And put who in office??? Most Republicans and Democrats are NOT for booting 11 Million illegals. I don't know if there is one out there for it.

I think most people would find his January 7th, 2004 proposal to be acceptable and realistic.

Tonight we'll see whether he actually will defend that proposal to the letter, or will he let the Senate introduce it's "path toward citizenship", which is unacceptable to the American people.

Count me as one.

However, even more important to me is going to be...what is will he and Congress do to prevent more illegals from coming in here? And what is going to be done to beef up INS staff and capabilities to for example, detect and deport those who are here on expired visas? From what I understand, the 9-11 hijackers were here on expired visas. It's not just a matter of illegals coming over from Mexico. The fact of the matter is that our entire immigration system is in the dumpster. It is completely ineffective. But I doubt the President or anyone else in government is going to have the balls to actually do what has to be done.

It hardly matters who we replace them with. If we go with the amnesty/citizenship plan, republicans (at least conservative ones) will stop winning elections anyway.

It's not just about the hispanic vote. It's also about the economy and about diplomacy. There's no question in my mind that deportation of 11 million people (or more) in 2-3 years would send us quickly into a severe economic recession. Because about 20% of construction workers are illegal immigrants, it would be difficult for the Fed to get the economy moving again by cutting interest rates and boosting the housing sector. The housing sector wouldn't have the labor force needed to expand in response to lower interest rates. Deportation of all those people is out of the question, both economically and diplomatically. All you folks who want to do that, you may as well forget it right now. It's never going to happen, nor should it.

That said, I believe illegal immigration has gotten out of hand and it's time to essentially seal the border with Mexico to stop further illegal immigration. Bush needs to also start a much more honest discussion of this issue. He and his people need to stop saying that the border patrol is adequately handling border security when we know (from pictures posted here) that some trails in southern Arizona are deliberately left unguarded by the BP. That kind of deception doesn't work any more in the internet age. Clinton could say that back in 1993 and nobody could challenge his statements effectively. Well not any more. People post pictures of Mexicans hiking down the trails, right here at FR. I've seen a number of these pictures. The dishonesty of our federal government on this issue is really getting people steamed up. That kind of clear deception has to stop.

Finally, Bush really needs to stop using that phrase, "jobs Americans won't do", which implies that we are all too soft or too lazy to do certain jobs. Instead, at least say something like "jobs that Americans don't want to do in sufficient numbers to keep our economy rolling with strong growth." That's the truth. There are Americans who will do any job, but there aren't enough of us who want to do some jobs, like harvesting fruit and produce. I've said enough. I hope the administration starts to listen more to conservatives.

I am. Read my tagline. There are millions and millions of people who have been patiently waiting in line to come into this country legally, they should be given their chance.

Yes, we CAN deport 11 million if we have to, but we won't have to. You do it a little at a time.

If we go around saying that we can't deport 11 million illegals what we are saying is there is no hope of us ever enforcing our laws. You might as well say let's eliminate congress because we have just surrendered to anarchy. If we can't enforce our laws, how do we ever hope to win the war on terror?

READ MY TAG LINE!

Every illegal immigrant must be deported if we are to remain a sovereign nation!

Yes its hard! Yes it will take time! Yes it will cost money!

Without the effort, we will NOT have a Nation anymore!

I am. However, that job would do itself for the most part if we'd crack down on the employers and stop providing the illegals with all sorts of government goodies.

Did you listen to Newt on Sunday...he had some logical ideas....You don't have to round up illegals...just cut off their funding at they go back home....

I suggest we import Fox and run him. Like Bush, he has the illegal's interests at heart and his government runs much like ours. Bribery, corruption, arrogance, spin etc.
