Thinking of Throwing a Tantrum in November?
Shameless Vanity | 5-11-06 | Burr5

Posted on 05/11/2006 8:25:42 PM PDT by Burr5

There has been a rising tide of opinion expressed these last few days on Talk Radio regarding the impulse to vote against Republicans in the upcoming congressional election in order to punish them for their whorish pandering to illegal aliens, their fiscal irresponsibility, and their general disregard of the demands of the conservative base. I have heard echoes of this on Rush Limbaugh, Mike Gallagher, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Rielly.

We should be worried about this attitude. Especially those of us who remember 1992. In George H.W. Bush's second presidential attempt, a conservative rebellion (over tax policy) and the insurgent candidacy of a purported "economic conservative" (Ross Perot), resulted in the election of the most venal, irresponsible, demogogic criminal in the history of American politics. 43% of the electorate was enough to give us eight years of Clinton.

So would sitting this one out, or voting for a Libertarian get us closer to where we want to be? Everyone realizes that a conservative temper tantrum at the polls will only serve to grant power to the Democrats. Would this "teach the Republicans a lesson"?

Perhaps. But where would we be then? We are at war. The Democrats believe the war is Bush's fault. 9-11 was an aberation. It will not happen again even if we don't listen in on Al-Qaeda's phone conversations. We will be safe if we pull out of Iraq. There will NEVER be a justification for bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. There will be no more war for oil, and yet the Caribou in ANWR will still be safe from the predations of Exxon-Mobil.

Domestically, we can expect the likes of Charles Rangle and Ron "Red" Dellums to hold the reins of power in the House of Representatives. The Bush economy will not be destroyed; things will simply become more "fair" for women and minorities.

And, of course, the great gains we are making in the corrupt, tyrannical judiciary will come to a screeching halt. If you're alright with the "right" of irresponsible young women to hire doctors to shove a metal implement into the skull of their partially born babies, and to have them crack open the skulll, vacuum out the brain matter as the tiny arms silently flap around, and then throw the corpse into the trash, then the make-up of congress may not be of much importance to you when the next confirmation hearing comes around. Chairman Leahy- Say no more.

Politics is a TEAM SPORT, ladies and gentlemen, and one does not express one's dissatisfaction with the team's effort by aiding the opposing team.

Do not let the party of treason, greed, corruption, infanticide, demogougerey, hypocricy and judicial tyranny gain power.

It could take another forty years to get it back.

Rice isn't running ( your tagline is stupid! ) and it's way past time, for YOU to "get with the program"; not to mention actually educating yourself about politics!

If our support is so important why can't bush compromise with us and give us a wall, and tougher fines, and no felony status. He compromises with Teddy Kennedy, but he won't compromise with Tancredo?

What do you guys think of Bush resigning this summer?

Unconditional surrender? Not a good idea. It would lead to certain victory for Dems in the House and Senate.

What's the threshold for a RINO? Someone who is conservative 90% of the time? 80%? 66%?

Seems to me that someone who I agree with 66% of the time is preferable to someone I agree with 33% of the time (or less).

That concept does confound the conventional wisdom on FR, I admit.

We all have different levels of expectations for our elected officials. I personally want ONLY men/women who put AMERICA/AMERICANS FIRST, in ALL areas. Oh wow, I just described the traits of Conservatives. Imagine that. ;o)

I was a fan of Sen Brownback before his conversion. In fact he was being talked as someone going somewhere before he converted. He is and has always been a good Social conservative. Sorry we Catholics are not going anywhere in the public debate. ALso, just because some Catholics have taken a view that quite varied on this bill doesnt mean you should write us off. George Bush is largely in office because he got the Catholic mass going vote. I am sure you are going to want mine and other Catholic voices engaging in the public square on issues that we agree on in the future. By the way the Southern Baptist CHurch has come out and basically endorsed something similar to a Senate Bill in concept. So please, lets get off the Catholic bashing.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that discussing your indifference to the survival of American culture in California would bruise your little ego, and provoke you to invoking that ultimate FR putdown- "whining". lol.

"The Democrats flare up an issue they know will be controversial amongst conservatives -- the ports, immigration -- and then fan the flames to pit conservatives against one another and against the President.

I can't believe how many FReepers fall lock, stock and barrel for this obvious strategy."

Well you won't be known for your great powers of observation, that's for sure. Yeah, right, it's the Dems that are stirring us up, not the turncoat Senate Pubs, some Reps, and Prez Jorge Bush with their big spending, welfare giveaways, new as of yesterday allowing our taxpayer dollars to be given to Hamas, advocating amnesty to illegal aliens and not protecting our borders, creating a whole new Medicare program, funding Education along w/Teddy Kennedy, trying to give our ports to Arabs, etc., etc. Yup, sure is those nasty Dems stirring us up. Get the blinders off, ma'am.

The question is does Tancredo want to compromise at all. I think that might be a big assumption. I hope in the end he might show some willingness to do so.

This is NOT a presidential election cycle.

Though most people hate CONGRESS, they usually, though not always, like their Congresscritters and just keep re-electing them. Since most incumbents are NOT is trouble and since the GOP held seats are NOT in danger, staying home/voting fringe IS your FAULT and the rest of our problem, should enough of you political naifs, who throw toddler-like temper tantrums, give aid and comfort to the damned Dems.

I have a novel idea. How about the Republicans in Washington not give their base a reason to do such things.

Agreed. None of this would be happening if the GOP started governing the way people expected them to when we pulled the levers for them.

The wound is self-inflicted and yet, instead of tending to it, the geniuses in the party leadership keep picking at it...

The sad thing is our region is drifting blue due to spread of people radiating outward from Arlington and Fairfax counties and

I know how you feel about the blue. I live in Washington and have Murray, Cantwell and my Rep is Baird. The State is Dem in both Houses and the Governor. I can tell you it's no fun at all.

If the Dems take over the House or Senate it will be a disaster for the gains we've made. I know what it's like to live in a liberal, socialist state and I damn sure don't want the country going that way.

What do you guys think of Bush resigning this summer? Look, his approval rating is now down to 29%.

I have read thru many of your posts, so I will go easy on you since you are a young guy and (according to you) about to enter military service. Thank you in advance for your defense of our great nation.

But you need to learn a lot more about the world and about our enemies here at home. It's not just a game...it's life and death for our military, for the unborn.

One simple suggestion...do not base any arguement on POLLS. They are meaningless.

By the way, just what action have you taken on the matter?

Have you used your own time and money to patrol? have you written congress or senate?
