There has been a rising tide of opinion expressed these last few days on Talk Radio regarding the impulse to vote against Republicans in the upcoming congressional election in order to punish them for their whorish pandering to illegal aliens, their fiscal irresponsibility, and their general disregard of the demands of the conservative base. I have heard echoes of this on Rush Limbaugh, Mike Gallagher, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Rielly.
We should be worried about this attitude. Especially those of us who remember 1992. In George H.W. Bush's second presidential attempt, a conservative rebellion (over tax policy) and the insurgent candidacy of a purported "economic conservative" (Ross Perot), resulted in the election of the most venal, irresponsible, demogogic criminal in the history of American politics. 43% of the electorate was enough to give us eight years of Clinton.
So would sitting this one out, or voting for a Libertarian get us closer to where we want to be? Everyone realizes that a conservative temper tantrum at the polls will only serve to grant power to the Democrats. Would this "teach the Republicans a lesson"?
Perhaps. But where would we be then? We are at war. The Democrats believe the war is Bush's fault. 9-11 was an aberation. It will not happen again even if we don't listen in on Al-Qaeda's phone conversations. We will be safe if we pull out of Iraq. There will NEVER be a justification for bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. There will be no more war for oil, and yet the Caribou in ANWR will still be safe from the predations of Exxon-Mobil.
Domestically, we can expect the likes of Charles Rangle and Ron "Red" Dellums to hold the reins of power in the House of Representatives. The Bush economy will not be destroyed; things will simply become more "fair" for women and minorities.
And, of course, the great gains we are making in the corrupt, tyrannical judiciary will come to a screeching halt. If you're alright with the "right" of irresponsible young women to hire doctors to shove a metal implement into the skull of their partially born babies, and to have them crack open the skulll, vacuum out the brain matter as the tiny arms silently flap around, and then throw the corpse into the trash, then the make-up of congress may not be of much importance to you when the next confirmation hearing comes around. Chairman Leahy- Say no more.
Politics is a TEAM SPORT, ladies and gentlemen, and one does not express one's dissatisfaction with the team's effort by aiding the opposing team.
Do not let the party of treason, greed, corruption, infanticide, demogougerey, hypocricy and judicial tyranny gain power.
It could take another forty years to get it back.
Huzzah! Someone gets it!
1. McCain-Kennedy (most liberal)
2. Cornyn-Kyl (in-between)
3. Tancredo (most conservative)
Why is it president Bush has gone with the most liberal bill in his support? Illegals already here should not be given a path to citizenship without first returning to their home countries. It's amnesty, regardless of what Bush, Kennedy, McCain and Specter say.
IF the republican majority is lost, then the large part of the Repubican house members who oppose amnesty won't have any power to defeat the Democrats and the RINO's.
A party that takes my vote for granted, ISNT GETTING MY VOTE.
Good grief man, they already are in power!! You are talking about the Republicans, right? < / sarcasm >
That said, IF the Republicans have a CONSERVATIVE candidate for President, you bet I will vote for for him, but NO MORE RINOS!
"There is unrest in the forest, there is trouble with the trees..."
Bush fears media backlash. He has lost his backbone.
I agree and teams are always better when they kick the malcontents off the team. Let the malcontents go their way, vote for whatever don quiote 3rd party guy they want. We are a much better team without them much as the democrats would be a much better team without more than a few of its members.
You must ask yourself WHY this is all happening just before the 2006 election season -- why, to stir up the conservatives and have us at each other's throats. The Dems know this is an issue that divides conservatives. That's why it's getting MAXIMUM media coverage. Divide and conquer is their strategy, and it's working, sad to say. Get smart.
what have they defeated them on lately? There is a GOP white hou, house and senate and what have they done while in the majority?
Im not so sure we should continue to fight the WOT abroad with our backdoors wide open. We need to close the doors of our own nation before we start hitting others. We've already been hit. What's wrong with our leaders?
What's the threshold for a RINO? Someone who is conservative 90% of the time? 80%? 66%?
Seems to me that someone who I agree with 66% of the time is preferable to someone I agree with 33% of the time (or less).
That concept does confound the conventional wisdom on FR, I admit.
Are we talking about the dims or the gop/
scaremongering. They have no legal standing seeing as how they were in this country ILLEGALLY. And I will pay whatever the market will bear for my foodstuffs thank you. But while we're on the subject, how would you like to pay 25 bucks a month for healthcare, have money in social security for retirement, lower car insurance payments? See, it cuts both ways.
Yup! Thats right. That is why I chose to ride the border as a citizen when I lived on it.
Shame the Gov into action, but dont throw out the baby with the bathwater
I'm not in favor of "teaching a lesson" to the Republican Party. However, in 1990, Mr. Bush, pere, walked away from the supply siders in the party, and they thus felt no obligation to support him again in 1992.
As a result of the debacle of 1992, no one has made a serious run for the Republican nomination who has not bowed to the economic conservatives in the party.
Was that "teaching a lesson"? Perhaps. It sure worked. But I'm not sure that all those folks who didn't vote for Mr. Bush who otherwise might have were trying to teach him a lesson. I just think they felt abandoned and betrayed. You can't get too surprised or worked up if your party betrays part of its base and then that part of the base doesn't vote for the party.
lol. Not to mention that it means anything you want to read into it. That's what makes a platitude so special.
Ban? Try confiscating them from your home! And you won't be allowed to smoke at home either, or several other behaviors, bt you can fill the neighborhood with degenerates fer shur.
just the immigration hijacking BS
