There has been a rising tide of opinion expressed these last few days on Talk Radio regarding the impulse to vote against Republicans in the upcoming congressional election in order to punish them for their whorish pandering to illegal aliens, their fiscal irresponsibility, and their general disregard of the demands of the conservative base. I have heard echoes of this on Rush Limbaugh, Mike Gallagher, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Rielly.
We should be worried about this attitude. Especially those of us who remember 1992. In George H.W. Bush's second presidential attempt, a conservative rebellion (over tax policy) and the insurgent candidacy of a purported "economic conservative" (Ross Perot), resulted in the election of the most venal, irresponsible, demogogic criminal in the history of American politics. 43% of the electorate was enough to give us eight years of Clinton.
So would sitting this one out, or voting for a Libertarian get us closer to where we want to be? Everyone realizes that a conservative temper tantrum at the polls will only serve to grant power to the Democrats. Would this "teach the Republicans a lesson"?
Perhaps. But where would we be then? We are at war. The Democrats believe the war is Bush's fault. 9-11 was an aberation. It will not happen again even if we don't listen in on Al-Qaeda's phone conversations. We will be safe if we pull out of Iraq. There will NEVER be a justification for bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. There will be no more war for oil, and yet the Caribou in ANWR will still be safe from the predations of Exxon-Mobil.
Domestically, we can expect the likes of Charles Rangle and Ron "Red" Dellums to hold the reins of power in the House of Representatives. The Bush economy will not be destroyed; things will simply become more "fair" for women and minorities.
And, of course, the great gains we are making in the corrupt, tyrannical judiciary will come to a screeching halt. If you're alright with the "right" of irresponsible young women to hire doctors to shove a metal implement into the skull of their partially born babies, and to have them crack open the skulll, vacuum out the brain matter as the tiny arms silently flap around, and then throw the corpse into the trash, then the make-up of congress may not be of much importance to you when the next confirmation hearing comes around. Chairman Leahy- Say no more.
Politics is a TEAM SPORT, ladies and gentlemen, and one does not express one's dissatisfaction with the team's effort by aiding the opposing team.
Do not let the party of treason, greed, corruption, infanticide, demogougerey, hypocricy and judicial tyranny gain power.
It could take another forty years to get it back.
"Some of the things you complain about are the results of just a few Senators. Often moderate Republicans that lets face it have moderate Districts. THe oil drilling in Alaska is a prime example."
Jeb Bradley and Charlie Bass of NH (house) both live in conservative districts but they are both RINOs. How can I vote for either of them?
What do I think of the idea?
I don't think the words are allowed on this forum.
I do NOT support Bush resigning OR being impeached. That talk should cease. Period.
The problem is that illegal immigration is a major issue for probably 20% of the population, maybe a bit more or less.
Think about one of the largest states in the country, California where the majority state delegation took a day off to support the illegals marching. If anything, that made my blood boil but what can I do sitting here in Florida about something that happens in California.
They wouldnt do that if they didnt think they had the support of their electorate.
I think anyone who wants to vote third party to do it or vote for the democrats to do it also.
The republican party has had a great record of achievement over the last 12 years. I'm proud to be in it and will be voting a straight ticket. Anyone else should go do their thing.
ok....you say IM the one not making sense? What exactly are you arguing here? You have a rep who supports your view point....fine....then vote for him. I would too. What exactly is your question then? Nobody is saying vote against repulicans who are FOR A TOUGHER BORDER. We are saying DONT VOTE for republicans who wont do anything.
I guess that you enjoy bleeding profusely, from that gaping hole in the middle of your face, where you nose is supposed to be.
No way, Bush would veto that in a heartbeat. Ahh, wait a minute. Bush did say he would sign another Assault Weapon Ban if it came to his desk. Glad we have a Republican President.
My Liberal positions?
I have NO positions on this.
I'm doing the correct thing -- ignoring the Liberal Media's constant pushing of this issue as a wedge with which to divide conservatives.
Just look at this thread for proof.
There was a huge schism over the ports issue amongst conservatives, too, until we found out CHUCK SCHUMER AND HIS CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS were guiding it.
All the Libs have left is to divide and conquer us, using the rabid media to do it.
There will be an immigration bill. But NOTHING is decided at all as yet. It's still in CONGRESS for God's sake. There will be compromises, conferences, deals, feints, goofs, outright stupidity and maybe even some brilliant thinking before ANYTHING hits the President's desk.
Like the ports issue, this is right now a strictly Liberal and Liberal Media-generated tempest to divide conservatives in time for the 2006 elections.
If we go along with this Liberal and Liberal Media-generated hooey, we're stupid enough to deserve what we get.
You must be stuck deep in NO because you haven't seen the things the Pubbies HAVE done ... tax cuts (tempered sadly with piggish spending for districts), two Constitutionally oriented Supreme Judges, fighting a war against terrorists, rearming our military and modernizing the force projection ... and if I keep going, please remember that none of these things would even come up for debate under democrap control.
The rhetoric on this immigration issue and others has anyone that happens to disagree on certain aspects labled a RHINO. I nominate that as the most overused word of the year. Sen Brownback for instance a RHINO? I think not.
No, but he IS a Catholic, just like you, and way too many Catholics are siding with the illegal aliens on the basis of what they think is moral do-goodism, even if it ends up wrecking our country. The Bishops, in particular, and of course Cardinal Mahoney, should keep their collective (and I use that socialistic word intentionally) liberal Bishops' noses out of the immigration issue, and work on fixing their own church backyard to make it less of a liberal playground infiltrated by moral degenerates such as gay priests. I'm tired of too many Catholics backing illegal immigration. Bring back the pre-Vatican II Catholics who focused on church spirituality rather than social activism.
I have to agree with you there. I'm frustrated myself with the spinelessness of the Republicans. For the majorities they enjoy, they squander away the opportunity. Still, they are the only realistic choice out there to keep Democrats at bay.
I'm going to pull the lever for my representative (Frank Wolf) this time around, but I'll be holding my nose to do it. The sad thing is our region is drifting blue due to spread of people radiating outward from Arlington and Fairfax counties and population shifts.
I think the solution really has to come down to the primaries. I'll vote for the team, but the primaries are where we the coaches can and should make substitutions on those players who aren't performing.
Yes, This is a team effort. When will the republican leadership come back to their base?
The majority of the House if not all are supporting the tough bill that the house brought up on illegal immigration.
My question was rhetorical for those who wanted to sit out the elections.
I can explain how my projections will happen under democrap controls. Can you explain your offerings?
sounds like your in denial because here is what I see that they HAVENT DONE while they control the WH, House and the Senate: Immigration, Social Security, Healthcare, not to mention the FEMA screw up by putting FEMA in the Homeleand Security department.
"I dont remember FR having this many people acting like little children because their version of what needs to be done to solve the illegal problem isnt done today or tomorrow."
You're such a good little Bushbot.
It's been happening for decades and no one starts whining until now?
Earth to you......we are in a battle for civilization against Islamic Fundamentalism. Piling on this president at this time is inexcusable. Bush did not create the immigration mess. It's been a long time coming. There's a time and place for everything, and now is not the time or the place for such juvenile nonsense.
Turning your back on Bush at this time makes you no better than the dems who are manipulating you with this wedge issue.
