D. QUINN MILLS is worried. The respected Albert J. Weatherhead, Jr. Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School fears that America may be headed toward calamity.
Convinced that two straight elections which he characterizes as "tied and disputed" have gone to the Republicans and that good-faithed, but fatigued, Democrats have "exhausted all other legal options," Mills cautions that a third straight cliffhanger marred by Republican skullduggery could well result in a civil war. By which he means a real, honest-to-goodness Civil War, except this time around it won't be the Blue and the Gray but the Blue and the Red. To warn America about this gathering storm, Mills has written a novel titled Blue! Red! (available online here) and is conducting a sparsely attended online seminar on the subject for the Harvard community.
An often compelling read about a polarized electorate heading to explosion over a contested presidential election in 2008, Blue! Red! nevertheless sometimes veers into the realm of the unintentionally hilarious.

Walking around Harvard Yard, however, one may get a different sense. Sometimes it must seem like Paris in 1789 with all the politically inspired fury sprouting up among the lattes. But if Harvard professors want to storm the Bastille--or start a civil war--they'll have to do it themselves. And that's not very likely. After all, they don't even want Army recruiters on campus.
The second American civil war will not come as the result of an election, rather it will be the response to an action that is so ideologically incompatible to one side or the other they simply can't live with it. Like President Hillary Clinton ordering the nationalization of all private property and the confiscation of all guns.
Almost makes me wish for another cliffhanger.
Ahhh wonder how long this thread will last ;)
Bring it on...the Reds have all the guns, and they know how to use them.
Harvard is really falling apart. I think Summers might have been their last chance, and they threw him under the bus.
But the San Francisco Shock Troops will scratch your eyes out, Honey!
Ol' "DQ" Mills is dreaming - this is pure nonsense!
He should worry. If traitors like him push their minority views in the face of the will of the majority -- to the point where they attempt to dissolve the Union -- they will find themselves served the same way the last group that tried it did.
But if he wants to invite a rewrite of "Marching Through Georgia" as "Marching Through Blue States," God bless him.
The Red States have the military.
The Red States have the population trained in arms.
The Red States, frankly, have the industry today.
The Red States have the growing population.
The Red States have the central position.
Bring. It. ON!
It would be no contest.

It isn't a civil war that is coming. Its a spiritual war.
I see the polarization taking place in my own community. The lack of common ground is getting less and less. The next generation is making this change even more noticeable.
My children and many of their friends are not embarrased to be taking stands that are biblical based while the culture as a whole moves farther away from bible principles.
Ha! If California decided to seceed and form a new socialist country would you really fight to keep them? Or just say to heck with them, good luck to them, and build a really tall fence along it's border. Me too!
We have all the guns.
This tripe precisely illustrates how and why the Ivy League is now more of a burden than asset to Americans.
Politics, since the Clintons contaminated it, has become very different from what it used to be.
The 2000 and 2004 elections saw the losers erupt into an "instant seethe and rage" mode, the likes of which I have never seen.
I'll place my anti-Clinton credentials up against anyone else's on this site, and yet, it took me months, more like a year, when he first slithered into the White House to develop a dislike for the man. And it took actual events to provoke it.
The Other Side's "We Hate Boosh! And you should, too!" is unlike anything I've seen. And worse, I don't think it is a "just limited to Mr. Bush" phenomena, either. It seem to focus on any person or group the Other Side dislikes, opposes, or takes exception to.
It bodes ill for governing the country if it persists.
I would just make sure that they took Oregon and Washington State with them.
That way the Dems lose 6 Senate seats and probably 30 House seats.
But they have all the street thugs and gang bangers. Remember the Reginald Denny incident?
The moron better not hope for a civil war. He'd be dead.
His food, water and power aren't produced in the cities where most of the blue state people live.
And there's that little issue of weapons...
Most large blue state cities have banned guns. The rest of us are armed.
Typical egghead - totally clueless of reality.
