I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.

Yes, 12 years of GOP control--in some sense . . . has left a lot to be desired.
but DIMRAT control would have been 3-5 TIMES WORSE.
He also said they had to GET TO THE BACK OF THE LINE from those who are legal immigrants, learn English, etc. -- but I guess you missed those parts
Right this is why he is all over this issue.
Its a real simple solution folks to get control of this.
2) Fine companies heavy amount of money (perhaps a percentage) if they hire illegal Aliens
Fine on first violation, jail on second. That would end this stuff real quick.
Failing to shut the border completely (to illegal entry) is ~cultural~ suicide.
Welllll, you've been missing out on some fun! :-)
-sure it's a form of amnesty........they get to stay here and drain us......
W said that we deported SIX MILLION
if they can deport SIX MILLION
they can deport 12...
SEAL THE BORDER
BUILD A WALL
FINE EMPLOYERS WHO HIRE ILLEGALS
I agree with Peter King & Tom Tancredo!
Nope - it started during WWII and that labor shortage too.
Illegals put on a path to citizenship is not amnesty to you. What exactly would be amnesty in your opinion?>
>>>>Disagree with that one.
Don't know how you can disagree with some well accepted facts. In the 2004 general election, exit polls showed Bush received 44% of the Hispanic vote. That was a new record for a Republican candidate. 56% went to John Kerry.
If Bush grants amnesty to the current 15 million mostly Hispanic illegals living in the US today, the Democrats will get the lions share of those new voters in future elections.
Republicans get the majority of legal immigrant Hispanic voters. While the Dems get a majority of illegal Hispanic immigrant voters. Big difference.
I liked what I heard tonight better than what President Bush had been saying. He made no mention of fixing the automatic citizenship to children born in this country to non-citizens. I still think that maybe no reform is better than passing anything that may come out of congress, especially the Senate.
Well said.
Get better.
Sadly --
Article II, Section 1, clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution states that:
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
The fourteenth amendment to the United State Constitution provides an additional source of constitutional doctrine that emphasizes birth "in the United States" and subjection to U.S. jurisdiction at the time of birth, as the defining elements of citizenship (other than citizenship by naturalization):
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the Jurisdiction thereof, are Citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. . ." Amendment XIV, section 1.
W rocks. I have never taken my refrigerator magnet down and I wish I had left the bumper sticker on my car. I just figured that a flag and a fish were enough but I guess that they're not.
Wait, seething with anger is next.
It wasn't.
If illegals have to get in line for citizenship, I figure those at the end -- behind 12,000,000 -- will be granted citizenship in about 500 years, considering the annual quotas.
