I agree. Remember the controversy a few weeks back when a talk host said "it would be a great coon" when he (allegedly) meant to say "coup"? I posted it on a non-political newsgroup (for
fans of cartoons) and immediately got moonbats saying that Condi is eeeeeeeeeeevil...

BC website: "Steve writes about chocolate and modern romantic disaster..."

How will we ever get along without his contributions to the national discourse?

ADJUNCT professor. Quite a different kettle of fish from a tenured full time professor.

Adjuncts are drawn from the local population who happen to have a degree in something useful and are willing to teach a class or two just for fun.

The pay is minimal - more of a token than anything else. It doesn't even cover your gas money if you live more than a couple of miles from campus. And it certainly doesn't cover all the work you do if you take the job seriously -- reading and grading papers thoughtfully and writing helpful comments for the students.

I used to be an adjunct at my law school. I eventually stopped because it took too much time from my regular job to do it right. A lot of people who want the title on their resume take the job and then don't do the work or do a sloppy job.

I am writing my comment after reading the first 47.

Thank you to the people who put up quotes and letters from the BC people. I read them all.

Not once is Secretary of State Rice's title of Doctor used.
Dr. Rice's own education and academic career are splendid examples for students and faculty alike, and not one of these idiots can get past there "Hate Bush" mentality. Then again, they never bother to use President Bush's title, either.

increasingly hypocritical [snip] For example, most attempts by prochoice or gay-rights groups to organize in an official capacity have been shut down. Now [a person] responsible for a war denounced by the Church [snip] hypocrisy.

CHRISTINA

Dear Christina,
Abortion is a mortal sin, sodony is a sin no bible based church will condone sin. A nation figthing at war after being attacked is not a sinful, it leaders are not commiting a sin by choising to fight. Maybe "the church" does not like the war, what chruch does, but fighting a war is not a sin. Simple as that, no hypocrisy here.

Now wait a minute. When I was having dinner with several college English professors a couple of months ago, they unanimously agreed that Condi is so stupid that she willingly reads speeches written for her by the evil Bush people, and that she does a terrible job of reading the speeches. They also saw fit to make fun of her hair style.

So, which is it? Is she so stupid that she doesn't realize that she's being used by the evil Republicans, or is she a clever liar?

All this spouting from "academics" makes me dizzy.

The key here is "Adjunct Professor". Means he was a semester-to-semester or a part time hire at best. He was not tenure track, had no security, was headed to no security and gave up little. Not exactly like the Dean of the Faculty resigning.

>>BC website: "Steve writes about chocolate

"My latest novel is about the Almond Joy!"

From his site: ""I got a real sugar rush and cluster headache reading this bittersweet book by Steve Almond-joy, the sugar daddy himself. I won't sugar coat it-this book is one sweet treat." — Amy Sedaris, actress and comedienne; star of "Strangers With Candy""

"...inconsistent with the broader humanistic values of the university and the Catholic and Jesuit traditions from which those values derive."

I wonder if Steve Almond is even a Catholic, or if that was a convenient line to use.

When it comes to tolerance, diversity and a free exchange of opposing ideas, liberals talk the talk....but they don't walk the walk.

Rice should speak at every college if it makes one reactionary quit at each school!!

Just sent this email to the good professor.

Why are you leaving? By leaving you are just proving that you are in fact not liberal or open minded at all, that you are in fact very closed minded and hypocritical. No doubt it can be said of you, that if Madelline Allbright was to come to campus to speak you would have no problem. But yet she was a key part of an administration that when it wasn't lying to Federal Grand Juries, it was concealing the fact that it had over 700 FBI files on private American citizens, it was deceiving us into thinking that intervening in Kosovo, Samalia and Bosnia were important to American security. Oh sure we also went in for humanitarian reasons, but can't the same thing be said about going into Iraq? Or would you just say to the Iraqis being fed alive into wood shredding machines, "tough"?

Sir you do a dishonor to your profession.
