Notice how now the NG is stretched too thin and this is a bad idea too. Nothing he does is right by them until he wants electric fences and machine gun towers with concentration camps and ovens. When you agree to that you are a "CONSERVATIVE"!

stable, dependable and honest

OK. Scroll back through these threads and tell me that all of the hysteria and name calling strikes you as "stable."

Then you can go through them again to look at all of the people who are threatening to sit out the election or go third-party, and tell me how that equates to "dependable."

Finally, look at all of the posts who accuse the President as caring more about Mexico than the United States, aiding and abbeting illegals, and going for blanket amnesty, and tell me how that becomes "honest."

Hundreds of people aren't posting on these threads for fear of being labeled open border lovers, and worse.

Right...

And how many of them have been banned? Let's compare lists.

I'm waiting until I hear the speech to pass judgement on the speech, rumors coming out make me nervous about what will be said about this situation. I don't hold out a lot of hope that he's changed his position. I never said he lied, because he has always said what he wants as far as immigration is concerned, which is why the illegals started streaming in here right after the 2000 election.

My hope has always been our representatives would stand up to him on this issue that I, personally, feel he is wrong on. In my case, two of my three representatives are in the right territory, John McCain is another story.

I have supported (and still do) 99% of what our President has done while in office, this is about the only thing I have not supported from the very beginning.

I live in a border state and it is costing everyone in our state millions of dollars, pushing our emergency rooms beyond capacity (financial and otherwise), our schools are failing miserably because so much money is going into billingual education and the classrooms are over burdened, our prisons and jails are overburdened with a large population being illegal immigrants...our crime rate, in our fairly small town, has exploded with a large portion coming from illegals who are working for the local luxury boat manufacturers. I just cannot support amnesty for illegals, and anyway you cut it, this plan of McCain/Kennedy the President is supporting, is amnesty.

I was so thrilled to see them holding employers responsible and then quickly disappointed when I saw they had done a catch and release.

Do you know how many have been attacked mercilessly, even when in agreement on the issue, just because we don't hate the President?

Attacked? Hate? I doubt it. I have never seen anyone use the word hate. You just can't stand the idea that anyone would disagree with or criticize Bush on any subject.

I agree. I think there is a problem with illegal immigration, but I honestly don't think that most "conservatives" are in favor of extermination camps, although if you read FR, that's what you'd think. (Personally, I believe many of the extremists are DUers parodying conservatives, and some of us are dumb enough to bite).

Pray for him indeed!

I have heard that line perhaps 100 times. They are incapable of any sort of discussion on this issue only raw hatred.

It comes from the hatebush crowd that have no answer when their hatred is reflected back at them...sissy! My guess is that at least 1/3-1/2 of these "borderguards" are seminar posters.

Until they start building the wall it's just smoke and mirrors

Likely true unfortunately. Amnesty appears to be the priority for these folks - until that's off the table, it is hard to take enforcement promises seriously.

"Amnesty now and enforcement later" - why do Americans keep buying that snake oil?

Come on, we need to be fair - you are not seriously suggesting that conservatives only began expressing concern about immigration "a month or two ago?" And then did you really say that within weeks the President did "the very action we have been requested?"

So you're going to sit there and expect me to believe that ever since Bush was elected, this place has been All Immigration All The Time the way it's been since the MSM brought up this topic a month or two ago?

So when Florida happened, 9-11, Afghanistan, Iraq, the mid-term elections, 2004...all through those years, this place had daily threads about Bush immigration stance? I don't mean the occassional grumble, I'm asking if you really want me to believe that this topic has been the subject of numbers of threads on a daily basis since the 2000 election?

Because I don't. Because it hasn't been.

This subject popped up now and then, but we sure didn't have to push it off to the side to talk Schiavvo 24/7, ebcause it was never there to push aside. I don't know which FR YOU go to, but until the last few weeks, the one I go to hasn't had me thinking "Sheesh, not ANOTHER immigration thread!"

To a handful of people it's their #1 issue...until now. Reading this place since Dubai you'd think the url changed to some Immigration Only site.

Am I seriously suggesting that conservatives only began expressing concern about immigration a month or two ago? Not all, but I'd say 90% of those who are bitching and moaning about it here sure have come late to the party, and they're the ones who seem to have most attitude about it, aka "posing". And it's ruining this place.

And what's their reaction when Bush does what you cannot deny is the #1 request made of him regarding this issue--guarding the border? "Whhaaaaaaaaaa! He isn't making all those bad aliens go away!" Because of course there was never a single illegal in this country until W got elected (by whom? where were all you "No one with his position will get MY vote!" in 2000 and 2004? Because he's been consistent with his position on this), and God knows it's ONLY his fault, no one else's.

So when you ask "Do you remember the amnesty effort? Do you remember years of complaints?" I have to say that's pretty weak tea--"years of complaints" from who, one or two FReepers who'd occassionally post? Because if you haven't noticed that this issue only popped up as THE issue in the last couple of months, I have to wonder where you've been, 'cause it hasn't been around here.

I have a serious question. If the guest worker program is amnesty, then what do you want the President to do?

It seems to me that what you want is all of those people GONE. Perhaps I am reading your post wrong, but if all of those were legals, would you be happy?

I am trying to understand what people want. I am not being clever or trying to bait you, but I seriously don't know.

So, please explain to me what you think should be done.

Twice now you've come with this "concentration camps and ovens" wildly incendiary rhetoric. And just a few posts back, you warned somebody -- for reasons completely obscure to me -- that he was in danger of getting zotted.

You are completely over-the-top, inflamatory, and attempting to intimidate.

You are out of control, and you, yourself, disrupting civil exchange. Bigtime.

Actually, we don't need any new laws, only need the existing laws enforced by the people we pay to enforce them. They need to start holding employers to the law that was passed in 1986. If they do, the problem could turn around because if they can't get jobs they can't afford to stay here.

I'm very concerned about the huge influx of young children and pregnant women. That is an immediate drain on Medicaid...

"But he does seem to be waking up, doesn't he?"

After his polls went into the toilet and civil war within the party was threatened.

Now lets see him make good on taking real action to end this nonsense now. If he's playing for the votes instead of saving a culture and way of life he's gonna lose.

What does that have to do with anything?

People aren't posting because they don't want to be drilled and mocked for their opinions anymore.

"most of these border folks act like this issue came up over night and is all Bush's fault."

Tired talking point. It's been beat to death and is false.

Did you know that employers are prohibited by law from verifying social security numbers? It is "discrimination by national origin" enacted during the Clinton administration.

And did you know that employers can't be prosecuted for hiring illegals if they were fooled by fraudulent papers (which they couldn't verify)? Again, a law passed in the 90's.

So, all of the talk about "enforcing the law" is empty when the LAWS make it easier for illegals to be employed.

What civil exchange are you possibly talking about. These threads are anything but civil. Your idea of civility is I hate Bush more than you do, no I hate him more, no I hate him more.

The zot comment was because someone dared to ask a serious reasoned question like, where are you going to find the workers after you deport them? Notice no answers whatsoever after 600 posts?

I am just questioning the racism dripping from these posters if you weren't so dense.
