BUSH SET FOR IMMIGRATION SPEECH WHITE HOUSE President Bush is getting set for a prime-time speech on immigration tomorrow night. Aides note the 8 p-m, Eastern Time, speech will be the president's first from the Oval Office that does not involve Iraq and the war on terrorism. And they say that reflects Bush's "passion" on immigration. He's speaking as the Senate is poised to clear a compromise measure including his idea for a guest worker program. However, a rival House bill is limited to a border crackdown, and meshing the two won't be easy. Stand Up For America !

Person shot dead at US border

US authorities shot dead a person apparently trying to illegally cross into the United States from Mexico, police said.

The victim was apparently in a car trying to drive past the San Ysidro border control post in southern California when border patrol officers fired, Gary Hassen, a spokesman for nearby San Diego police, said.

The San Ysidro post, between the Mexican city of Tijuana and San Diego, is one of the busiest in the world, with 14 million cars and 40 million people crossing into the United States every year.

The shooting comes amid a heated debate in the US over illegal immigration from Mexico.

No. I'd say his staff is scrambling in the background to do damage control. But what do I know?

I was stunned and I think H&C were both stunned as well.. and Tancredo, you could tell, actually enjoyed dropping that bomb on everyone.

Someone else did point out tonight, I think on Larry King, that the things that has consisently gotten the President into the most trouble with his base has been going along with Kennedy on things like No Child Left Behind and now Immigration.

Latest I saw on the NG, they are not going to be patrolling for illegals but doing something else... who knows what?

~LOL~ Anderson's camera's just showed illegals waking back and forth in the fence that is on the beach at the border.. he was showing, the other night, how the slats are so far apart (I think this was to appease enviros who held it up for a long time) that people can step right through it.

Bombshell tonight on H&C. According to Tom Tancredo it doesn't matter whose name (in the Senate) is on the Bill -- Hagel-Martinez, Kennedy-McCain, etc... he said all the bills were written in Kennedy's office by his staff. He was dead serious and Alan Colmes did not challenge that statement.
