BUSH SET FOR IMMIGRATION SPEECH WHITE HOUSE President Bush is getting set for a prime-time speech on Aides note the 8 p-m, Eastern Time, speech will be the president's first from the Oval Office that does not involve Iraq and the war on terrorism. And they say that reflects Bush's He's speaking as the Senate is poised to clear a compromise measure including his idea for a guest worker program. However, a rival House bill is limited to a border crackdown, and meshing the two won't be easy. Stand Up For America ! |

The "fence" is a joke.

If it was only 12 million.
President Bush has been getting beat on since the 2000 elections by the MSM and the traitorous Dems. There's been a daily, weekly mantra, and chant of hate America and GWB, with a thin Vail of praising our troops, yet condemning the war on terror.
If this were being done during WWII, we'd still be still be fighting Hitler and Tojo. Because of the relentless beatings, the President's poll ratings ranged in the low 50s. When a few things went wrong, it didn't take much for his numbers to go South. I think, it all started with the Harriet Miers nomination, and since, there's been one thing after the other. 9-11 brought to light the vulnerability of the Southern borders, and is just now being addressed, indeed very late. All agree, the Southern Borders are way, way over due for a fix. If the Southern Borders get properly fixed, and illegal immigration too, GWB poll ratings can only go up, as I hope they would have.
One person is dead and four wounded Thursday after a group of people in a vehicle reportedly attempted to run the San Ysidro Port of Entry. All southbound lanes of the crossing were shut down, and traffic was being diverted to Otay Mesa.
The incident happened just before 3:30 p.m., according to San Diego police. Federal agents were chasing a black Dodge Durango for unknown reasons.
The driver of the SUV stopped just short of the border after hitting a barrier. Federal agents then approached the car and told the occupants to get out, but when they didn't and the driver attempted to keep driving, agents opened fire.
SDPD homicide detectives were on the scene investigating the incident.
Traffic in the area was brought to a halt, and is expected to be delayed at least into early evening.

Like I said, you are quick!!
Hugs!
That was mentioned by more than one person on the shows I watched tonight -- all started with Miers and seems they have been off their footing since.
For some reason, I am not laughing....
:(
I don't have any real sources on the story yet, but skuttlebut is the vehicle was near the Otay Mesa Port of entry (POE) (south east of San Diego) and might have just entered the US there from Mexico (that part is hazy) the vehicle then picked up 4 suspected illegal aliens and was headed westound when Border Patrol tried to stop it apparently having seen them load the aliens. The vehicle continued westbound then southbound to the San Ysidro POE(southern part of SD) which is about 7 miles from the Otay Mesa POE.
When attempting to enter Mexico and escape apprehension the vehicle was surrounded by Law enforcement and the driver would not get out, They broke the windows and the driver was shot and killed and others in the vehicle were injured by broken glass. One report was one inspector had either been hit by the vehicle or fell and then the shots were fired.

Rush hour here starts around 3;30 pm and southbound I-5 into Mexico/southern San Diego was backed up more than 4 miles with traffic diverted eastbound, stop and go...it was quite a mess getting home today, but any good native California driver knows how to change lanes and leave the freeway on a seconds notice..lol..
Thanks to Skip
Busy San Diego border crossing shut following fatal shooting
18 MAY 2006
SAN DIEGO - A busy U.S-Mexico border crossing was shut down Thursday after federal authorities shot and killed the driver of a car headed for Mexico, officials said.
The shooting occurred on southbound Interstate 5 around 3:30 p.m. about 50 feet north of the San Ysidro Port of Entry, the world's busiest border crossing, which links Tijuana, Mexico with San Diego.
Officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection were attempting to stop the vehicle, which was under surveillance for suspected migrant smuggling.
The driver, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds, said Maurice Luque, a spokesman for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
In a scene broadcast live by TV news helicopters, a black sport-utility vehicle sat in the middle of the roadway with a shattered driver's side window.
There were no immediate reports of any other injuries. It was unclear whether the vehicle was carrying any passengers.
The California Highway Patrol sealed off southbound access to the border and rush-hour traffic backed up for more than a mile.
