You can tell who is who on this thread...who really cares about getting something done, and who just wants to gripe.

Keep discounting the 70%+ who want something done about border enforcement as malcontented whiners. If Bush was just 1/2 as interested about illegal aliens invading our country as he is on the WoT, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Rather, as I've pointed out on other threads, while he has been willing to press constitutional boundries with the NSA programs, we've haven't seen anything close to his true exercise of power regarding the borders.

Where are the EOs directing his various agencies to conform to existing laws (see FDIC enabling banks to lend to illegal immigrants)? What about emergency engagement of joint fed-state programs to search/interdict/hold illegals?

Can't do it you say? Why did he do all that and more for the WoT? Lack of action is indicative of position. We know where he stands - if he doesn't get hopping, he'll be in the dock next year at the hands of the Dems.

Bingo..Amazing how this escapes some folks...especially our President and Congress. Deporting 20 million people is un-necessary. They will beat a path to Mexico if they lose their free ride.

Not yet; despite the efforts of the open border elitists and their cheerleaders

LOL. I love irony.

I'm not expecting ANYone to 'give the President a pass.' I'd like to see more of, "Well, good........it's a start" than, "It's a lie.....the President is lying to us. This means nothing."

He's WAY behind on this, but to deny that this means anything is to care more about griping than solving the problem. JMO.

try selling that line of BS to the Israelis!

The Israelis are hunting and KILLING people whom they do not want in their Country. The wall is there for other reasons outside of immigration. Mainly suicide bombers.

I know that some of you have lost respect for him about this issue.

I have been completely confused by his position from day one, and have wondered why he has seemed to be asleep at the switch on something so important.

But he does seem to be waking up, doesn't he? I think we should flood the White House with WTG's! and encouragement to do this and more.

Thanks for that correction. But you're right in agreeing that it would never survive lawsuits claiming "cruel or unusual punishment". Not cruel, but most assuredly unusual.

It wouldn't matter anyway. The prisons are full. Some other solution will be needed and the President is taking the first step shoring up border control.

You might have a better understanding of the situation if your hypothetical husband had only mowed half the yard while saying he had done it all; the trash was not only still in the kitchen, but in every room of the house, and the kitchen was dirtier than when he started cleaning it. And to top that off, the wife was only asking him to take out the trash and close the door to begin with.

Do you think illegal immigrants coming to this country today take jobs away from American citizens, or do they mostly take jobs Americans don't want?"

This law would deal with immigrants who are here illegally in three ways, depending on how long they have been in the United States. Those who have been here for more than five years would be allowed to continue to work here for six years, and then would be allowed to apply for permanent citizenship. Those who have been here for two to five years would be required to go to a legal border entry point and register sometime in the next three years, and would then be able to return to work. Those who have been here for less than two years would be required to return to their home country and apply for entry into the United States through the normal legal channels.

Having captured illegals build the fence would also create the same problems the germans had when they had forced prisoner labor in munition factories. Funny how so many of those munitions where duds.

No doubt. I'm sure that there would end up being so many holes and weak points it wouldn't be worth it. But it seems to me that building the fence is one of those "jobs Americans won't do".

There is a solution to this mess .. but it would also involve some compromise

Mention that word to a few around here and it totally freaks some out .. they would rather do nothing at all then compromise

I have done no such thing...........EVER.

The majority of freepers care very deeply about this subject and know that something major and rapid needs to be done.

I am referring only to the perpetually angry, Bush-hating minority who have done their level best to destroy this forum and to hijack the issue from people who really want it solved by posting garbage on every thread on this forum.

They are the minority, but they are 'loud' and obnoxious.

(See my above post about how I feel about the President's insufficient action in this matter).

Wrong on a bunch of accounts.
A - The Great Wall of China didn't stop The Mongols or the Manchurians from invading China. The Chinese would have been better served by building armies instead of walls.

B - I live in NORTHERN VIRGINIA. We have a huge immigrant population, mostly from Central America. No one in their right mind who knows anything at all about this area of the state would think that illegal immigration isn't a major problem for social services, the police and schools here. Day laborers are a huge issue in this area because of all the construction and renovation. MS13 is very active here. You simply do not not know the situation.

C - It wouldn't matter where I live, I'm an American. I love this country and I want to see it safe and secure. It is my business; I do have a dog in the fight. I want illegal immigration ended.

D - If the wall was going to be paid for by state taxes from CA, TX, NM and AZ without any of MY FEDERAL TAXES, then I would agree that it is none of my business how your state spends your money. Is that the case or are you spending my money and telling me I have no say in how it should be done?

Ya know Kelly-dear, you are approaching shrill...Why don't you just take a little break and clear your mind. Then maybe you won't feel it's neccessary to insult those you disagree with.
