It doesn't matter what the Senate or House pass or what the President signs.
The problem has been, is, and will continue to be --- enforcement, or lack thereof.
If they would enforce the existing laws, they wouldn't need new ones.
If the new one doesn't include mandatory enforcement, it will be nothing more than the 1986 amnesty, and in 5 years we will have an every greater illegals problem.
What we need from Washington is solutions. Not more laws, not more plans, not more committees, not more speeches. We need solutions. We need action. So far, on the Maricopa County Sheriff seems to be the only one with the cajones to do something [and his efforts will be curtailed soon, in all probability].

LOL! Loved it. ;)
Methinks Tony Snow's fingerprints are on this. Let's hope this goes well. :)

I moved to La-La Land in 1983 because of a job and then school. I never liked it there. When I had the chance, I purposely moved to Virginia from Los Angeles in 1993 to escape the Mexican gangs, graffitti, diversity-kow-towing socialist-liberal politicians, crime, carjackings, over-crowding, and general mayhem exhibited by the Southern California area as it rapidly decended into a Third-World abyss.
Addressing this problem is at least 13 years too late.........maybe 23 years too late!

Actually, I found Dane's comment quite amusing and possessing more content than yours.
Then again, I don't belong to the perpetually pissed off posse.

He also said those who have broken American law the longest, for five years, will be allowed to stay. Those who've broken American law less than five years will be sent back. These people will number in the millions. Do you believe he'll send them back?

Let's see, what am I supposed to say? Oh yea.... You shouldn't have made the switch to boxers.... They just don't twist well. ;-)
Perhaps you might seem tougher if you said "build a wall out of tanks and 'copters!"

I was reminded last night that the same people that defend this President over the immigration issue were the same ones willing to fight to the death to keep Harriet Miers.
They will agree with him no matter the issue, but that is okay, they are entitled to that opinion.
I am trying not to get my hopes up too high for Monday night but I hope he speaks to his base because the elections get closer everyday.

I hope it will be on the radio ... I don't have TV.
You can catch it here on the "Live Thread"
that will probably start at noon on Sunday.
Live threads are like the Pre-Pre-Pre-Pre
game show to the Super Bowl.
Plus you get all the in depth anal-a-sis
that goes with the speech.

HERE IT IS
Bush to Speak About Immigration on Monday
WASHINGTON - President Bush plans to address the nation Monday night on the immigration debate, trying to build momentum for legislation that could provide millions of illegal immigrants a chance to become American citizens.
The White House said it was seeking time from television networks for the president's remarks.
"This is crunch time," Tony Snow, the new White House press secretary said Friday at his first off-camera, or informal, briefing.
On Thursday, Senate leaders reached a deal to revive a broad immigration bill that had appeared doomed just several weeks ago.
Key to the agreement is who will be negotiating a compromise with the House, which last December passed an enforcement-only bill that would subject the estimated 11 million to 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States to felony charges as well as deportation.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said the Senate will send 14 Republicans and 12 Democrats to negotiate with the House, with seven of the Republicans and five Democrats coming from the Judiciary Committee. The remaining seven Republicans will be chosen by Frist and remaining seven Democrats chosen by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

Do you suppose any other MSM will cover the speech besides FOX NEWS?
You know this isn't really important to the MSM unless there are demonstrations or high speed car chases.

If this is another feeble effort to justify amnesty, he is just digging a big hole for both him and the republicans that are trying to be reelected this fall. I fear this president is brain dead. According to Fox News it was the democrat senators that were demanding that he go on national TV to sell their new amnesty program. They know that this will just bury the republicans in the Fall.

I wonder if many have stopped to think just how few of these people will actually find an employer who is willing to stand up and register for them and say that they mean to employ them for six years. Sounds like an excellent screening mechanism to me. You want to make it stiffer? Make them buy health insrance as a condition. Everyone else leave now!
To: Sacajaweau
If they can't cross because of a wall, they'll dig under the wall. They dig drug tunnels all the time.
And they will just dig virtual tunnels under that virtual wall some in Washington suggest building.
