Headline only so far...
>>Reminds me of the vacations in the big van..."you stay on your side of the seat."<<
"He's looking at me again, Mom make him stop singing" LOL
Keep discounting the 70%+ who want something done about border enforcement as malcontented whiners. If Bush was just 1/2 as interested about illegal aliens invading our country as he is on the WoT, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
Rather, as I've pointed out on other threads, while he has been willing to press constitutional boundries with the NSA programs, we've haven't seen anything close to his true exercise of power regarding the borders.
Where are the EOs directing his various agencies to conform to existing laws (see FDIC enabling banks to lend to illegal immigrants)? What about emergency engagement of joint fed-state programs to search/interdict/hold illegals?
Can't do it you say? Why did he do all that and more for the WoT? Lack of action is indicative of position. We know where he stands - if he doesn't get hopping, he'll be in the dock next year at the hands of the Dems.
Bingo..Amazing how this escapes some folks...especially our President and Congress. Deporting 20 million people is un-necessary. They will beat a path to Mexico if they lose their free ride.
LOL. I love irony.
He's WAY behind on this, but to deny that this means anything is to care more about griping than solving the problem. JMO.
btw, if and when the President says he will do this, he WILL do this.
The Israelis are hunting and KILLING people whom they do not want in their Country. The wall is there for other reasons outside of immigration. Mainly suicide bombers.
Apples and oranges bud -
I have been completely confused by his position from day one, and have wondered why he has seemed to be asleep at the switch on something so important.
But he does seem to be waking up, doesn't he? I think we should flood the White House with WTG's! and encouragement to do this and more.

Thanks for that correction. But you're right in agreeing that it would never survive lawsuits claiming "cruel or unusual punishment". Not cruel, but most assuredly unusual.
It wouldn't matter anyway. The prisons are full. Some other solution will be needed and the President is taking the first step shoring up border control.
You might have a better understanding of the situation if your hypothetical husband had only mowed half the yard while saying he had done it all; the trash was not only still in the kitchen, but in every room of the house, and the kitchen was dirtier than when he started cleaning it. And to top that off, the wife was only asking him to take out the trash and close the door to begin with.
If it's not costing the State of CA .. then why did the people vote for prop 187 ??
Do you think illegal immigrants coming to this country today take jobs away from American citizens, or do they mostly take jobs Americans don't want?" |

"Some people favor building a 700-mile-long fence along the U.S.-Mexico border because they say it would stop illegal immigrants from crossing the border into the U.S. Other people oppose the 700-mile-long fence because they say it would cost too much money and people would still find a way to get around it. "I'm going to describe a portion of a possible new immigration law, which also would include tighter border security. This law would deal with immigrants who are here illegally in three ways, depending on how long they have been in the United States. Those who have been here for more than five years would be allowed to continue to work here for six years, and then would be allowed to apply for permanent citizenship. Those who have been here for two to five years would be required to go to a legal border entry point and register sometime in the next three years, and would then be able to return to work. Those who have been here for less than two years would be required to return to their home country and apply for entry into the United States through the normal legal channels. "Thinking about the portion of a possible immigration law I just described, would you favor or oppose this?" |

No doubt. I'm sure that there would end up being so many holes and weak points it wouldn't be worth it. But it seems to me that building the fence is one of those "jobs Americans won't do".
That's what I'm afraid of, this is for show to get the bill passed.
There is a solution to this mess .. but it would also involve some compromise
Mention that word to a few around here and it totally freaks some out .. they would rather do nothing at all then compromise
it will be a fire-storm if that is the case.
I have done no such thing...........EVER.
The majority of freepers care very deeply about this subject and know that something major and rapid needs to be done.
I am referring only to the perpetually angry, Bush-hating minority who have done their level best to destroy this forum and to hijack the issue from people who really want it solved by posting garbage on every thread on this forum.
They are the minority, but they are 'loud' and obnoxious.
(See my above post about how I feel about the President's insufficient action in this matter).
I'll volenteer. And I would work on it cheaper than any illegal would.
Ya know Kelly-dear, you are approaching shrill...Why don't you just take a little break and clear your mind. Then maybe you won't feel it's neccessary to insult those you disagree with.
