That law is an act "to make clear a telecommunications carrier's duty to cooperate in the interception of communications for law enforcement purposes, and for other purposes." The act made clear that a court order isn't the only lawful way of obtaining call information, saying, "A telecommunications carrier shall ensure that any interception of communications or access to call-identifying information effected within its switching premises can be activated only in accordance with a court order or other lawful authorization."

The law that President Clinton signed into law and that was approved by voice votes in 1994 by a Democrat-majority House and a Democrat-majority Senate not only made clear the phone companies' "duty" to cooperate, it authorized $500 million in taxpayer funds to reimburse the phone companies for equipment "enabling the government, pursuant to a court order or other lawful authorization, to access call-identifying information that is reasonably available to the carrier."

Thank you! I learn more on this weekly thread and FR than anywhere else.

FNS's Brit did get a smack down on Juan, but it was in a more serious tone today. To Juan's sarcastic comment, Brit lumped Juan with the people who are not serious about the war on terror, and let Juan know this is more serious than Juan or the leftist media portrays it. Good stuff if you get to see it.

Okay. I'm done. Other stuff on the menu now....

Newt has always known he would not be elected president. He's more interested in pushing his issues.

We were just talking about Rosie on The View this morning with my mom (hubby used to work at The View) and mom made the point that Rosie had a lot of viewers when she had her show. Mr.FF said the key word is "had" because while she did her talk show, she feigned that niceness and afterward she's been the round-mound-of-sound. It'll be interesting to see the meltdown that might be coming!

Newt is many ways great.

However, I think he's gotten a free pass since being out of office because it's harder to remmber what he's been for than what, say President Bush has been for. That makes it easy for him to frame himself as the de facto conservative against President Bush, the moderate conservative who's lost his way.

But Newt has no leg to stand on as far as calling the President out for a lack of "fiscal conservatism." It was Newt who urged the President to push the Prescription benefits bill http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1025610/posts

Maybe he had a good reason for doing so, but the way he talks about how President Bush needs to get back to smaller givernment principles, you'd never know he encouraged the President's largest expansion of government and the one most controversial with the base.

His daughter's wedding problems were why he dropped out, before he came back in.

I had heard somewhere (so long ago that I don't remember where) that part of the reason why he disliked 41 was because he did not have free access to the WH.

Its almost uncanny I hear something on FOX or read on FR and then voila its the next issue in Britain or vice versa.

The issues both our countries face are so similar it is amazing.

Not to mention downright disgusting material broadcast (for ratings and the spread of liberalism but couched) in the interest of information sharing, caring and helping the populace be better informed citizens...

It is the SMS...Short Memory Syndrome.

Affects libs all the time, Dems most of the time, Republicans at election time.

"I'm not too thrilled about putting the National Guard on the border either, especially if they are unarmed or standing around with empty M-16's"

And don't think for one minute that Schumker & Hellary don't realize this law even though they are yapping and pushing for more enforcement by the military

The Posse Comitatus Act
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act

(snip)
It generally prohibits Federal military personnel and units of the United States National Guard under Federal authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within the United States, except where expressly authorized by the Constitution or Congress. The Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act substantially limit the powers of the Federal government to use the military for law enforcement.

Evidently the illustrious Julian knows nothing of our military men and women. He doesn't know the rigors they must go through to become a member of our military. He doesn't know how many "wash out" of basic training. He doesn't know the stamina and tenacity it takes to do some of the "chores" our military must pass to protect this country.

The critreria an enlistee far exceeds the criteria of the average blue colar employee in the US. For example, an enlistee must have the following charastics, he or she must be a h.s. graduate, physically fit, high moral character, cannot have a criminal record, must demonstrate fiscal responsibility, and cannot have a history of drug use or dwi.

Further, after an individual completes his or her enlistment and decides to end their military career, they are qualified in many fields of endeavor and are in great demand.
