Bush set for immigration speech

BUSH SET FOR IMMIGRATION SPEECH

WHITE HOUSE President Bush is getting set for a prime-time speech on
immigration tomorrow night.

Aides note the 8 p-m, Eastern Time, speech will be the president's first from the Oval Office that does not involve Iraq and the war on terrorism. And they say that reflects Bush's
"passion" on immigration.

He's speaking as the Senate is poised to clear a compromise measure including his idea for a guest worker program. However, a rival House bill is limited to a border crackdown, and meshing the two won't be easy.

Stand Up For America !

"We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...
And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

"The Border Patrol agents then turned their ire towards the President. They say his post-speech propaganda trip to Yuma, Arizona is a carefully planned PR stunt."

Merely another part of the overall dog & pony show designed to persuade conservatives he's serious about securing the borders and doesn't believe in amnesty. Maybe he really does believe conservatives are stupid.

"...any 'statements' or 'comments' from top-level Border Patrol managers should be taken with a grain of salt. They say what they're told to say. Period."

Shocker. Top level BP agents didn't get where they are by being independent thinkers or anti-illegal alien.

Denouncing a "Racist Initiative" Against Illegal Immigration

Internet publication of the Nation of Aztlán, a secessionist organization
Supports open borders

Hector Carreon of La Voz de Aztlan has characterized San Bernardino, California as a "racist" city because 2,217 of its residents signed "a racist initiative" that would criminalize and fine any landlord who rents a residence to an illegal alien. "The mean spirited anti-immigrant initiative," explains Carreon, "also goes after … day laborers or 'jornaleros' that seek work at hardware stores like Home Depots. The initiative will empower the city police to confiscate the vehicles of anyone picking up for work a day laborer. The measure will in addition punish any business that aids undocumented immigrants and attempts to establish an 'English Only' law in the city. [The measure] must … be totally smashed at the bud to send out a clear message to all xenophobes, nativists, bigots and racists."

La Voz impugns Americans' allegedly "racist attitudes against the Arab peoples." "The Arabs and Muslims have been demonized [through] years of mental programming through biased education and media propaganda," says La Voz. "This kind of [anti-Arab] mentality is the same as when us Mexicans are called 'spics,' 'beaners,' and 'wetbacks' and Black Americans are called 'niggers,' 'koons,' or 'mayates.'" The publication fiurther denounces the "perverse racists," "religious bigots with a well defined political and economic agenda," "Anglocentric xenophobes," "right wing Fundamentalist Christians," and "International Zionists" who "have launched a well funded global campaign to destroy the legacy of Islam and its contributions to world culture. … Leading the effort to demonize Islam are, of course, the International Zionists."

Some are; and some others who are taken in also think they're conservatives.

"...all the bills were written in Kennedy's office by his staff. He was dead serious and Alan Colmes did not challenge that statement."

In other words, the real Senate Majority Leader isn't Sir Frist the Spineless, but Sir Teddy of Chapaquiddick.

One of the Senators that was interviewed yesterday [from Iowa, I forgot his name my apologies] was asked about the name calling [racist etc]. His response was when they can't find facts and honesty to support their position they call names!! Same thing goes on here, if you are against this amnesty debacle you are a racist.

"Tom is the inspiration that has kept me going all these years!"

A quote from Tom Poe on the Colonization of America:

"There is an elected official in California, Gloria Vargas, who has said, "Many Mexicans are nourshing the ground in the U.S. This was once OUR land, those same lands we are conquering for OUR country, MEXICO." Seems a bit odd that we have elected officials preaching and advocating that his country, part of it, ought to go back to Mexico. Apparently there IS a movement to conquer the United States and I would wonder, Mr. Speaker, are we going to cross the line and fight for our nation, or are we going to remain asleep on a Sunday morning while the invasion takes place. The line is obviously drawn in the sand." Tom Poe

I've written my representatives, DeWine and Voinovich, to no avail. I think my emails and calls would now be better served encouraging those members of the House, though not from my state, who still have the best interest of the country at heart.

Let's give Rep. Poe a high five!!

Opinion Editorial from U.S. Representative Judge Ted Poe (TX-02)

Beaumont, TX 77702
20202 U.S. Highway 59 N., Suite 105
Humble, TX 77338
The Bottom Line
Rep. Ted Poe (TX-02)

The debate over illegal immigration has turned into a typical political tug-of-war with every bit of common sense checked at the door and the Administration trying to appease both sides of the aisle. Leave it to bureaucrats to complicate a simple issue of right and wrong. It is illegal to enter our country without permission from the United States government no matter which way you try to sell it. Bottom line: it is it is illegal to be here illegally.

While not all people entering our country are from Mexico, quiet frankly I am tired of hearing Mexico’s President, Vicente Fox, weighing in on American law and policy. I think his country, and ours for that matter, would be much better served if he spent more time weighing in on Mexico’s problems. He is not an American citizen, he does not have any more say as to how we protect our country than do the millions living here illegally. The American people find this and most of the debate on illegal immigration complete nonsense.

Let’s start with the ridiculous notion of the ‘Catch and Release’ program. What happens is Border Agents arrest illegals for entering the country illegally, and then release them with an order to return for a deportation hearing. If the suspect in question knowingly broke the law by entering our country illegally, what makes anyone think that he would obey a court order to return? Even fisherman who coined the ‘Catch and Release’ phrase, tag their catch before releasing it. There is no reason that we should allow this to continue. There are several simple solutions to housing illegals, the best one is called jail. Jail is not supposed to be a luxury hotel, it is to serve as a deterrent for future illegal behavior. Tent cities will work for quick and swift deportation, as will the 10,000 FEMA trailers sitting in Arkansas.

Let’s be honest, this new guest worker program is not for “guest” workers, it is for “illegal” workers. We don’t need another program, we already have the most generous guest worker program in the world and it has done nothing to slow the tide of illegals entering our country. This new worker is being touted a as path way to citizenship for those who have established roots here. They will be expected to pay back taxes, learn English and get at the back of the line for citizenship. It begs the question, if they have been here so long and never made the effort to legitimize their status, what makes anyone think they care to become American citizens now? If they live in a cash economy, how do we know what their back taxes are? And what is going to happen to them if they don’t learn English, pay back taxes or become Americans? Nothing, and they know it. A worker program that leads to citizenship for illegal immigrants by any other name is amnesty and I will not support amnesty in any form.

The debate over illegal immigration has many facets, but we must not lose sight over the main issue. While the debate the social and moral implications of what to do with those already illegally here continues, we as a sovereign nation must secure our borders and insist on ending incentives for people to come to our country illegally. Businesses and individuals must be held accountable. Social services, including education, must be for American citizens. If people in our country illegally don’t have the rights and privileges of citizenship they will finally be forced to abide by our laws or return to their own country. That is just the way it is.

The shooting war on Mexican border

'More firefights than in Bosnia'

At least 10 times in the last 10 weeks, U.S. law enforcement officers and soldiers have been fired upon by assailants in Mexico. But that statistic doesn't even begin to tell the story of how high tensions are running along the border. If the situation doesn't cool off, the Mexican border in 1997 could redefine the way Americans think of "a long, hot summer."

"There have been more firefights on the border in recent weeks than there have been in Bosnia," said an exasperated Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-El Cajon, before passage of a little-noticed bill last week authorizing President Clinton to send up to 10,000 troops to the Mexican border to help stop illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

The latest surge of violence began April 18, when two U.S. Customs inspectors were wounded in a gun battle at the Calexico border station. The attacker, a Mexican national, was killed by the agents. Later that day, a tunnel linking Calexico with Mexicali was closed by a bomb threat. Fifty miles to the north, an illegal alien smuggler allegedly tried to run down a Border Patrol agent. He and 25 illegal aliens in the van were arrested after a televised chase along California freeways that ended in suburban West Covina.

On May 11, Border Patrol agents and sheriff's deputies in San Diego were fired upon after a deputy tried to stop a vehicle for speeding.

On May 17, a Border Patrol agent was wounded by sniper fire from an AK-47 as he sat in his Ford Bronco near the San Ysidro border-crossing station. The shots came, according to the Border Patrol, from inside Mexico. The agent was hit in the face, and, although his injuries are not life-threatening, he is still recovering.

On May 20, a unit of Marines was fired upon by a Mexican-American on the U.S. side of the border in Texas as the soldiers provided surveillance assistance to the Borer Patrol. The Marines returned fire, killing the assailant.

On May 23, two Border Patrol agents working near Border Field State Park came under sniper fire. The agents fired 50 to 60 rounds back into Mexico. Another attack was reported the next day. At least two other gun battles between Border Patrol agents in Naco, Arizona, and people on the Mexican side of the border took place in May.

On June 1, Border Patrol agents were fired at west of the San Ysidro crossing. None of the agents were injured. Then, again, bullets were fired from Mexico at two Border Patrol agents in separate incidents June 17 and 18 near San Ysidro. Another border patrolman was killed June 14 when he fell down a ravine while pursuing suspects.

"People are getting killed along the border," said Rep Brian Bilbray during the troop deployment debate. Most Americans, though, haven't noticed.

"These shootings coming from south of the border aimed north are something that we haven't experienced until just about a month or so ago," explains Border Patrol spokesman Jim Pilkington. Also unprecedented is the type of weapon being used -- AK-47 rifles equipped with special telescopes and laser range-finders normally restricted to the Mexican army.

"There is a war going on for control of our border with Mexico," says Hunter, matter-of-factly.

Yes, and in this war, the U.S. Border Patrol is outgunned and outmanned. Agents are prohibited from using automatic weapons. But the attackers have them.

"We have said for years that you won't know you're being invaded until you try to stop it," said Glenn Spencer of Voice of Citizens Together, a grass-roots organization which has been fighting illegal immigration for the last six years. "We are going to see escalating violence at the border which will only end with a wide-ranging confrontation which, I suspect, will spread into the United States."

The troop commitment by Congress, however, is seen as a largely symbolic move, because Clinton does not approve of the idea of deploying soldiers along the border. Before the troops could be dispatched, Attorney General Janet Reno would have to request them from the secretary of defense. But that's not likely, of course. Unless she finds out that those assault weapons are being fired by Mexican "cult members."
