Thinking of Throwing a Tantrum in November?
Shameless Vanity | 5-11-06 | Burr5

Posted on 05/11/2006 8:25:42 PM PDT by Burr5

There has been a rising tide of opinion expressed these last few days on Talk Radio regarding the impulse to vote against Republicans in the upcoming congressional election in order to punish them for their whorish pandering to illegal aliens, their fiscal irresponsibility, and their general disregard of the demands of the conservative base. I have heard echoes of this on Rush Limbaugh, Mike Gallagher, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Rielly.

We should be worried about this attitude. Especially those of us who remember 1992. In George H.W. Bush's second presidential attempt, a conservative rebellion (over tax policy) and the insurgent candidacy of a purported "economic conservative" (Ross Perot), resulted in the election of the most venal, irresponsible, demogogic criminal in the history of American politics. 43% of the electorate was enough to give us eight years of Clinton.

So would sitting this one out, or voting for a Libertarian get us closer to where we want to be? Everyone realizes that a conservative temper tantrum at the polls will only serve to grant power to the Democrats. Would this "teach the Republicans a lesson"?

Perhaps. But where would we be then? We are at war. The Democrats believe the war is Bush's fault. 9-11 was an aberation. It will not happen again even if we don't listen in on Al-Qaeda's phone conversations. We will be safe if we pull out of Iraq. There will NEVER be a justification for bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. There will be no more war for oil, and yet the Caribou in ANWR will still be safe from the predations of Exxon-Mobil.

Domestically, we can expect the likes of Charles Rangle and Ron "Red" Dellums to hold the reins of power in the House of Representatives. The Bush economy will not be destroyed; things will simply become more "fair" for women and minorities.

And, of course, the great gains we are making in the corrupt, tyrannical judiciary will come to a screeching halt. If you're alright with the "right" of irresponsible young women to hire doctors to shove a metal implement into the skull of their partially born babies, and to have them crack open the skulll, vacuum out the brain matter as the tiny arms silently flap around, and then throw the corpse into the trash, then the make-up of congress may not be of much importance to you when the next confirmation hearing comes around. Chairman Leahy- Say no more.

Politics is a TEAM SPORT, ladies and gentlemen, and one does not express one's dissatisfaction with the team's effort by aiding the opposing team.

Do not let the party of treason, greed, corruption, infanticide, demogougerey, hypocricy and judicial tyranny gain power.

It could take another forty years to get it back.

Your right of course and I have no desire to see a Speaker Pelosi or Majority Leader Reid. On the other hand I would prefer not to see a Chairman Specter or McCain.

Agreed.
We did not get in this position over the past six years, nor did the President create the illegal problems, or the oil problems. Yet he is expected to wave a magic wand over the country and make it all in the conservative image.

The article is a good one, but it doesn't go far enough. If the democrats get back into control, the voting maps will be radically different in less than two years. Felons and the Southern invaders will be voting and taxation will jump to 'embraqce the immigrants' with entitlements guaranteeing that a democrat significant majority will be voting thereafter into perpituity! Tax dollars will be allocated to fund abortion on demand, the military will be gutted and spying will again have gorelickesque walls erected everywhere, aiding and abetting al Qaeda assaults that ill have citizens begging for the democrat government to protect them from womb to grave ... and if that nightmare isn't enough, just let me know and I'll offer more.

The time for the base to win is during the primaries, not the general election. If we want a change, we have to concentrate on picking off specific RINO's in the primaries after calling the race and watching them whine and go under our wheels. Then we have to fight like heck to get the conservatives that won the primaries elected. Do this for two election cycles and the Republican base would be considered on par with the AARP and Illegal immigrants.

And don't forget being called a traitor for voting your conscience. "C'mon people, we've got to hold on to our gains! What's that? You're worried about the border? Silly rube, don't you know that if you withold your vote you're selling out your country?"

I have evaluated all the views and I think Bush's plan is the best. Thats my judgment call. However that doesn't mean at the end of the day we probally wouldn't agree on 90 percent of the other issues. I guess thats the point of this thread.

Immigration is a ridiculous thing to determine the elections on.

What US Gov in our liftimes was serious about border control?

They (either party) arent going to build a wall and they arent going to place armies on the border.

For those that want the border patrolled, get busy.
The minutemen have shown you the way.

Yes, they will.

We have rules on the books against most of the laws being broken right now. They choose not to enforce them. They may not write what Dems would write officially into legilsation, doesn't mean they don't allow the same result to occur off the record. They do.

I didnt suggest you specifically in terms of supporting their local republican congressperson. I was asking a rhetorical question regarding your voting or not wanting to vote for your congressperson. Isnt that all we have, to elect our local representatives, not the entire congress as a while.

A general comment about people wanting to stay home to "punish" the overall party when a majority of congress (at least the house) is in tune with what I believe in to stem illegal immigration, enforce laws against employers hiring illegal immigrations, some form of deportation, a possible fence does not make sense to me when the opposition party is completly against beliefs.

yeah....instead we should reward the GOP for its actions...or IN ACTIONS.

We should just bend over and grab our ankles and pretend the current crowd will do what we want...pfftt

[The Democrats flare up an issue they know will be controversial amongst conservatives -- the ports, immigration -- and then fan the flames to pit conservatives against one another and against the President. I can't believe how many FReepers fall lock, stock and barrel for this obvious strategy.]

Ditto that. Six months before EVERY federal election and the predictable stories start streaming from the media about how "The Republicans in Congress are Betraying their Base!" and the base just as predictably cries, "I'm not going to vote this November!"

So many of the stories I read about "The Republicans" are exaggerated propaganda, if not outright baloney, designed and packaged to scare the base that I don't even listen to those tools anymore. I practice what my tagline says because it's a practical way to keep REALLY irresponsible and dangerous people from achieving power.

no one is casting final judgement yet. but what is coming out of the senate, with the backing of the administration - isn't good.

show me a compromise bill that inisitially has a 2-3 year period where we get ONLY enforcement - border security, employer sanctions. then, after the 2-3 year period to assess whether those measures have been honestly implemented - then we can bring the "carrots" into play.

first the sticks, then the carrots. that's an honest bill.

So that's what it is. And here I thought that the 12 years spent since passing Prop 187 was our own effort at getting get the issue of illegal immigration on the table.
