Bush set for immigration speech

BUSH SET FOR IMMIGRATION SPEECH

WHITE HOUSE President Bush is getting set for a prime-time speech on
immigration tomorrow night.

Aides note the 8 p-m, Eastern Time, speech will be the president's first from the Oval Office that does not involve Iraq and the war on terrorism. And they say that reflects Bush's
"passion" on immigration.

He's speaking as the Senate is poised to clear a compromise measure including his idea for a guest worker program. However, a rival House bill is limited to a border crackdown, and meshing the two won't be easy.

Stand Up For America !

"We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...
And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

So even though President Bush did say in effect that the Mexicans owned the southwest and waved a Mexican flag.
He is ashamed of it because he was nailed.

What a crock....he's been touting this 'compromise' for a couple of weeks. Its supposedly the 'no path to citizenship/no amnesty plan' and what makes it so, according to Pence is that they have to return home for ONE DAY, yet when they return, green card in hand, they are eligible for 'naturalization under America's citizenship laws' or AMNESTY. His plan is just as bad if not worse. The only difference is that they 'earn their amnesty' by returning home for one day. It's still a path to citizenship. And the HOUSE had better not be pressured into accepting it as a 'no amnesty' compromise. Pense's definition of 'no Amnesty' is just as bad as Bush's.

"GUEST WORKERS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED WITH A PATH TO CITIZENSHIP, ALTHOUGH GUEST WORKERS WILL NOT BE PRECULDED FROM APPLYING FOR NATURALIZATION UNDER AMERICA'S CITIZENSHIP LAWS"

Can't have it both ways Pence.

He's not the only one with a new 'no amnesty' plan up his sleeve, and it sounds to me like Sensenbrenner might be willing to compromise?.....check this out. Oh, and Tony Snows comments about how the 'border security' has now been resolved!

'Amnesty' jams compromise bill
By Jerry Seper and Stephen Dinan
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
May 27, 2006

One of the top House negotiators on immigration said yesterday the only way a final compromise bill can pass is if the Senate drops its path to citizenship for current illegal aliens, even as Sen. John McCain announced plans to try to broker a deal.
Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner Jr., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said he is willing to accept a temporary-worker program for future workers, but citizenship for illegal aliens -- which he said definitely constitutes "amnesty" -- is out.
"A guest-worker program I think can be on the table if it does not contain an amnesty, but only if the employer sanctions and the increased border patrols are effective," the Wisconsin Republican said.
It's not just Mr. Sensenbrenner. House Republicans are lining up behind him in their opposition to the Senate bill, including Rep. Charlie Norwood, Georgia Republican, who said it "constitutes treachery against U.S. sovereignty" and called it "dead on arrival in the House."
"The U.S. Senate voted to sell out the American people to vested and foreign interests with passage of a bill granting not only amnesty, but preferential treatment of illegal aliens over American citizens," Mr. Norwood said.
Meanwhile, two members of the Republican Main Street Partnership, a group of moderate to liberal Republicans, said they will try to broker a deal on their own.
Mr. McCain, the Arizona Republican who was a driving force behind the Senate's bill, and Rep. Michael N. Castle, Delaware Republican, announced they already have begun meeting to try to reach an agreement.
The Senate on Thursday passed its broad immigration bill, which offers a chance for citizenship to millions of illegal aliens, increases legal immigration, creates a separate program for future foreign workers, builds 370 miles of fencing on the border, and approves hiring thousands of new border and interior law-enforcement personnel.
The House in December passed an immigration bill that focuses on enforcement including 698 miles of fencing, thousands of new enforcement officers, a system to check for employers to verify that both current and future employees are legally able to work, and a provision extending criminal penalties to cover all illegal aliens and raising the crime to a felony.
The Senate bill passed on the strength of Democratic votes, 62-36. Four Democrats and 32 Republicans -- a majority of the Senate Republican Conference -- voted against it. The House bill passed 239-182, with 17 Republicans and 164 Democrats opposing it.
From the White House standpoint, press secretary Tony Snow said the administration has done what it could to take the border-security objection off the table, and have now "gotten past that important benchmark."
"Border enforcement starts the first full week of June. It's already happened," Mr. Snow said, referring to the deployment date for the first of up to 6,000 National Guard troops President Bush wants sent to the border. "What the president has proposed is far more aggressive and robust than anything that had been considered by either house."

WHY AREN'T ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION LAWS ENFORCED?....HMMMMMM.......

Concern Voiced Over Gonzales' Connections with La Raza
AgapePress ^ | December 2, 2004 | Chad Groening

Posted on 12/02/2004 6:10:03 PM EST by Ed Current

An immigration reform organization is concerned that the man President Bush has tapped to be the next U.S. attorney general has been involved with an organization that opposes the enforcement of immigration laws.

The pro-life community has already expressed its concerns about White House counsel Alberto Gonzales, noting that while a Texas Supreme Court justice he chose not to rule against abortion, in any situation. Now the Washington, DC-based Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is calling Gonzales to task for his reported involvement with the National Council of La Raza, which has endorsed his nomination for attorney general.

FAIR spokeswoman Susan Tully says La Raza unabashedly supports rights for illegal aliens. "When you're talking about the attorney general of the United States, he would be considered the 'top cop' [for the country]," Tully explains. "And if his leanings and bias are sympathetic to illegal alien lawbreakers, that should be a huge concern to those of us who believe in law and order -- and that those laws are there for a reason."

And Tully points out that the phrase "la raza" means "the race" for a reason. "To take it in context, would you be concerned if there a white nominee who had been involved with the Ku Klux Klan or some other white supremacist-type of group?" she asks.

Tully says if a former Klansman had been nominated to the nation's highest law-enforcement position, there would be no end to the media outrage, demanding that such an individual could not possibly be the attorney general. "Yet there is no outrage at all that [Gonzales] has belonged in the past and been involved in that organization [La Raza]," she notes.

In 2001, Gonzales was asked if his own personal feelings about abortion would play a role in his decisions. He responded: "The question is, what is the law, what is the precedent, what is binding in rendering your decision. Sometimes, interpreting a statute, you may have to uphold a statute that you may find personally offensive."

If confirmed as the new AG, Gonzales would have an opportunity to apply that same philosophy to the issue of illegal immigration.

You were the first to encourage me to get the group and go for it all ;)

Yep, and you did a superb job of it - just like I knew you would! Now if FReepers who read it will take an hour or more and e-mail their political representatives to let them know we are watching them and expect them to represent US, you'll have really accomplished something wonderful. "Of the people, by the people and for the people" means US and it's high time our politicians understood that.

Where would we expect to find a majority of people who want border control (sovereignty protected) and no amnesty for those here illegally (breaking our existing laws) (approximately 75-80% of us with the same perspective) and where the government refuses to acknowledge it and continues steadfastly in it's path to do the polar opposite? Perhaps we have more in common with China than we're willing to admit.

IMHO taking money for citizenship is akin to a bribe. What other country do we know of where they sell citizenships for cash? How much international respect can we gain from that? The only advantage I see is that it's a source of income designed to make citizens believe it offsets what will be depleated from social security, welfare, and policing the third world country we have already begun to become.

Not just a member, he was on the Board of Directors of an affiliate of La Raza

"Alberto Gonzales served with distinction on the board of directors of one of NCLR’s oldest and most respected affiliates, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans in Houston, Texas," she said. "Moreover, during his tenure as White House counsel, he has been one of the most accessible members of the White House staff to NCLR and other Hispanic organizations."

In April, 2004 the illegals flipped out over 'rumors' that raids were being conducted in the Houston area. The illegals quit going to work and when it began to affect the economy, the group Alberto Gonzales was on the board of, Houston Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans, held a meeting to reassure the ILLEGALS that NO raids were being conducted. And, to help reassure them, an official from ICE showed up to say........" Joseph Webber, director of the Houston office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, made the same point. "We have not been conducting mass raids of apartment buildings. We have not been conducting raids of construction sites. We have not been conducting raids of churches, schools or other work sites, Mr. Webber said. "

"The rumors of immigration raids have had an impact on the local economy, in terms of lost production at plants and construction sites that depend on immigrant labor, and in terms of money lost at stores where immigrants shop. One restaurant chain has reportedly lost more than $100,000 because of the panic."

ANY immigration reform that intends to 'enforce' immigration laws, never will. Clearly, just the opposite is happening. Its all about the $. The economy. And right now, though I disagree, according to the media, about the only 'good' thing in Bush's favor, is the economy.

All should step back, take a deep breath, then do some analyzing.

My thoughts:
Consider, that all of this foolishness about Congressmen Jefferson, and Hastert; congressional offices being searched by the USDOJ; the unprecedented 45 day sealing of garnered criminal evidence by the executive branch; AG Gonzales all fired up now about resigning, is just plain old fashioned horse manure.   Moreover, I believe, was beautifully timed, to take public steam out of passage of S-2611, and blistering heat off of our benevolent "Bloviating Fiddling" Senators, that usurped America, American values, and our national sovereignty.

Look through the smoke and mirrors folks. Keep focused on the upcoming reconciliation hyped up brawl between HR 4437 and S-2611.   In other words, keep your eyes closely on the target.

The USDOJ, comes under the executive branch. There is nothing in the U.S. Constitution, or federal statutes, exempting federal elected officials, from probable cause, of criminal investigations.

Further, the notion of congressional offices, being sacrosanct, and off limits to being searched, is unfounded. Clearly, no person elected into public office, and that office space being owned by, and on government property, give that person, any legal right, to run a criminal enterprise out of that office.

By Congressman Jefferson ignoring a court subpoena for so long, he could be additional charged with contempt, and obstruction of justice. But of course, all of the above is being tossed to the wind, and all negotiable now, right. Ridiculous.

I was checking out Sullivan's page this morning, and then came across your post listing all the pro-4437 legislators. Once again, don't know how you do it! Anyway, here's more on Rep. John Sullivan (R-OK) from his website:

**********************************************************************************************************************

Sullivan: It is imperative for our nation to have secure borders

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sullivan released the following statement regarding the immigration legislation the Senate passed today [May 26, 2006]:

“It is imperative for our nation to have secure borders and enforcement of our interior immigration laws. In December 2005, the House passed responsible immigration reform legislation that focused on securing our borders, giving local law enforcement the tools to enforce our interior immigration laws and does not provide amnesty to the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens currently in our country. Unfortunately, the Senate immigration reform legislation provides amnesty to those who are here illegally and develops a never-ending guestworker program that also leads to amnesty.

“The Senate legislation could allow for over 100 million people to immigrate to our country legally over the next 20 years. This influx of people, largely unskilled immigrants, could cost the government at least $30 billion, which would be the largest expansion of the welfare state in 35 years.

“We owe it to the American people to secure our borders first and enforce the laws of our country.”

There is video on Sullivan's website (scroll down on right side of homepage)... I can only get audio on it, but it's inspiring to hear him speak strongly on securing the border. And he is JUST ONE of the good guys.
