Deal Reached to Revive Immigration Bill in Senate (Dems and RINOs unite)

WASHINGTON - Senate leaders reached a deal Thursday on reviving a broad immigration bill that could provide millions of illegal immigrants a chance to become American citizens and said they’ll try to pass it before Memorial Day.

The agreement brokered by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., and Minority Harry Reid, D-Nev., breaks a political stalemate that has lingered for weeks while immigrants and their supporters held rallies, boycotts and protests to push for action.

Key to the agreement is who will be negotiating a compromise with the House, which last December passed an enforcement-only bill that would subject the estimated 11 million to 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States to felony charges as well as deportation.

Frist said the Senate will send 14 Republicans and 12 Democrats to negotiate with the House, with seven of the Republicans and five Democrats coming from the Judiciary Committee. The remaining seven Republicans will be chosen by Frist and remaining seven Democrats chosen by Reid.

It's obvious from the fact that 7 of the Republicans will be judciary committee members that the Senate will produce a negotiating committee with a RINO/Dem majority that will argue for amnesty.

The only "hope" is with the House. And I use "hope" loosely since none of the plans being considered would truly reduce the flow of migrants.

I would note that Kennedy-McCain provides for all the wives and children of the 11 million illegals to come to the US- the only issue for me is whether that will be removed. I'm sure it won't be, though. Start learning Spanish.

I have known this would happen, but I kept hoping against hope.

To them "immigration reform" means making all illegals citizens. To the rest of us, it means sending them home, or at least blocking further invasion.

We already have laws on the books. You're right, any new law is nothing less than amnesty.

Frist and the spineless wonders in the Senate GOP sell out the rank and file again.

I guess they expect us that put them into office to bend over and take it. No sir, not me.

Their stupidity would appear to know no bounds.

Anything other than an enforcement package will ensure a significant GOP defeat in November.

Wanna bet they will hold off a vote on the Compromise bill until just after the November election?

That way, if many of them become lame ducks and get voted out, they can pass amnesty as one of their last acts.

If they get re-elected, they can do what they've been doing -- giving the middle finger to the voters.

And, if all else fails, to circumvent the voters, they will just up the number of green cards by a 10-million or so and call them guest workers.

"Frist and the spineless wonders in the Senate GOP sell out the rank and file again."

If this compromise goes through, then the GOP will have written their own obituary.

20 Million new voters in 10 years - 90 percent of them will vote Dem. This is the political equivalent of a nuclear bomb.

I don't support illegal immigration....

Democrats do

Republicans do

Conservatives don't, but we are being betrayed.

Guess I'll send my money to the minuteman from now on, they seem to be the only ones who get it.

At least one House member seems to get it (of course his district includes the State's entire border with Mexico). Representative Pearce has introduced a stand-alone border security bill that strips out the controversial provisions of HR 4437 and focuses strictly on border enforcement. But he's a relative freshman representative and may get rolled over by the likes of McCain, Kennedy, and Leahy come conference time.

His bill is found here. I already called his office and told them that border security and enforecement is my number one priority and also a priority of those I work with.

Who would have ever thought that the downfall of the United States, i.e., our Republic, would come from inside our borders. Our own elected officials are betraying us, allowing an invading force to take control of our government and ultimately jeopordizing the safety and lives of the American People without even a shot being fired.

Truly, the fall of Rome in the 21st century.

We're going to have our @sses handed to us in November. And it will be completely the fault of the panty-wearing, nutless GOP leadership.

Well done, losers!

I'm a moderate. I say if they want citizenship, let them earn it. Kinda like the CCC approach. One month of national service (for those currently here) is a fair trade. 3 weeks labor building a border fence + 1 week citizenship training. Most would jump at it, no questions asked. After the fence is done, immigration violations are felonies with mandatory minimums.

Like my idea?
