Bush set for immigration speech

BUSH SET FOR IMMIGRATION SPEECH

WHITE HOUSE President Bush is getting set for a prime-time speech on
immigration tomorrow night.

Aides note the 8 p-m, Eastern Time, speech will be the president's first from the Oval Office that does not involve Iraq and the war on terrorism. And they say that reflects Bush's
"passion" on immigration.

He's speaking as the Senate is poised to clear a compromise measure including his idea for a guest worker program. However, a rival House bill is limited to a border crackdown, and meshing the two won't be easy.

Stand Up For America !

"We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...
And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

HOUSTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush has long opposed making English the country's national language, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said on Friday, the day after the Senate voted to do so.

The vote came in an amendment to proposed legislation overhauling U.S. immigration law and directed the government to "preserve and enhance" the role of English. Opponents said it could affect the status of some multilingual services offered by government organizations.

Adding to the confusion, the Senate also adopted a softer amendment calling English the "unifying language" of the United States. Senators take both versions into negotiations over a final bill with the U.S. House of Representatives.

Gonzales did not directly address Bush's position on the controversial amendment because the Senate has not yet voted on the whole bill. But he said that Bush has in the past rejected such efforts.

"The president has never supported making English the national language," Gonzales said after meeting with state and local officials in Texas to discuss cooperation on enforcement of immigration laws.

He said Bush has instead long supported a concept called "English-Plus," believing that it was good to be proficient in more than one language.

"English represents freedom in our country and anybody who wants to be successful in our country has a much better chance of doing so if they speak English," Gonzales said. "It is of course a common language."

But, Gonzales said, "I don't see the need to have laws or legislation that says English is the national language."

While visiting Arizona on Thursday to press his plan to send up to 6,000 National Guard troops to the Mexican border spoke of the need to unite Americans.

"We've got to honor the great American tradition of the melting pot," Bush said. "Americans are bound together by shared ideals and appreciation of our history, of respect for our flag and ability to speak the English language."

Intervening in a recent furor over a Spanish-language version of the national anthem released by Latin pop stars, Bush said that the "Star-Spangled Banner" should be sung in English.

The United States currently has no official language and the amendment was showing signs of further inflaming an already incendiary issue, with Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada calling it "racist."

"Senator Sessions rose in favor of the Ensign amendment. The Senator said he could see no reason why a person who comes in illegally to work and steals a social security number to do it is then rewarded with social security benefits. This bill, he said, gives an entitlement to people who are not properly here. Illegal aliens do not have any legal or moral right to that social security money. Those who are unlawful should have penalties, not benefits.

Senator McCain opposed the amendment."

Senator McCain is an embarassment to this country!!

"Senator Clinton offered amendment #4072. This amendment restructured the formula for how the $2,000 legalization fee is spent. Senator Clinton explained that under the bill, 80% of the money is spent on border security and 20% is spent on administrative costs. Senator Clinton's amendment proposed taking half of the administrative portion and giving it to states and localities to pay for benefits and incarceration costs."

Take all this damn money, build the darn wall, throw out the illegals and we don't need no stinkin money to pay for incarceration and/or medical etc blah blah blah. How dense are these people?

Kingdom of the Illegals
By Paul Sperry

This month's defeat of local politicians who built the equivalent of a day-care center for illegal Hispanic immigrants in a leafy Washington, D.C., suburb was a victory not just for immigration reformers but also anti-terror watchdogs.

Angry voters in Herndon, Va., swept out their bleeding-heart mayor and two of his allies on the town council and replaced them with candidates who are not expected to renew the lease of a controversial hiring site set up to help illegal aliens find work.

Lost in all the controvery, however, is the more disturbing fact that the site -- a covered building featuring picnic tables and bathrooms -- was founded by a Muslim charity with ties to suspected Saudi-backed terror front groups. Its town operating permit won't expire until the fall of 2007, allowing the group not only time to aid and abet hundreds more illegal immigrants, but possibly recruit them.

The hiring center -- called the Herndon Official Workers Center -- is a charitable front for da'awa, or Islamic outreach to non-Muslims. Local law enforcement officials say the Saudis see new Hispanic arrivals to America as particularly ripe for conversion to Islam, and have even added an annex to their madrassa in another Washington suburb to help indoctrinate the beholden immigrants.

Long but necessary read:

Galax pastor says his son was asked to join gang VA

A Galax man says the city's recent problems with graffiti and gang tags are real.

Arturo Reyna is the pastor of a local Hispanic church. He says his 14 year-old son Luis was asked to join a gang called M-S 13. It's considered to be the world's most dangerous gang. "They told him the reason they wanted to start a gang was because they could watch their back of one another," Pastor Reyna told News-7. "My son told them that he was strong enough. He didn't need anyone else to watch his back."

I hope that you ALL have had the chance to listed to Rep. Ted Poe, R. Texas speak. He hasn't finished yet, but I must tell you, no matter how hopeless I've been feeling about this issue, he has restored my hope that the HOUSE will do the right thing.

My only wish is that he could march straight over to the senate floor and repeat the hour long talk. If there is anyway to get a transcript, will someone let me know?

This man had talked frankly without mincing words. He began with charts and a discussion of the Reconquista and Aztlan, La Raza and MEChA. That Mexico has declared war on us, but is not sending typical soldiers but sending their citizens to reconquer what they say is their land. He showed books being used in schools in california that teach children that the land belongs to Mexico. Point by point he has chastized the Senate for what they are trying to do, swat flies, he has laid out the truth like I've seen no one else do. He's praised the minutemen. He's talking about having received 4 cases of bricks to build a wall.

I'm very much impressed, but more imporatantly my hope is restored.

~blah blah

WASHINGTON — Tension over illegal immigration is contributing to a rise in hate groups and hate crimes across the nation, according to the {{{Southern Poverty Law Center.}}} It says that racist groups are using the immigration debate as a rallying cry.
