Thinking of Throwing a Tantrum in November?
Shameless Vanity | 5-11-06 | Burr5

Posted on 05/11/2006 8:25:42 PM PDT by Burr5

There has been a rising tide of opinion expressed these last few days on Talk Radio regarding the impulse to vote against Republicans in the upcoming congressional election in order to punish them for their whorish pandering to illegal aliens, their fiscal irresponsibility, and their general disregard of the demands of the conservative base. I have heard echoes of this on Rush Limbaugh, Mike Gallagher, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Rielly.

We should be worried about this attitude. Especially those of us who remember 1992. In George H.W. Bush's second presidential attempt, a conservative rebellion (over tax policy) and the insurgent candidacy of a purported "economic conservative" (Ross Perot), resulted in the election of the most venal, irresponsible, demogogic criminal in the history of American politics. 43% of the electorate was enough to give us eight years of Clinton.

So would sitting this one out, or voting for a Libertarian get us closer to where we want to be? Everyone realizes that a conservative temper tantrum at the polls will only serve to grant power to the Democrats. Would this "teach the Republicans a lesson"?

Perhaps. But where would we be then? We are at war. The Democrats believe the war is Bush's fault. 9-11 was an aberation. It will not happen again even if we don't listen in on Al-Qaeda's phone conversations. We will be safe if we pull out of Iraq. There will NEVER be a justification for bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. There will be no more war for oil, and yet the Caribou in ANWR will still be safe from the predations of Exxon-Mobil.

Domestically, we can expect the likes of Charles Rangle and Ron "Red" Dellums to hold the reins of power in the House of Representatives. The Bush economy will not be destroyed; things will simply become more "fair" for women and minorities.

And, of course, the great gains we are making in the corrupt, tyrannical judiciary will come to a screeching halt. If you're alright with the "right" of irresponsible young women to hire doctors to shove a metal implement into the skull of their partially born babies, and to have them crack open the skulll, vacuum out the brain matter as the tiny arms silently flap around, and then throw the corpse into the trash, then the make-up of congress may not be of much importance to you when the next confirmation hearing comes around. Chairman Leahy- Say no more.

Politics is a TEAM SPORT, ladies and gentlemen, and one does not express one's dissatisfaction with the team's effort by aiding the opposing team.

Do not let the party of treason, greed, corruption, infanticide, demogougerey, hypocricy and judicial tyranny gain power.

It could take another forty years to get it back.

Actually he just punished more companies that hired illegal aliens then Bush has.

Typical Democrat arm twisting, I'm sure it was only done to shakedown business contributions to the Democrat's slush funds.

You know why I'm going to vote for republicans, because there is a good chance that after Mexico's elections we could have a Mexican Hugo Chevez or a Fidel Castro clone running Mexico. And when that happens The democrats will be fall all over themselves to kiss the toes of the newest commie on the block.

"I can't believe how many FReepers fall lock, stock and barrel for this obvious strategy."

I can't believe your pretentiousness to think that only you, and other "Republican at any cost" posters, understand the strategy of the Democrats and are smart enough not to fall for their strategy. Admittedly your liberal positions are closer to the liberal Democrats so there could be an argument made that you understand them better. In reality, however, principled voters are what the liberals, including the liberal press, really fear. Have you noticed that the liberal MSM is not bashing the President on his "immigration" policy? Do you wonder why this is? Do you really understand their strategy? I wonder.

They have us over a barrel.

Naw. We just have to get smart and realize the Libs and their media are using this as an issue to divide conservatives. When conservatives discovered Chuck Schumer for God's sake, was behind the ports furor, it died down rather quickly. This is another Democrat attempt to stir up and divide conservatives. If it works, we're complete idiots.

Send your concerns to the GOP leadership. We aren't slaves to the party.

IF the republican majority is lost, then the large part of the Repubican house members who oppose amnesty won't have any power to defeat the Democrats and the RINO's.

Sounds to me like the last five years!

I say again....WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

We should be worried about this attitude. Especially those of us who remember 1992.

This is why we need to call our elected officials and beg them not to chase conservatives out of the Republican Party.

This is not rocket science folks. I hate to keep repeating myself but here is what the Repubs have to do to get some traction for the next cycle of elections and beyond.

1. Continue the war on Islamofacism
2. Secure the borders
3. Confirm judges
4. Cut taxes
5. Cut spending

Actually, Reagan coupled amnesty with border security. It was Ted the swimmer who gutted that portion preparing for the influx of 'immigrant voters' into the future.

We vote for our local representatives, congressperson, senator etc. My local congressperson supports the house bill on illegal immigration.

As I asked another poster here, how will me not voting for him because he supports what I want done on illegal immigration matter in the overall election. Also, the majority of the opposition party are proponents of everything that I stand against in terms of illegal immigrants, and doesnt not voting for my rep or senator send the wrong message? Just a question..:)

i think they are in a 'catch 22' where they cannot please their base and cannot please their moneymen.

Yes, and it was THEIR lust for power and money that put them there. WE are the ones getting screwed by THEIR behavior, and I REALLY resent it. We're not going to have much of a nation left to leave to our kids and grandkids, thanks to them! Did they honestly think they could get away with it forever? Evidently they did, because they're still doing it.

What do you guys think of Bush resigning this summer? Look, his approval rating is now down to 29%. Yes, Congress is a little worse at about 25%, but keep in mind Nixon was down to 25% before he resigned. Although he didn't resign because he was unpopular, but because he committed crimes...

If things keep going this way, he's going to be more than just lame duck - he won't get anything done. Both parties will unite against him (they are doing that now, though to a lesser degree). Say, maybe, elevate Condi Rice to president, and umm... hey, how about Joe Lieberman for VP??? Rice has high approval numbers, and Lieberman may be a Dem, but he isn't far-Left. Surely the country could rally behind those two. The Republicans' apparent choices for Prez and VP are rather abysmal for '08, in my opinion.

But I do support a Dem takeover of the House in November, but not the Senate. Look, the GOP needs to take a big hit, reorganize, and become more conservative. If they do that well, they could easily take back the House in '08. But, then again, this is the Republicans we are talking about here....

Yes, I know, letting the Dems take the House seems extreme. The GOP says that would be a catastrophe, and I agree. It would be very painful. Endless investigations into Bush. But I think it is necessary.

But this is also a time of war. It would be bad to have this going on. It could very well render Bush impotent. Look, it's not all purely academic for me - I plan on joining the military in July. But I think it would be very ideal to launch military action against Iran before the elections. I do not know if Congressional approval would be required, but if it is, you certainly want to do it now, and not later. Unless the good people of Iran overthrow the regime (and I mean ASAP), then military action by 2008 is almost guaranteed.

Reagan had to contend with a solid democratic majority during most of his presidency. To get his anti-Soviet things through, he had to compramise with the 'rats on many domestic issues, such as gun control and immigration.

I dont vote against something. I vote FOR something.

So do I. And I know that if I vote FOR the Dems, we'll all be in far worse trouble than we are now. That really is a no-brainer.

For all those people using the "democrats will be in power" scare tactics... my question is...what's the difference?

Specter has done more these last 3 weeks to open Bush up for impeachment than any democrat I can think of.

Perhaps, but at least one way they have to go to the back of the line, pay back taxes and fines, learn English and a myriad other requirements.

Right now I'm having a hard time telling the difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Let's see...
Won't drill for oil in Alaska
Weak on illegal aliens
Big deficits
Big government

Hmm...

It's going to be a difficult November.
