five years-four months, 55 months since 9-11, and so far very little has been accomplished to secure the borders and enforce employer sanctions.

Bottomline. Bush still supports amnesty. That is unacceptable. Period.

What you said in your 1048 post is what I got from the speech also. He flipped on things he's refused to do for years now, and those things, National guard, fences, more Border Patrol, no more catch and release, etc, those are significant policy changes that most Americans want to see done, and now it's up to the Democrats to oppose all that, and prove to the Americans that they are anti-border security. That will roast them at the polls. I do not see how this is a losing night for the Conservative agenda. I see it completely opposite of that.

My comment about the Border Patroll was entirely complimentary.

I just wish I would have thought of it.

Silly me, I elected to use the word immigration as the word to be said for doing a shot.........
I'm now on my 33rd!

FreeRpublic is a great place to get leads but most of you don't have a clue. I don't worry being called names. I would love to tell you what I have but you will have to read it in the papers.

Im sorry about the parking lot comment, I should have realized your a REAL investigator with super secret "leads". Dont worry, I know security guards at Toys R Us need love, too..

The whole Southwest was part of Mexico before wars. These California kooks who think no Mexican Americans belong don't even know history.

I think most of us kooks are quite aware that the SW belonged to Mexico. For a few years, anyway.

On the other hand, you're the Doofus if you think there was anything more here than a few spanish ranchers and native indians - and zero mexican indians. Mexico did exactly squat with the entire area, hence deserved to lose it to a better, stronger society.

I hope you don't have a problem with that.

To: JCEccles

uh how about the rest of the synopsis..

I was governor of a state with 1200 mile of border I know how hard it is to control it (so I waited 5 years to even think about doing anything because now my butt is in a sling)

No amnesty, no cutting in line, (actually I want to just let these 12 million people stay here who weren't in line and confuse the americans who don't understand our immigration laws by saying they dont cut in line when any fool knows they did and I am rewarding them despite saying I'm not!)

We can't deport 12 million people (well we can but we can't do it and get my brother or nephew elected to President)
